Can anyone suggest a good place to sign up for beginner sewing classes in NYC?

Been looking on the internet a bit and found 'sewfastseweasy.com' - anyone tried this place? is it way overpriced?

i really appreciate the help!

have you checked local schools & colleges for their lists of adult education subjects? (that said, I am not in NY!)

that's a great idea, thanks! i've been mostly looking into community type stuff so far - ymca, stores, and such. but nothing's really seemed right yet. colleges would be a good place to look...wonder how much classes usually cost.

Try asking at fabric/sewing machine stores.

Find a bunch of interweb mentalists in your area who want to start a sewing circle! That's what I did! Admittedly I wasn't expecting anyone to do anything about it but I'm off to my second meeting on Sunday hooray! I am knitting pink stripey legwarmers. FEAR.

oh wow, i'd love to learn and work with other people. did you start a sewing circle *before* you knew how to sew? i'm assuming everyone is at different levels...?

yeah, i thought about that, but there are seriously a million stores here, i have no idea how to decide where to go..do you have a specific one you like? some of them suggest you buy a sewing machine from them and get the free beginner lessons that come with it...i was just hesitant to buy a machine without getting any outside advice beforehand.

Yeah - I'm the worst, everyone else appears to have been crafting for ages but never as a group thing. It's really good to have people who can give you comprehensible advice and recommendations. So I don't know how to do much, but we have one person who mostly does METALWORK (forges! burning! welding!), mosiac creators, beadcrafts people, hairfalls and me with my legwarmer pattern who keeps dropping the needles.

metalwork?!! awesome. i *wish* i could try something like that. i didn't realize your circle was a diverse craft circle, not just sewing. that's a good idea. (you aren't in new york, by any chance??) thanks for all your help!

London Town I'm afraid. Good luck! (I know some board regulars in NYC do a little crafting though, perhaps they might be able to help?)

Cool, thanks again!

yeah i looked at sew fast sew easy - have you taken classes there yourself?

i'm wondering if a college class might be less expensive. i have no idea though.
