I've bought me one of those Elric books. I wonder will I like it. I enjoyed the Jerry Cornelius quartet when I read it some years ago.

what do you think of this sometime Hawkwind collaborator?

"Moorcock, Moorcock, Michael Moorcock you ferverently moan"

Mark S's thread on why he hates Moorcock is one of my favourite Sinker posts ever!

There are clever parts in most of his books and often times some funny passages, but his endings are all pretty off kilter. It seems like he writes to how many pages the publisher needs and just ends things when he gets to that number, sometimes without much of a setup.

I thought his characterization of Ronald Reagan in "The Warlord of the Air" as a jerky boy scout leader was pretty funny, especially since he wrote it in 1971.

it's funny how Mark S goes on about the Corum books... I thought everyone knew they were the shit ones.

what about those 'literary' Moorcock books, like "Byzantium Endures"?

Is Mother London any good? I've had it for fifteen years and not read it. His fantasy stuff doesn't appeal.

As a writer: kinda dud.

As an editor (of New Worlds): absolutely classic.

Joshua Houk (chascarrillo), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

As a critic: shudder.

"Byzantium Endures" is great.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

surely Moorcock's association with Hawkwind must make him CLASSIC?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 23 October 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have the original artwork for the cover of "Mother London".
Never read it though. Should I?

four years pass...

I see that the local 2nd hand/remainder bookshop has at least part of a 2014 series of collected works by Moorcock in.
I'm trying to work out what to get. So am wondering what is essential.

I picked up the Oswald Bastable Nomad of Time collection over the weekend, wondering what else I need.
Will probably get the Jerry Cornelius shorter fiction set and maybe the War Between The Angels.

BUt I want to know what else is necessary before what might be a limited supply sells. Got them at about €6 a collection too which is pretty tasty.
