My beautiful Blythe doll has been wearing the same outfit for about two years now. It is a lovely mod look, but I think I have been remiss in clothes shopping for her. I'd like to get her some trad schoolwear, but I'm not sure it will go with her platinum blonde hair. Maybe I should buy a brown haired Blythe.

It's a huge picture, so look here to see what she looks like now. What kind of clothes do you recommend for her?

Some dolls have the best fashion sense. What are your favorite dolls? And pics of their best outfits?

I think I'd also like an Ariel mermaid doll for Christmas.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

This outfit is ideal: wintry, toggle coat, and you can't tell from the pic, but the boots are thigh-high. (My Blythe's boots are good though too, red calve-highs.)

http://www.goblinjp.com/gimage/imageblythe/ebl4skatedate.gif

But I have to buy the Skate Date Blythe to get it. (It also comes with a matching furry white mini-skirt and white sweater, along with a white hat, and skates of course.)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

My god, there's a girl at my office who looks exactly the same as that doll. The hair, the pose, the hat, the scarf, the purple eyes, the enormous head - everything. If I knew her better I'd buy her that doll. If I were to do it with our current relationship, she'd unfortunately think I was a psycho.

It's the Carrie Donovan doll!

TR, any idea where I can get doll clothes?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I've seen a lot on ebay. Note that Blythe's body is exactly the same size as Jenny (the Japanese Barbie-like doll from Takara), so she can wear her clothes too.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, check ebay. Also, maybe the current Bratz line (or whatever those big head dolls are called) has a similar body size to Blythe.

There's a cute retro toy store on E 7th st, have you been there?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I looked on ebay, but they were fugly. Maybe they'll get better stuff soon. I think that Blythe, Barbie, Jenny and Licca can all wear the same clothes, lucky girls! They do have a nice new Blythe doll, Fruit Punch, a blonde with a bob, which is cute, but I'd rather get a brunette for contrast's sake maybe.

I think I've been in that store, Howdy Doodie, maybe? The proprieters are extremely mental and like, make you line up outside if there are more than 2 visitors or something? I like Toy Tokyo on Second Ave; I'll check there and at Zakka to see if they have any new doll products.

I want this totally tartan outfit, but it is totally sold out. Can you sew something for me, TR?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you think Fruit Punch will clash with my Mondrian? Maybe they will get jealous of each other? And how can Blythe go on a skate date? There is no Takara Ken(ji).

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, never mind. The tartan outfit is very cute!

Blythe Golf Raver

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary your doll looks insane. I would kill her with hatchets and fling her from the top of a bus.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Aww, that's no way to talk about Blythe. Though I saw an Asian woman dressed in black furtively carrying a black-haired Blythe doll across the Brooklyn Bridge last weekend and I thought at first that she was enacting an evil voodoo ritual. I then realized that she merely wanted to picture Blythe against the backdrop of the bridge.

Maybe you would prefer her in a Romantic Western outfit?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

no. big-eyed dolls must die.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

But Blythe is so stylin'.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no Blythe, I just have a Barbie doll. .... But! She is a Barbie doll with red hair. She's currently dressed in alarmingly tarty purple chiffon baby doll night gown, with matching stockings and french knickers. She needs some new clothes for decencis sake.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink, that page appears to be in Swedish or another Scandanavian language.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Really? Well I just wanted the pic of that girl anyway, cos she must have been what that doll was based on.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna's Barbie sounds smashing. I don't have a Barbie, but I saw the aforemetioned Barbie Ariel doll in the Toys R Us inset of my NYT and decided I must have her, until I read that she is interactive, which I guess mean she dances or swims around? I don't think I want to put batteries in my Barbie, but now that I'm typing this out, it sounds kind of interesting, I wonder what she does? This isn't her, but looks like her.

I sent the J-people an e-mail to try to order the Girly Sports Style or as they call it Easy Going dress set for my Blythe, but I haven't heard back yet. I can't believe I've let her languish in the same clothes for so long.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the mermaid princess I covet, but she doesn't dance or swim, just talks I think, that might not be so bad. And how come you can see her feet peaking out under her tail? That doesn't seem right...

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"The most beautiful doll in the world"?: Dawn

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I am hotly anticipating the Silver Snow Blythe coming out
http://www.goblinjp.com/gimage/imageblythe/silversnowtop.jpg

It's all about the earmuffs.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 17 October 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a good choice. I wonder if her hair will be silver?
I am thinking of passing on the Love 'N Lace replica doll. Historical though it is, I think I prefer Takara's new fashions more.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the main reasons I like Blythe is because of her new clothes. Franz and I have been spending most of the night doing Blythe doll imitations.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 17 October 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder what Blythe imitations look like. Oo, Carey, if you get a Blythe doll we can both get the Blythe psychadelic carrying case on offer at Toys Tokyo and have sleep-overs with our Blythes and take them on photo shoots and stuff.

