would a remake of Darkstar be a good idea?

my head says no but my heart says 'sweet jesus, bring it on' (mainly just because i want to see more scenes in which men attempt to reason with rockist machines of their own devising, or are sodomized by giant beachballs)

Whatever happened to Dark Star?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

to the best of by knowledge (assuming we're talking about the 3/5 of levitation dark star) they split up, partly b/c they got lumbered with a dance/club producer for their second album at the insistence of their record company. there's a great idea. hey, we've got this great power trio kick-ass rock band, let's send them into the studio w/thee looper's flavour of the month. bic hayes was last seen playing guitar for the pet shop boys. dave francolini and er thee other one ergh, i have no idea what they are doing. these people should be playing in a band together. Dark Star is the best live band I've ever seen. Is sucks. Apparently you could scam an mp3 of their unreleased 3rd album from somewhere or other, good luck.

I believe the band Pinback are obsessed with this film.

Mandee (Jerrynipper), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

That would be putting it mildly.

i have the Warp 'Blech' tape which is littered with samples from it including the on-board female computer announcements and the whole bomb dialogue - these are the best things about the film really (so much sucks but it is still pretty funny and not just in a 'so bad it's good' way)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck the goddamn film up the ass!!

I'm sure Erasure sampled some of the bomb dialogue too. I still enjoy Dark Star, I have it on video, but it's a bit insubstantial so perhaps a meatier remake with, say, Cronenberg at the helm would be pretty cool.

End this remake madness.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Robert Redford wants to remake the Candidate. Also a good/bad idea?
