This the thread where I crow about how fantastic the Vikings are

Could this year be the year that the Vikes go all the way? Is Randy Moss the greatest person on the face of the earth? Should Daunte Culpepper be President of the United States?

The answers to all of the questions just might be YES! (Also: MATT BIRK REPRAZENT FOR DA NERDY JOCKS YO)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 October 2003 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm more partial to the Chiefs this year, but yeah Minnesota's been a pleasant surprise.

hstencil, Monday, 20 October 2003 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

This is awesome.

The game I saw (where Chris Carter had his number retired) featured Chicago doing a clampdown on Randy Moss but basically forgetting to look after the whole rest of the team. Can anyone find the story about tokin' Randy vs. Mpls. meter maid?

Although must be said, we were shitting ourselves when Brett Favre got a case of the last-minute angries during that Green Bay game. Punctuated by me asking my mum 'why the fuck does he pronounce it FARVE? Is he...retarded?'

I've got to phone my sister and see what M!ke T!ce gossip she's got, apart from he calls my mum 'Mom'. Parent in question thinks Daunte Culpepper's hands are waaaaay too small

suzy (suzy), Monday, 20 October 2003 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, they beat a pretty ordinary Broncos team with horrendous qb'ing. Sorry Dan, but I've seen Vikes play and I've seen the Chiefs play, and I think the Chiefs are a better team. Vikes do have a better home field advantage than Arrowhead though, and that's saying something. Lepsis missing the snap count was crucial.

Daunte Culpepper could be the best ever though. Broncos actually got a lot of pursuit on him, despite all the talk about how big how big how great how big how smart the O line is for the Vikes. The thing is Culpepper is fast as hell and can throw 50 yards across his body while running. What a stud. Moss requires no comment. I am wondering if the huck and pray will get them an NFC title.

Hunter (Hunter), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sticking with my afc preseason super bowl pick, the titans, but my nfc pick ain't doing so hot -- the giants. but i'm not gonna buckle.

vikes are indeed strong (i picked them to win their division before the season! check it!), but unless they get homefield advantage, there's no way they beat some of those physical teams in the nfc (ahem... bucs!).

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You're kidding, right? The Bucs are sucking ass this year.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, since I was just reading a book on the actual Viking Vikings, I figured this would be about something else (I figured Kate had started a historical thread!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

If the Titans keep their defense healthy, considering how well McNair is playing, I think they will become the team to beat in the AFC.

The Chiefs and Colts are looking pretty good, but I think they are thin in certain positions and one or two injuries could derail them.

The Bucs are getting into the habits that Gruden's teams at Oakland had, inconsistent play and stupid penalties will be their downfall. They could still get it back together, but they are giving up a ton of yards on the ground.

The Vikings look as good as anyone and could win the NFC, they just have to avoid their bad luck that has plagued some of their best teams in the playoffs. They have one play that teams cannot defend, send Moss deep and toss it up like a jump ball in basketball. He is just too tall and can get too vertical, if the pass is somewhat on the money, it is pretty much a touchdown. It worked the same way when Cunningham had that hot season a few years back.

The Panthers look good, but with their passing game, get them down a couple of scores and they will have a hard time coming back to win.

There are a bunch of other teams that look great one week and crappy the next.

What I cannot figure out is how the Patriots are winning? Their defense has been decimated by injuries all year, they don't seem that impressive on the offense, but they have beaten the Titans and Dolphins.

earlnash, Monday, 20 October 2003 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The Bucs are sucking ass this year.

Heh heh, pride goeth...

Here's something I'd be afraid to tell Warren Sapp, but I'm glad someone did though:

"He's a fading star. He's trying to hold on. Give him some pompons. That's all he does is dance anyway." 49'ers DE Ahanotu

Hunter (Hunter), Monday, 20 October 2003 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Patriots are winning because of that pesky contract they signed with Satan.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 October 2003 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHAH NINAHS FOREVAH

Bandwagon Leee (Leee), Monday, 20 October 2003 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahanotu is a fucking fool. He's the fading star, only he was never a star to begin with!

The Bucs ain't sucking. They are still the team to beat in the NFC. I don't think the Vikings could beat them.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

But it's proven by science, Y.

Vikes beat the 9ers beat the Bux.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You got nothing to worry about Yanc3y, and I think you may be right about Bucs vs Vikings. Contact I know says the Donkeys are working on contacting Jeff George. Mull that one over. Remember when he was good for five seconds again in MN with Moss and Carter in 99? Well, Denver ain't got Moss and Carter (Smith and Lelie are good, but they aren't that good). I hear he's highly coachable though.

