(shit... Berry.... sorry... mods?)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Done.

It's weird, I know I watched the show a hell of a lot at the time, but my memories of it are so vague. I don't even remember the Doobie Brothers episode!

(That aside, RIP to another part of my seventies youth. Unfun.)

Remember watching What's Happening in the (really) early 80's, and laughing so much my stomach hurt.

Still, RIP to another piece of the comedy puzzle.

FUCKING HELL. STOP DYING, PEOPLE!!

*looks around*

*realizes how stupid that sounds, looks down*

Um, ok, so people can't just stop dying. I've just gotten really, really tired of this. I too remember "What's Happening", btw, though I remember it more through reruns on BET.

this is really sad. really sad. rerun brought a lot of joy to my life as a kid ... and even as an adult.

BTW, did folks here know that, besides being Rerun, Fred Berry was one of the first break dancers? it's true -- that's what got him his entree into showbiz, and then TV, in the first place.

RIP, mr. berry.

C'mon Ned, "which Doobie you be?" The most memorable episode for me. As a 12 year old with 0 knowledge of music or culture, I still felt all kinds of cultural dissonance watching that episode. I didn't think Rog et al. would be that into bootlegging the Doobie Brothers. But I mean, how would I know? I just figured that the show couldn't afford good musical guests. In the perfect _What's Happening_ world, who would have been the musical guest for that episode?

I loved trying and failing to dance like Rerun. I played it for laughs, but I REALLY wanted to do.

He was a COMPLETELY AMAZING dancer, seeing him step on "What's Happening!!!" was probably the first time I figured out that dance could be expressive & amazing & wonderful

I loved trying and failing to dance like Rerun. I played it for laughs, but I REALLY wanted to do.

Trying was half the fun; used to wonder how much talent those moves took to do.

Dee has no one to make hilarious sarcastic wisecracks to anymore. :(

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 23 October 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of, what happened to HER? Did she continue to act?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 23 October 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)
