Funny you should ask, because I have had two telemarketers call up asking for my wife, and both asked if I was her butler. I guess it must be the accent, but still- how many people in Berkeley have butlers?

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 23 October 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"British accent" = "must be somebody's butler"

I once had a boy was enamored with me offer to be my butler. He said he would wear a tuxedo, offer tea and cucumber sandwiches to my guests and, at night, store himself neatly under the bed.

Should've taken him up on that. . .

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 23 October 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Sam, you should've totally gone for that! OMG, that would've rocked hardc-- oh wait, I'm supposed to be revealing my Anglophilic nature here. Well, you very well should have taken him up on that offer, as it would have been quite lovely to have had a butler at your beck and call.

I'm trying to remember if my grandparents had a butler. Probably. There were at some point or other a housekeeper, a maid, a cook, a gardener and, erm... someone else I can't remember, so I'm assuming it might have been a butler. I was very young and I don't really remember.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I had a butler. A robot butler would be ideal, but any sort of butler will do. They just have to work for free.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I would go with a cook before a butler. I'm continually tempted by those private chefs who come & cook you a week's worth of food to thaw & warm up during the week. Food allergies + crazy job = I live on cereal & frozen pizza. Of course then I realize said chefs cost 80 gazillion dollars a week & calculate the number of trader joes frozen pizzas that is & drop the idea.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

lyra, once my ex-husband and I used one of those services where they drop off a week's worth of food that you just warm up. This particular service was vegan. It was pretty good and actually economical. We didn't cook much anyway and it was healthier/not anymore expensive than eating out every night.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 25 October 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

vegan texans?

is that even POSSIBLE?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 26 October 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)
