i was reading that the trend in nails is something nude on the fingers and bright on the toes. or was that just the end of the summer thing? anyone have a nailpolish they love right now?

and in makeup, i saw some fantastic purple liquid eyeliner in a magazine the other day. it looked great on the grey-eyed model, don't know if it'll work with brown eyes, but i think i'm going to try.

what are you wearing?

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I am wearing an american manicure on my nails at the moment. IS it a more subtle french manicure as it doesnt look like you've dipped your fingers in tipex. I have my nails done once a fortnight, it is my one true extravagance. I have silk wraps applied to them so that the nail polish lasts & so that they dont break.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Sigh!

Just when I thought I'd cracked this "being a woman" thing and was actually able to have conversations on the Fall Fashion thread, you have to go and ruin it for me!

::cries::

kate (kate), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I'm not much for the makeup and nails either. One benefit of the mittenlets though = hide my gnarly man hands but show off my lovely nails! (I always look like I have a french manicure; why I should be genetically blessed in this way is a mystery!)

teeny (teeny), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

how about hair? are there any big fun hair trends? god I hope chunky highlights die die die; after going to a midwestern wedding I've totally had my fill.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I still love my green eyeshadow aswell!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I have, however, decided to let my nails grow for the first time in... sheesh, about 20 years? Since I don't play guitar on a regular basis, I thought I might give it a try. Perhaps I can come back to this thread, and you can all tell me what to *do* with my long nails when I have grown them.

I don't wear makeup, except onstage or on dates, and as I'm married now, I don't have to worry about the latter.

kate (kate), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i am obsessed with my new nail polish from mary quant. it's a 70s olive green, the color of the fridge in my parents' old kitchen.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have this gorgeous green nail varnish which looked gold in a certain light.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh the olive green sounds great...I have a olive drab latex top I would wear with it. I haven't worn nail polish in ages and in fact threw it all out when I last moved (it was getting gloppy anyway). I like satin silvers and sparkley silvers, and a fun unusual one was a very flat pure gray. I wear a lot of gray so that worked well.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

what about nail art?
http://www.nails-by-jess.com/images/nailartall.jpg
My lady does this, but she does it free hand, it's so amazing.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i chew my nails. Not down to the quick, mind you, but enough so that it makes fingerpicking my guitar difficult.

i've also had several toenail operations on me feets.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean practically married, right kate?

I'm practically married, or at least that's what people say, and I like to wear a little makeup sometimes. This weekend I went all out and bought myself some new mascara:
http://www.jade.de/deger/01pro/01proprd3237_goodie3238.gif

Then I threw out both my old mascaras. They were getting clumpy and ick.

Were those cosmetic toenail operations, Kingfish? :-)
I really like lip gloss and chapstick too.

As for fall fashion, I seem to think I should celebrate the season by painting my nails, but also I know they'll get screwed up in no time thanks to all my guitar playing. I'll probably go for the nude color, as I have that in several shades. And for god sakes I need to paint my stupid toenails. They are ugly as sin without polish.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I love to wear make up, definitely not for 'dates & the like' I just like it for me. James is quite the expert now! haha

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

pinkpanther, what color is the american manicure?

anything involving stripes or anything is a bit too complicated for me-- i chewed my nails till they bled until about two years ago, so i'm coming to the whole girly nail thing a little late.

i also like glitters and sparkles, they are pretty hard to mess up!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really have time for nailpolish or manicures or anything like that, keeping my nails from having broken, jagged edges is about as far as I go.

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Those disembodied fingernails are putting the fear in me, jesus christ.

Allyzay, Monday, 20 October 2003 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to get a basic manicure, french white tips sprayed on and a top coat for $5 plus tip in Toronto. I've never had it done in the UK because I can't find anywhere that charges less than £20 (and most seem to be asking £25) to have essentially the same thing done... but they call it a french manicure and throw in a few extras.

