All Along The Watchtower: Prince Goes Pamphleteering

Prince and Larry Graham, both now Jehovah's Witnesses, have taken to going round doorstepping people in the great JW tradition.

Apparently, they called on a Jewish couple in Eden Prairie, Minnesota to discuss their faith.

On Yom Kippur.

During a Minnesota Vikings game.

Good call, little fella!

This just presents me with Fargoesque images. Discuss.

You are making this up.

The world is a beautiful place

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

He is a JW, which is why he wanted to meet Zadie Smith, to talk about JW bits of White Teeth.

This scans pretty true as far as I can see. I'd imagine he'd Witnessed all of Paisley Park by now and had to take to the streets - which is part of the deal if you are JW sez my mum, who played one for 3 years - Eden Prairie is the suburb next to Chanhassen, where he lives.

If I opened my door and found Larry Graham and 0+> all like "do you know for sure what's going to happen to you in the afterlife?" I would quite literally shit myself right there on the spot.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Prince has always had a tendancy to talk about the Apocolypse.
Two thousand zero zero/ party over/ oops out of time fits in perfectly with the Witness world view.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

he could just quote his own lyrics at the door, "electric word life it means forever and that's a mighty long time, but i'm here to tell you there's something else....the afterlife"

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hi, we're from the Jehovah's Witnesses, and we sincerely want to fuck the taste out of your mouth"

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

He's now officially a loon.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"now"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, now it's official, ie I was clinging to my childhood memories of him and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. No mas.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

B-b-but he was a loon when you were a child! Have you never heard "Annie Christian" or "Ronnie Talk To Russia"?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 October 2003 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

anything that gets him outta the house has to be a good thing

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 16 October 2003 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

here is the story

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 16 October 2003 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Suzy, you've made my day---again: rock-star windbaggery always clashes with supposed JW humility. Who'd believe anyone driving door to door in his Merc (or whatever)?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 16 October 2003 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

This is an incredibly beautiful makin' my day story. If he had shown up with Diamond and Pearl instead of Larry Graham it would be the best story ever.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 16 October 2003 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my god. John Safran did this as a joke on Music Jamboree (he dressed up as Prince and went to peoples doors singing prince songs and waving Watchtower mags), and now its REAL?

I need a lie down.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i had a girlfriend in college from suburban los angeles and she told me (i may be imagining this but i'm pretty sure this is true) that michael jackson once went door to door in her neighborhood spreading the gospel for the jehovah's witnesses and that he was very shy but sincere.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't doubt it, MJ's family were (are?) Jehovah's Witnesses.