Dawn heads

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey and I may attend future get-togethers with these in tow.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Blythe imitation = standing in cool clothes, trying to make our bodies look as small as possible while bugging out our eyes.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 17 October 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

You could start doing loads of speed and coke, that will help.

(I'm just teasing, you know I love the dolls!)

Ally-zay, Friday, 17 October 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally's just bitter because Dawn has the silver boots and she doesn't.

That sounds like a great imitation. Maybe I should be Blythe for Haloween, but it's hard to make your body a lot smaller without your head shrinking too, and that would be counterproductive for the Blythe look.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a Dawn doll last year, they started making them again. Her arm fell off quite soon after I bought her.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 17 October 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a bummer, could you replace it?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread is creeping me out.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I just sorta stuck the arm back in the arm socket. Maybe I should take her to the doll hospital.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 17 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I always did like Blythe and Takara Jenny, but if I added them to my island of Sanrio and San-X characters on top of my desk it would just be a twee overload.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 17 October 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

haha yes THEN it would be twee overload!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You should totally take her to the New York Doll Hospital . It's nice to know that if (god forbid) anything should happen to my Blythe, there is a place to take her. They fix teddy bears too; G. should get a job there. I'm more worried about Blythe's hair though; right now it is thick and luscious, but what if it should get flat? I guess I could get a wig...

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

ARGH!! The horror! DOll parts!

You need to puff out your cheeks to look more Blythe-like.

I like the pic Mary posted with the little gun.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Another interesting-seeming place: "Doll and Toy Museum of New York. Looks like we missed the Teddy Bear exhibit though.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hanging out at the Doll Hospital .

Blythe dressed as Ginger Spice! Though I do wonder why they didn't used a red-haired Blythe for this picture.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

don't blythe dolls sell for about 2000.00 new?? or is there a new line of them? or is everyone on this thread loaded?
i bougha and sold one on ebay a few years back and basically lived off of the profit for a summer.

half jack, Friday, 17 October 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure what currency you're using, but Takara Japan has a replica line, which is cheaper than buying the original Blythes off of ebay. Also, FAO Schwarz replicates some of the Takara dolls, or just distributes them, I'm not sure, bringing the price down further.

"Jenny is a popular girl. To date she has over 30 friends and 5 boyfriends."

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a big round head with puffy cheeks, so I am partially there.

We finally saw Blythe in the flesh today and were freaked out by how huge her head is. But this quickly turned into pleasantly pleased. Rosie Red is on ebay but they want $450 for her. Argh!

Carey (Carey), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Do not pay that much for Rosie Red. Her skirt is see-through. I recommend: wait till they reissue the raven black-haired "Midieval Mood" -- tear off her ugly cape dress and fit her with customized mod clothing.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 17 October 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I am jealous that Carey might buy the Blythe that I want. So much for childhood innocence.

To distract myself from this, I will focus on Girly Sports Jenny.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Blythe is staring right at me -- my sis changed her eyes to orange for Halloween -- it is a bit disconcerting. What was Kenner thinking? I understand blue, green, and maybe pink(?), but orange?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 19 October 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I woke up this morning at 7am because my laptop was on me and was hot. I realized that I passed out last night in mid ebay bid on a Blythe!

Carey (Carey), Sunday, 26 October 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha -- which one were you bidding on? (The Goblins e-mailed me back, so I think I will have the "Easy Going" outfit after all.)

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 26 October 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Cinnamon Girl, she was cheap. But like I said, I passed out during the complicated for drunk people bidding process, so when I woke, it was on the enter your bid screen.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 27 October 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I was googling for Blythes and saw that there is a Skate Date Special Version coming out Nov 2003. Do you know what makes her special. I can't seem to find details.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 27 October 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure, but she is special, ergo you must buy her.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 27 October 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

So, I see that Rosie Red Blythe is going to be sold in the US in 04/04 in limited quantities. She even comes with the Japanese packaging. Guess who is going to pre order?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 27 October 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

But the see-through skirt...perhaps you can get a crinoline? I like her monogrammed sweater though.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 27 October 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Supposedly she has a body suit on underneath so she's not totally the fashion victim.
