Fundamentalism Hits New Low

In the stagnant pond called Westboro, Kansas, one of the professional Big Fish is the Rev. Fred Phelps, whose vital contribution to the Christian life of the world is the targeting of homosexuals. His latest publicity stunt to entertain and impress his deluded acolytes with his daring, is to erect a plaque in Mathew Shepherd's home town, in Wyoming, containing the inscription starting: 'Mathew Shepard entered Hell...'.

This same beacon of Christian love and forgiveness has a website something like ';God Hates Fags', and in 1998 led a picket of Barry Goldwater's funeral because Big Baz filed to cast his homosexual grandson into the street with sufficient alacrity (or indeed at all).

Goldwater was Public Enemy No 1 for anti-Vietnam War protestors in the 1960s. But none of them picketed his funeral. Can Bible-bashing US-style plumb any new depths after this?

Step 1: notice thread mentioning "Fundamentalism hit[ting] new low"
Step 2: muse to self: "What did Fred Phelps do this time?"
Step 3: open thread
Step 4: find out it was indeed Fred Phelps
Step 5: feel ill

I think that's the first WTC attack pic I've ever seen in black and white. That makes it even more disturbing.

This same beacon of Christian love and forgiveness.

Actually, the not-Reverend Fred Phelps believes that the notion of a loving God is a wrong one and explains on his FAQs. I'd find a link, but I'm not going to be going to his website at work thanks. He's vile, a distilled concentration of everything that's wrong with organized hatred.

Curse him for ruining organized hatred for the rest of us!

That's fine Eric. I deliberately didn't give his URL before because I didn't want to give him a free plug.
