Dude, I so thought this was a Doomie thread. Of course it's you!

I'd say My Bloody Valentine, but that's already a crap film.

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Owen Wilson could be Kevin Shields!!!! he'd have to dye his hair tho

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

'Only The Strongest Will Survive' - action movie with Andy Bell and Ed Ball.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

daniel day-lewis IS guy chadwick IN "the house of love"!!!

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

ESOJ did you start this because of "Waterbomb!" (There was somre talk early doors of there being a film in which the Creation crew descended on well-known figues and pelted them with waterbombs. The soundtrack was to be "Waterbomb!" by Biff Bang Pow!)

The correct answer is "The Girl Who Runs The Beat Hotel" because when "The Happiest Girl In The World" comes in (let's make it about an hour into the movie, shall we?) it would be clear that everything was going to be great.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

::struggles to resist the urge to turn Tender Pervert into a slash film::

Phew! That was a close one there.

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

the thread was initially a drunken pisstake on another thread but i think a 24 hour party people-esque telling of the Creation story would probably be a bit of a larf

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

but what would the two big bands be? oasis and primal scream? mbv and house of love? it doesn't have quite the same resonance.

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I will make a movie about the Jasmine Minks and it will be grebt.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Vin Diesel in Indie 500 rip-roarer 'Leave Them All Behind'

The big long book about Croation remains on my shelf, but the bits I've skimmed are pretty good.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"Voyager", obv.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

starts great but the ending is well unsatisfying. oasis are the dullest group in the universe

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

er, xpost

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 23 October 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The end is worth it for the realization on how they're going to have to deal with Kevin Rowland.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, the Kevin Rowland bit in the Creation book is sooo hilarious!! Now I wish I had the book here at work so I could quote it. Ah well, I don't, so this post is obviously quite pointless.

Hanna (Hanna), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, which bit was this? the book runs together for me.

i still think the best part of the book is talking about the early years of the Jesus & Mary Chain...

The whole "Bobby Gillespie & their drummer kicking open the fire doors to let more students into an overcrowded hall" was great.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but who would play Bobbie Gillespie?

Hmmmmm, do you think James D'Arcy could manage to Scottish accent?

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

N. is made for the Pesky Gillespie role. He's even spending time in Scotland to master the brogue.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but I don't fancy N. How can he play Bobbie? That would just creep me out and be utterly wrong and I would possibly be scarred for life.

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You say that as though it's a bad thing.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

You want to destroy the most fundamental core of my sexuality?

You evil, evil man!

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim is not evil. He is munificient.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

But Bobbie G = sex. N. in my mind = anti-sex. There would be some kind of matter/anti-matter explosion in my brain and I would be rendered insensate and possibly dead.

That's evil in my book!

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

N. in my mind = anti-sex.

Hey, when did you turn into Nicolars?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey man, art's supposed to be challenging.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Art is supposed to be challenging, but it's not supposed to make you dead!

Unless you're that sculptor guy that did "Tilted Arc" or whatever that big metal thing that fell over and killed a passer-by was!

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, challenging like, "christ, how many billiard balls CAN she fit in there?"

in other news, Kazaa supplies much of my "art".

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

(I don't think that's grammatically accurate, but what are hanging participles between friends (and don't let RickyT pop in and correct me saying "actually hanging participles only involve vowels and shifting of the tongue during the verb..." or something)?)

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

that boy needs to button his shirt. it's impolite.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

who would play bobby gillespie?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Awwwww, but that's so cute.

How about The Creation Story where everyone is played by animals, to avoid lawsuits?

(All the shoegazers could be played by those Scottish Indie-Rock Cows with the massive fringes!)

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

And obv, the Kevin Shields/Bagpuss connection could be explored more thoroughly!

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haha the creation story, riverbank tales style!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

More weasels, please!

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hee hee. "Mr McGee's Wild Ride!"

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"Unless you're that sculptor guy that did "Tilted Arc" or whatever that big metal thing that fell over and killed a passer-by was!"

that was a freak occurance OK.

Richie Serra, Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a friend who looked exactly like Bobby Gillespie, he could probably play him.

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Was he buttless?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, yes.

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sign the man up.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I have seen him in about 6 years.

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

A film with "Giant Steps" as the soundtrack would be ace. Track 9 would be the suicide scene.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and a Monkey on the Moon would be a fantastic movie, Wes Anderson could direct.

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a friend who looked exactly like Bobby Gillespie, he could probably play him.

Introduce me? Please?????

HSA was telling some dumb story about how he used to get mistaken for Bobby G on the streets of Brighton all the time, until he grew a beard and cut off all his hair and this upsets me greatly.

I'm still really up for the idea of The Story Of Creation as told by animals. I'm fighting the mental picture of Alan McG as an overenthusiastic red setter bouncing around!

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

'To Here Knows When' -- lush Fifties romance
'Vanishing Point -- crap 70s road movie
'Loveless' -- pomo 80s biker flick

Enrique (Enrique), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

PaulTMA, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 12:27 (five years ago)

Is... this... real?!?!?

Branwell with an N, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 13:08 (five years ago)

yikes.

here comes the hotstamper (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 30 September 2020 17:28 (five years ago)

also fuck sake, Bremner, at least attempt a Glasgow accent

here comes the hotstamper (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 30 September 2020 17:29 (five years ago)

I fully anticipate that this will be dreadfully dire, but also kind of hope that it will at least be ~so absolutely terrible it's actually kinda good in a ridiculous camp way~?

(Waiting for the usual suspect to pop in and tell me, no, it's not ~so bad it's good~, it's just actually bad not good.)

Branwell with an N, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 17:52 (five years ago)

Oh God no.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 17:59 (five years ago)

As long as this gets My Magpie Eyes... back in print, I’m happy

beamish13, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 18:43 (five years ago)

I think the true cringeworthiness will kick in when we see who they've cast for members of Jesus & Marychain, Primal Scream, Oasis, etc. etc.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 19:18 (five years ago)

Alexander Arnold - was on skins apparently - is cast as Jim

here comes the hotstamper (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 30 September 2020 19:21 (five years ago)

As long as this gets My Magpie Eyes... back in print, I’m happy

Yeah, this. I lent my copy to someone and never got it back and now goes for stupid money.

Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 19:33 (five years ago)

Yeah, I was looking through this to see if there were any bizarro casting:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5693182/fullcredits

Their Jim is pretty but he has completely the wrong coloured eyes! (They better make him wear contacts.)

They appear to have three different Bobby Gillespies?

They've got this the wrong way around, this one should have been Boab:

Branwell with an N, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 19:36 (five years ago)

Wow.. the Noel Gallagher actor almost resembles him.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 30 September 2020 19:43 (five years ago)

Trivia

A world-wide casting call was held to cast the role of Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher.

Where, in this big old world, would they find a Liam?
