Rice Krispie Treats!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Homemade, yeah, but I dunno about the storebought ones. The last ones I had weird this weird emulsion of peanut butter and chocolate chips or something, like they were trying to be Kudos. I'm willing to give em the benefit of the doubt in the interest of community togetherness, though.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I am totally for them, but I bet vegans aren't. They hate marshmellows.

In other news, I vote for the right foot. My left one has a blister.

xpost - homemade ONLY. Still hot and gewy and not fully formed yet.

SarahmcLusky (coco), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, you said FOOD with a D, not foot. uh huh.

SarahMcLusky (coco), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just gonna say 'F the store bought ones'.
C'mon, there so damn easy to make, buying the pre-made ones seems like an affront to all that is decent.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

MY FEET ARE STINKY

so I vote for the lasagna of B. Kinzer of Ann Arbor, MI

(why does everything say 12:00 AM?)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Makes sense for the kitchen-less, but they need to be ... different. I tried microwaving one when I lived in the dorms, and that just didn't work at all.

(I wonder if I could've just made them from scratch in the microwave. I'll bet I could've. Doh.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone broke ILX's VCR.

(Someone's made that joke by now on the Server Upgrade thread or something, haven't they? Oh well.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I vote CHEESE.

Surely everyone likes a CHEESE of some sort? Even vegans have their vegan cheeses! Yay cheese.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Too many lactose-intolerants.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Artichoke hearts?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I am so down with lasagna. If the krispie treats thing falls through I can swing my vote that-a way (cept I prefer my mom's.)

(mookie: go to settings, check OFF the time stamp, save it, go back and turn it back on, VOILA!)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Bananas?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Rice?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I tired to microwave marshmellows for smores once. ick. Turned out it was much better tasting to just use a lighter and set them on fire and blow them out.

SarahMcLusky (coco), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Stop it adam! My RK Treat proposal has not been shot down yet.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(i kiss you oops)

Does anyone not like tomatoes? Because I'll have to give you a talking to.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn straight mookie.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

er that is, I agree with you, tomatoes rock my frypan.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I only like bananas Foster & immediate variants

(And no raw tomatoes, but cooked yes.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a vegetarian but will break the rule for rice krispie treats! so they must be good. mr teeny is always bugging me to make them and I'm always telling him to quit his whining and make them himself if he wants them so bad and once he said all righteously well okay I will, just tell me how hot to set the oven.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

There's no excuse for not knowing how to make RKTs since the recipe is on the back of the cereal box AND the marshmellow bag.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't that pretty much the only reason to buy Rice Krispies? This is probably why I never make them.

(Possibly everyone is about to go, "Tep, you crazy food! Rice Krispies are the BOMB!" and it'll turn into one of those things where the cereal I taste isn't the cereal you taste because I don't put milk on it.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

mmm, rocked frypan. cooked tomatoes are...okay, i guess. RAW TOMATOES UP, Y'ALL.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps with a vinagrette would be nice, tho

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I haven't bought Rice Krispies in years and only did last week in order to make RKTs. I remember right when the RKT cereal came out and I thought it was God's special little gift to me. So played out on it now I think I'd puke after a couple bites.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Raw tomatoes just ... okay, I grew up with a huge garden, and tomatoes were a favorite of both my parents (the whole tomato-half-and-cottage-cheese thing; open-faced sandwiches with cheddar and tomato; it was the 70s and early 80s). Tomato plants have a strong, green, bitter smell to them, something about the vines -- and the taste that raw tomatoes have that cooked tomatoes don't reminds me of that smell and makes me wrinkle my nose.

Doesn't bother me in salsa, though, cause there's so much else going down.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Boo-yah! Take your tomato suggestion at EAT IT, tomatoboy!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I WILL. tomatoes and cottage cheese is weird, okay. Cheddar + Tomato sandwich = Classic. FINE. More for the rest of us, you devils.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate all cheeses

robin (robin), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry)

robin (robin), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

*cries*

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Robin, you are a fool. But I love you still.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if we could get two Consensus foods, one sweet (the established-thus-far RKT) and one savory (does anyone up in this bitch not dig hummus? I'm having some right now).

Level 3 would be Building The Consensus ILE Meal.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Freeze pops and bean burritos.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Rice Krispie Treats are pretty nasty, though.

Who hates Corn Flakes or Frosted Mini Wheats?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, we need to kill Milo :)

I'm all for bean burritos.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Do drinks count as "food" for this?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate burritos.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with Luna.

And I'll go ahead and pre-veto anything involving beans (aside from green beans). The texture is disgusting.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

What about RKT do you find nasty? The texture? The fact that it's half marshmellow and butter?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

marshmAllow

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know why that was bugging me, but it was.

