Anybody have any critical comment to make on the subtle wit and social comment in this film series? How do the various sequels compare to each other? Favorite moments? Any Bobcat Goldthwait diehards still around? What will they say about these films 50 years from now, and have we done this subject yet?

I've actually only seen two of them, I can't remember if they were parts 9, 11, infinity, whatever

The Tim Kazurinsky Film Festival!

I liked the first 4 when I was younger and certainly the first 2 still occupy a special place in my heart. I was having an argument with a friend about Police Academy 4 (Citizens On Patrol) the other day too. Did they replace Steve Guttenberg but retain the Mahonie character or was Mahonie retired when Guttenberg left? I think there was a new actor playing Mahonie. Additionally, is the TV series still going? I bet Jones still trades on his Police Academy fame regardless.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mahonie stayed, Guttenberg left iirc.

The first was very good, but Commissioner Lassard (sp?) was just a poor Leslie Nielsen copyist.

Captain Harris, on the other hand, was a genius. Specially when he hit himself with a riding crop to make a point.

I reAlly look to Gutenberg for inspiration, like I look to Bill Murray

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but Hanle y, do you have Mr Guttenbergs cheeky grin? or Mr Murray's hairline?

I see you more as a Judge Reinhold kinda guy.

chris, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pretty sure Gutt's makes it into COP - him and Sharon Stone really get it on. You all know my opinion of Mr Guttenberg and his career - but of course showing all of the Police Academy films in reverse order was the centre point of my Bad Film Festival. The later you went in the more you paid.

i reeeeeeeeeeaalllly dddooooooooooooon't knoooow whjat to sayyyyyy about bobcat

Geoff, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just checked and Guttenberg is in C.O.P. It must have been number 5 (Mission to MOscow?Assignment Miami Beach?) where the new Mahonie came in.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Search: East High School, Pueblo, Colorado, 1991 -- the actor who plays Sergeant Mauser visits my 9th grade health class on behalf of the D.A.R.E. program and tells us not to do drugs.

We all think: "You make your living by playing a character who gets a foreign object crammed inside his anus three times every film. And we're not supposed to do drugs?"

Nitsuh, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't remember a single thing from 5 and I don't think I've ever seen 7. Bobcat was the best part of 2 (that was the one where the cadets go undercover as gang members, calling themselves "The Archies", right?). Michael Winslow was so cool.

Kris, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was going to say that that axel f song is cool then I remembered its not even off this show. On revenge of the nerd they had cool synthesiser music. but DID POLICE ACADEMY HAVE COOL SYNTHESISER MUSIC OR NOT?

maryann, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it must be fun to be a "cop" cause man look at how much fun they had!

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maryann: Yes. Also, I watched the first five or so as a kid and loved. Did the later ones ever see theatrical release?

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Has anyone ever SEEN a Police Academy movie in a theater?

Kris, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup. 2 (Their First Assignment - wiv my Mum) and 4: COP wiv the hard boys at skool when they were afraid of me.

Pete, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
Mahoney was retired after Part 4.

Yay, revised two PA threads!

Part of his unique ability to Pied Piper children to better lives comes from the fact that he is as affectionately regarded by young audiences as by adults, having starred in such kids’ favorites as Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997) (V), It Takes Two (1995) and Zeus and Roxanne (1997).

Only a publicist would dream of using "Pied Piper" as a friggin' verb. Apparently Mr. Guttenberg thinks of children as small rats that need to be led away from our cities.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

or uh children

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

police academy 5 is my favorite!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't seen Police Academy 5 since my 10th birthday party, but I was so impressed by it that I'd tell people my fave Police Academy movies in order were 1, 2, 5, 4, 6, 3. 3 sucks cuz its the only one merely rehashes jokes from the previous sequels.

I always wanted to make a movie where one of the character's last name was Tackleberry. I also wanted a scene where somebody opens a door at the theme song to The Blue Oyster starts blaring out of it.

dancing, sir....mostly dancing

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Best moment? The podium scene in Part 1. (George Gaynes has been given a blow job by "Devil in Miss Jones" starlet Georgina Spelvin whilst giving a speech and afterwards saunters to the crowd: "Let's have dinner some time... and maybe a drink").

And any scene involving Bobcat Godlwait: "I used to be a real jerk, but now I'm a people guy".

Search: The first four films.

Destroy: The TV series, the comic book, the animated series and Parts 5,6 and 7 by which point Guttenberg and Bobcat had flown the roost and you were left with Bubba Smith to drive the franchise (and he had gone by Part 7 leaving "Hellboy" star Ron Perlman in a role he'd most likely want to forget).
