"Friends in adversity, divided by style" -- classic or dud?

This great truth was revealed unto Jel and I the other day. Argue it, please.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

What's to argue?;> You could adore your mates and not their personal style. In times of trouble, you aren't looking at the holes in their trousers or their comfy, scuffed trainers.

(proper argument tomorrow, after I get some food and sleep)

The saying could be the byline for ILM.

Frodo is way cooler than Sam

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I have sideburns. Ned is anti-sideburn. This bothers me not.

Most wise.

CLASSIC!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, classic undoubtedly. If only because all of my friends are terribly cool and glamorous and well-dressed and stylish, and I'm not. Also mr ailsa is the diametric opposite of all of my other friends (and me), favouring the Jeremy Clarkson look of jeans, white t-shirt, white trainers and black leather jacket, and having the most MOR taste in music of anyone I have ever met. However, this matters not a bit as he is one of the nicest people on earth.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

As I said above. Seriously though, there are more pressing problems within your friendship if most of the reason you hang with someone is because they are wearing the latest fashion. Should be more about their personality/interests and what each of you bring to the table. Otherwise, it will implode after your first (second, etc.) disagreement. (Has happened to yours truly, often enough.)

see, I would never make fun of the way mr. ailsa dresses but he would always make fun of the way I do??

The secret's out: I was the dark Molly Ringwald til age 20.

i noticed - in college - that i hung out with alot of folks whom i had nothing at all in common with, except for smoking weed. this became problematic as when there was no weed things felt kinda "unnatural".

so - classic for hook-ups, dud for anything but

He thinks you wear clogs! (he still can't justify why he thinks that). I never said he made fun of you though. Did I?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I never noticed that Breakfast Club logo. That's the only thing I would ever consider getting as a tattoo!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I heard him make fun of me when he was talking to me, once.

And here, I thought you were the arbiter of style.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

To RJG:

But he was drunk. And he thinks you wear clogs. (He may be nice, but he is a fool when drunk)
