If it actually seems to be trying to scan the items in question (ie., the scanner actually mechanically fires up, the light goes on, and the scanner component inside starts moving) then not sure what's going on.

The thing is it has done this on a couple of occasions before, when my computer was dying out the first time. It corrected itself. I have no idea what this is about. It's been a couple days now of doing this.

If everything is moving, and the light's firing up, it may just be the driver that's messing up, especially if you say this is what was happening last time your computer was dying. You may just want to reinstall the driver for the scanner to see if that helps. Dunno if this URL will work but you can try this or just check the "support" option at www.hp.com to find the proper driver for your scanner.

It was really fucking weird how it started malfunctioning. I was trying to scan images from a book, and the first one worked perfectly. The second time...*bbzzzzzz*
