Joan of Arcadia

Definitely one of the best (new) shows on tv (also see: The Handler (CBS with quality shows shockah!)).

Sharp and funny writing, though so far not so heavy on the theology, not surprising though. Kevin (aka John Ritter's son) a one not actor, however.

This show isn't as twee as I thought it would be. Watched the last 2 episodes. The theology sneaks up on you, wise approach for a Friday night audience prepping for their first hangover

I haven't seen it, but, like, God telling a teenage girl what to do? I'm just dreading the idea of episodes where she's really tested, like if she has to kill somebody or she gets locked up in an insane asylum. I'm glad to hear the show is funny, but this plot could get really dour and really absurd really fast.

gotta say this show looks terrible to me, but I haven't seen it so what do I know. do you think god'll eventually incite joan into rebelling against the occupying government? is that what they're getting at?

It's CBS, God doesn't let sparrows die, much less have anyone kill them.

I like the Tokyo butterfly effect they're playing with: God tells Joan "hey, walk back and forth with this pane of glass, and stop asking me why," and by episode's end, Wayne and Garth have made it pay off. CBS seems to like shows that rely on gimmicks like that, little things that dictate the episode structure -- like Early Edition -- and it would get tiresome if I watched a lot of similar shows. But I don't, so I'm cool with this; and the girl playing Joan is pretty good -- I'm sure I recognize her from something, but I have no idea what.

(And no, the only parallel to Joan of Arc, really, is the "messengers of God communicating with young girl" thing. The means and motive are entirely different, along with everything else.)

dammit! I wanted to see her riding into battle!

(don't tell momus)

Yeah, I originally turned the show on because I thought it would be more ... well, somewhere in the back of my head I was imagining Baz's Romeo and Juliet, only with a crazy chick and the French, pretty much. In the suburbs :)

Still, it's the first Friday night non-sitcom I've watched much since ... X-Files, I guess?

It's one of those shows that, if it stays, will really benefit from the confidence/freedom of a steady audience.

"Don't Tell Momus!" should be the name of my new celebrity gossip column!

(xp with myself)

It should be the name of a celebrity gossip column that's actually movie reviews!

Don't Tell Momus, but it's come to this columnist's attention that a certain Balding But Still Sexy New York City Cop crashed his ex-wife's party only to find her cavorting the night away with surly Euro terrorists! Trouble for the N____ Corporation, but yippie-ki-yi-yay for the partygoers who got to see BBSSNYCC strip off his shirt and shoes and join the fun.

If her brother ever accepts living in a wheelchair he'll be left with no personality whatsoever.

one year passes...
This show sucks.

And it is also cancelled.

And I wasted many many hours to see the vaunted first season.