What about a cheap and cheerful option for those days where you just fancy instant gratifiction want to pamper yourself without spending too much? Hrmph.

elisabeth k, Monday, 20 October 2003 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette - it's a white tip, but not brilliant white, more of a natural white with either peach or pink covering the rest of the nail, but it's quite pale & you can see the crescent at the base of your nail.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to get a manicure with a nice pink color -- can anyone recommed? Something brighter than my traditional "ballet slippers."

Mary (Mary), Monday, 20 October 2003 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

mac is making an awesome bright pink right now called "girl about town."

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 20 October 2003 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I wear bright red. Always. Sometimes in the winter I go wild and wear a darker, deeper red though. Lauren's olive sounds nice. . . but no. Red is my trademark.

I do my fingernails every other day and toes about once a week. Never go out without my nails done. Never. Ever.

makeup: classic as well. Black liquid liner, black mascara, loose nude powder, red lipstick base with wine gloss atop, waxed brow. Lately I've been on a lavender eyeshadow kick but with a very light hand.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

God I feel like a slob now :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

tracye, my makeup takes 10 minutes or less a day. nails aren't that hard, just give yrslf enough time btw coats. i don't do any fancy airbrush or acrylicy shit. just good clean color.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 05:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh that's the thing - I know I could do better as its easy for a quick routine. I just don't. Shame really, as I have rock hard nails that grow fast and never chip or split and I never bother shaping or colouring them. Bit of a waste of good nails, that!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds cool Sam. Aww come one Trayce!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm loving my john lewis silverline pearly oyster nail varnish - they've got the best colours and they're only £1.95 a bottle.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I am wearing Vaseline on my lips and that's it. It was pitch black when the alarm went off this morning and I couldn't get up, so I didn't have time for anything else. I did pluck my eyebrows a bit though. I also haven't done my nails in about six weeks but this will change tonight because the Avon lady at work has been and I got this cool eraser pen to mop up when I've painted over onto the skin around my nail.

Somebody told me Bourgeois nail varnishes are made by the same people who make them for Chanel. I don't know if it's true, but they do last and last for ages and ages.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Mary, do you mean Bourjois? If so, it is true -- Chanel owns them.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I use bourjois mascara sometimes. At the moment i am using astor

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I did mean Bourjois. Curse my hypercorrective tendencies.

ps. I am not a Mary, I am a Lucy.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I just have shit nails and plus I bang them/chew on them all the time so getting them done was pointless. I used to but it never looked right on me and it seemed a huge waste of time and money. I do my toe nails but only if I remember to do them. Like right now they are very early-90s Guess? ads with Drew Barrymore chic (read not been done in like two weeks so they are chipped). I increasingly cannot be bothered with these things. Makeup is just a black eyeshadow used as liner right in my lash line, black mascara, some base to hide stupid ADULT ACNE, and sometimes I remember to put on my lip pencil. Oh and I have to fix up my eyebrows as they are BLONDE and do not match my current hair color. For some reason I take an exorbitant amount of time to put on these handful of things, mainly cos I am a perfectionist and put everything on like it is a work of art.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

So sorry, Madchen -- I am so tired and out of it this morning I got a little mixed up namewise.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really getting the idea into petty middle class nails. It's really too bad that was a typo.

kate (kate), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

stupid ADULT ACNE

Something I am still am annoyed with for myself as well -- "Oh, everyone grows out of it." LIES. But I really can't complain, seeing as I just have a one-pimple-at-a-time situation whereas a couple of good friends here on this board and elsewhere have had more persistent skin problems.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe it's ILX that's giving us spots!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Prob!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't have even one single zit til I was 18. At around age 21 I suddenly turned into acne monster and I can't fix it at all.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I found it helped me to take Dianette (a specific contraception pill)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The pill makes me vomit. :( I should really go to a derm and see if I've got rosacea or something. It's totally stress-related, I'm sure, but quitting my job to go lie on the beach reading is not an option!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Shame that eh teeny?! I could do with some of that.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my pimples are stress related. I certainly have more of them now! they defintely are period-related. . .