Hunter (Hunter), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

psssh real vikings are way better

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeff George ripped my highschool team for six touchdowns when I was a sophmore. The guy was so much better than your usual highschool quarterback, it wasn't even fair. I got to play in that game and got knocked ten yards upfield every play.

Worse NFL Trade ever...Colts/Falcons: Chris Hinton OT (all pro), Andre Rison WR (all pro and got his house burned down by that girl in TLC) and a couple of picks for Jeff George. The only revenge is that Atlanta traded to get George back a few years later and one of the picks was used to draft Marvin Harrison.

If the Broncos are stupid enough to hire George, then Shannahan is on the road to being fired, just like every other pro (and even a college) coach that has named him quarterback.

You never know, the guy does have an absolute cannon, maybe he found religion and will turn into a goody goody or perhaps being unemployed for a few years has humbled him enough that he is willing to make it work. Nah.

earlnash, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

GODDAMMIT, COULD YOU PUT IN LIKE "WARNING: SPORT THREAD" IN THESE TITLES OR SOMETHING?!?!?!

Because I was getting all excited, thinking we could have a nice historical discussion of "What The Vikings Did For Us" and raping and pillaging and discovering the New World and all...

kate (kate), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

We have mixed feelings about ver Vikings here in England, especially in coastal areas. I think they bit the big one.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It has been proven by science that all people of Scottish descent are 30% Viking. So Vikings are at LEAST 30% cool.

kate (kate), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll roll with that (though I dunno if I like science that says you can have atavistic links with ancestors from 1000 years ago!!). Though very posh people are noticeably French.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the science in question was DNA testing, and Scottish people (on average) share at least 30% of their DNA with Vikings.

(OK, considering that human beings share 90% of the DNA with apes, it's probably a great deal more than 30%, but 30% of human characteristic DNA, rather than DNA in general...)

Vikings are cool, I saw it in that old 50s movie "The Vikings" where the Viking King had this Viking Wench pinned to a board by her plaits and threw knives at her. (This gave HSA ideas, unfortunately.)

kate (kate), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh merde, je ne veux pas croire que cela soit vrai..

Vikings are kinda cool, but they always choke in the playoffs.
Maybe they should replace the current Vikings logo with a more badass version. Worked for the Bucs and Pats.

daria g (daria g), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Gregg Allmanesque Thor-alike with big horny hat? Excuse-moi, what's not badass about that?

(no no no the event Vikes choke at is commonly known as the SUPER BOWL)

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I suppose yr right about the 70s.. but since then it's always playoffs isn't it?

As for the Viking logo, it's kind of tough but not the contemporary extreme-sports badass style that you see now... like what they did to Maryland's Terp mascot.

daria g (daria g), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The Bucs ain't sucking. They are still the team to beat in the NFC.

They've lost to the Panthers and the 49ers already.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

GODDAMMIT, COULD YOU PUT IN LIKE "WARNING: SPORT THREAD" IN THESE TITLES OR SOMETHING?!?!?!

See, I was right!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Har har, Ned, I didn't even SEE your post!

kate (kate), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It was buried in all this rugby-with-body-armor talk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

vikings make me horny. i am not kidding.

Dewey Dell (dumbmeat), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, wasn't there a post on some other thread that said that Icelanders aren't Scandanavians? How can they not be? Please advise. This is crucial to any discussion of Vikings, real or imagined.

Skottie, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

They've lost to the Panthers and the 49ers already.

So? That means nothing in the NFL! And fuck, the 49ers are three plays away (Ced Wilson's scramble, Browns 4th-and-long conversion, missed figgie) from being in first place in the NFC West!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently the argument went something like this... because Iceland fought so hard to be free of colonial rule by Denmark or somebody, they no longer want to have anything to do with Scandanavia or be called Scandinavian, despite their all being descended from Vikings interbreeding with fairies or elves or something.

Why don't we have a real Viking thread? So we can discuss, who would win in a battle of Vikings vs. Pirates? I think Vikings would have them!

kate (kate), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

A quick search and I was shocked to find that we haven't done Vikings vs Pirates.

Vikings rule they are the Purple team.

Also Vikings rule, I am at least 30% vikings.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I wasted my thread this morning on a THREAD THAT NO ONE IS GOING TO ANSWER BECAUSE I STARTED IT, GO ON, YOU ALL HATE ME, JUST ADMIT IT, JUST START A THREAD SAYING "WE HATE KATE AND WE ARE IGNORING HER THREADS" so I can't start it.

You know what? Fuck it. You all hate me anyway and you don't answer my threads anyway, so I'm starting it anyway.

Looks like Perry jinxed 'em.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 November 2003 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

*whah whah* (think mournfully cheesy trumpet-wah sound)

hstencil, Monday, 10 November 2003 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Chiefs goin' undefeated? Looks that way...
