The marvy fun fab Jabootu site has been reviewing a slew of these disasters over the past couple of years. 'Orrible stuff. Current feature includes an enthusiastic appreciation of the original Jaws followed by disembowelments of the rest.

Mimic too, which was i think unfairly overlooked (by me at least) a few years back - far from perfect but the premise is totally fun, w/ a script by john sayles (also s: Alligator!!) + soderbergh.

(different category altogether really but ray harryhausen's stop-motion giant bug effects [mysterious island, first men in the moon, clash of the titans etc] are among the greatest anythings ever)
