Suggest me some kickass movies to get me out of this depressive stupor.

I ruined my back mid-asskicking at Karate and as such am in horrible pain, Elliot Smith went and died and I'm forced to have really important conversations with my girlfriend over AIM and the phone as she'd been confined to America by those muppets at the Immigration Department.

So, if anyone could suggest some cool movies, preferably with a lot of fighting and asskickey, I'd be eternally grateful.

I think I'm going to go cry now.

violent movies are terrible and evil. get a copy of vice magazine and read my insightful work instead

moomus (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Er - there is this film - Kill Bill. There is quite a lot of fighting and asskickery in it.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Zoo. Lan. Der.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

CONDITION: Must revel in the shedding of blood, the suppression of evil foreigners, feature unbridled drug use and the repeated image of the Bald Eagle clutchin' Old Glory 'twixt gnarled claws.

Death Warrant

a shotgun, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen Kill Bill twice now. Might wait another few weeks before seeing it again.

It's fun to paraphrase at people though, ie. 'I've allowed you to keep your wicked life for two reasons, . Firstly, you owe me an english assignment...".

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Five syllables: Der - ek - zoo -lan - derrrr

I'd also second Kill Bill

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

'Through A Glass Darkly'
'L'Eclisse'

Dobermann.

One of the coolest, most brutal action flicks made in the Old Continent. There's no Bald Eagle, but there's bloodshed and drug use aplenty, and lot's of evil Frenchmen too, which is understandable since it's a French film. I must warn you, however, that the bad guys int this film are the cops and the good guys the crooks, so if you like your action with a large dose of traditional values, I wouldn't recommend seeing Dobermann.

Sounds like the Godfathers I and II, though the drug business is kept away from children and fostered in the colored neighborhoods.

There's 'Enter The Dragon' at the video store that is looking MIGHTY tasty.

This is a long shot, but does anybody know any video stores in Melbourne with a kickass selection of martial arts films?

I think I have whiplash and all the children call my cripple. I will school them all in the art of pain.

'The Blood of Heroes':
Joan Chen, Rutger Hauer,
Vincent P. D'Onofrio

play dog-skull rugby
post-apocalyptically--
but will they triumph?

(this is a real film)

My 'comfort movies':

Dazed and Confused
Office Space
Tank Girl
Wonder Boys

Tarantino's next film, Inglorious Bastards is supposed to be a bit of a Kelly's Heroes homage.

Coup de torchon

Girolamo Savonarola, Friday, 24 October 2003 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Blood of Heroes is an all time goddamn classic! Post-apocalypse, futuristic sport with obviously complex, well defined rules of which we are largely ignorant, a rousing TOURNAMENT and...what, you want more? RUTGERfreakingHAUER.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 24 October 2003 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

before I can help you, I need to know if it's really a stupor you're in or more of a torpor.

Skottie, Friday, 24 October 2003 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeremy Irons totally hams it up in Reversal of Fortune, for which he won an Oscar. Worth renting for his performance alone/only.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

torpor, my friend.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, let me see then...

One weekend long ago when I was in a torpor, I watched back-to-back videos of Pink Flamings, Desperate Living, and Female Troubles, a classic John Waters marathon. I felt as though I had been prison raped. I ran outside rejoicing, "I'm alive, I'm alive, and hundreds of miles from Baltimore!" Not that I necessarily recommend such a drastic measure. But as it's a torpor you're in, and not a stupor, I'd say give it a twirl.

Skottie, Friday, 24 October 2003 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Flamings = Flamingos, obv., but still, an interesting typo...

Skottie, Friday, 24 October 2003 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds like a great triple bill!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not kick-ass in the ass-kicking sense, but one film that can't not put me in a good mood = Pecker.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

My mind wanders back to Patrick Swayze films of the 80's ... Red Dawn with it's ultra-implausible teenagers vs. Russians storyline and ultra-bleak outlook, Next Of Kin with some great supporting performances (Liam Neeson, Helen Hunt, many others) and the crowned king of idiot action movies Road House. And there's always Point Break ...

You've probably seen all these 52 times each ...

I just saw the "Alien" director's cut. I'd, gulp, never seen the original, and am always leery of d.c.'s. But, wow, good movie. Nice suspense, nice handling of the actors. I guess the first thing the alien ate was Sigourney's butt.

Skottie, Sunday, 26 October 2003 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm quite curious to see the Director's Cut. Is it radically different?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 October 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Couldn't say, since I didn't see the first version. I assume the big dance number with Madeline Kahn and Burt Reynolds was in the original?

Skottie, Sunday, 26 October 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it was pulled because RS was worried it'd be too scary for family audiences.