Also, I just made RKT.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The taste (ie marshmallows)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I'm mellow and so are my marshes. Freak.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps, but I can spell.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate raw tomatoes.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Artichoke Hearts? Rice?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Bread?????

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Nuts?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn you, Milo.
Ice Cream!

(yes, I'm aware of your abilities. Here ya go: http://suzamusic.safeshopper.com/images/b9119l8j.jpg

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon who hates bread? Anyone that hates bread should forfeit their login to this board!!!

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm lactose-intolerant.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, right. Forgot about that whole thing.

I like bread. In fact, you might say I'm a big fan of bread. If so, you are very, very strange. Do you always go around talking about me?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops likes bread. Oops rates the Rza. Pass it on.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Pass the bone!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Bread is good, sure. It's also vague enough that even those with wheat allergies can still enjoy some sort of breadlikething.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I am allergic to wheat, too!

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm on an odwalla, soy, and oatmeal diet which I suspect is not actually all that good for me.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I like bread way too much. I can snack on a loaf of french bread like popcorn if I'm not paying attention. (thus I don't keep bread in the house)

Hate sweets, love bread. I'm a freak.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, can we make it a little more specific? Who doesn't like bagels?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Palestinians.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, that's a joke worthy of my Great-aunt.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Apples?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, that's a joke worthy of my Great-aunt.

This is the same aunt who, when overhearing my uncles and some friends talk about boxing and hearing someone say "Who's fighting?", quickly replied "The Jews and the Arabs!", and promptly fell back into her customary dream-state.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I met a girl who hardly, if ever, ate vegetables. She would eat heaps of really disgusting meat that would stink out the whole house. It is for this reason that I am convinced that we will never find a food that everyone can agree on. If we cannot agree on a simple vegetable, then what's left for this discussion?

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait a second: Oranges, anyone? Who the hell doesn't like oranges?

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Ew. oranges. Orange juice is okay in small amounts. And I love orange dreamsicle-y things. But just a plain ol' orange? No.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Apples!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

A few weeks ago I would've said 'boo! hiss!' to apples, but now I have experienced MacIntoshes and say 'Apples!'

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, I dont like apples. The skin is all chewy and blech. Im not much of a fruit person at all really - I'd much rather carrot or brocoli or pumpkin. Yes, I am a weirdo. :D

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got one: water.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Water isnt a food! :P

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

And I actually know people who dont like water, would you believe.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Too many fucking weirdos in this thread.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what I'm looking for, though. A weirdo-proof food.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

No one said no to rice did they?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:20 (twenty-one years ago)

RIce is another one that I only like with something else. I'm not going to sit down and eat a plate of plain rice. I would eat bread plain though. Especially if drunk.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

At ye olde restaurant where I worked once, I would peel dozens of apples to use in desserts and then gobble up the piles of apple peels.

A food we can all agree on: mashed potatoes, maybe?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh someone hated on mashers in the potato thread. Truth be told I'm quite ambivalent on rice krispie treats because they're too sweet and they tear my mouth up(I need to take B supplements obv).

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like mash but then I am not a proper ILXer any more so it doesn't count.

Emma, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't much like rice krispie treats myself, but I do like nice krispie treats (what one of my hippy friends calls his weedified rice krispie treats).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The answer is: chocolate.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Chocolate was on my mind at first, but I know people who aren't too keen on it. Yeah, I know, but I look past that. Yes, it's hard to do.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
the commercialisation of Christmas is one of its most enduring traditions.

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 21 December 2003 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

At last, someone has said what's been on my mind since the start of this whole pointless discussion.

Now, back to the question. No-one has said no to rice as an accompaniment to other food (Oops said that he would not like it on its own, but I think we can absorb that caveat?).

And what about salt? Is that a food? You die without it of course. what's not to like?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 21 December 2003 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my original intention was to restrict this to foods that consist of at least 2 ingredients. So, bread and rice would not qualify, but a turkey sandwich or rice and beans would.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 21 December 2003 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Chips/French/freedom fries? Garnished with your choice of whatever or we'll be here all year?

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i like almost everything on this thread. except bananas.

bread is good. so are fries.

so are these freaky candy/cookies that my aunt sent me. they're saltine crackers with caramel on the bottom and chocolate on the top. sounds gross, tastes soooo good.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 22 December 2003 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i like almost everything on this thread. except bananas.

Thank you. I knew there was at least one other person who dosen't like bananas.

Aja (aja), Monday, 22 December 2003 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

aha, another banana hater

Ed (dali), Monday, 22 December 2003 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. My mom was sooo wrong!!!

Aja (aja), Monday, 22 December 2003 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Chips, chocolate & bread.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 22 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)
