Don't scornfully wag your finger at me, but he has a little matted-up hair thingy on him. How should I untangle it? Will a washing do the trick?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:20 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean "nattied-up hair thingy".

Dread natty dread, now...

Don't care what the world say / Cause we're gonna do tings our way

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

My old cat was full of those! they are nasty.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

There's an Eek-a-mouse joke just dying to break loose here.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

it's when he gets his little paws on some ganja that you should start to worry.

Nick's kitty, Lucy, has a big ol' rat in her fur on her back. She hates to be touched there. We think Pepper bit her a while ago and she wasn't able to clean it well. So occasionally we talk about maybe giving Lucy a bath, but it would also be a blood bath for us.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

you just have to rip it out. or cut it out. my cat gets them.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I would say cutting it out is better for the cat than ripping it out.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

...and swallowing it.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

...and puking it back up on your favourite rug.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not going to try to cut Lucy's out though since I think she's got a sore spot under there. Maybe I'll wait and have the vet look at her.

Speaking of kitty puke, I'm happy to say that Pepper has lost a lot of weight with her new bulimia habit.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah but sometimes its so nappy you need to get roots and all.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

euw!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My girlfriend and I just shaved our cat last night.

Well, not shaved, the clippers we bought was shit. We just made him all spiky and short-haired with scissors (not just for our amusement, he's too stupid to clean himself).

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

shaved our cat...
Where's Dan??

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Cut it off, oops!

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah that's happening
to our cat Juan Epstein, oops--
cut it off right now!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

You gotta cut it or clip it off. I got a disturbingly long haired bag of fur I call a cat and the only other way is to tease them out. Its disturbing how much dead fur is in there. And I learned a valuable lesson, cats don't like scissors.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

No more posts until we see pictures.

ModJ (ModJ), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I couldn't find any more rasta cats, but I did find some jewish dogs on this page!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, even before I started this thread I tried cutting it off. Just made it a little bit shorter before he realized what I was doing and scurried away. Gonna go give it another try now.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm praying for you, oops, in as much as I pray.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too. Also for Pepper.

"RUN, Pepper, RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!"

A Random Kitty (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The mat can actually *cause* a hurt spot, because it pulls at the skin when the kitty moves. You might try cutting *through* the mat in a few places to make it easier to remove.

I recommend the "kitty burrito" method of wrapping the kitty in a towel with only the part to be worked on exposed, to avoid painful injuries.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Good point, Layna. I'll see if Nick is up for kitty burritoing/ rat removal surgery tonight.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

POST PIX OF KITTY BURRITOS NOW!

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Well that worked out better than I expected. He wouldn't sit still for awhile but I petted him into submission. I wet the area slightly so it would stick out and stick together. Didn't meow once and the mat appears to be totally gone. I'm not gonna slack on my brushing duties from now on.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

We used to have to do kitty burritos all the time at my house, but that was to clean Schmoo's ears. He had the filthiest ears I've ever seen on anything ever.

Ally-zay, Wednesday, 15 October 2003 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the concept of being petted into submission interests me.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Cut it off! oops!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

There's no way a cat is going to have a Protestant work ethic.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, I lied, they're lapsed fuzzy Catholics.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr Chang gets these, sometimes around the, ahem, hind quarters. Yes. Shitty dreads. Its on such occasions that he gets kicked off the bed until he cleans it all off.

Tried to bathe him a year or so ago, when this last happened (is a mainly summertime occurrence, for some reason), and it was the first time i ever saw a nine kilo cat vault six or so feet in the air, over my head, out the door and off to freedom. Now i just squirt him with the hose when I'm in the garden, that seems to do the trick...
