HELP! NIAGRA FALLS IN MY HOME STUDIO!!
This morning I had water(clean at least) from the upstairs apt pour down all over my humble 4track studio set up. My alesis synth pedals, 4track, tapes, guitars, everything got water on it.. The alesis the most of the downpour.
I called the landlord and the fix it guy came , the fix it guy told me that another handyman (NOT VERY HANDY) was upstairs cleaning out the apt. and flushed the toilet , the toilet was clogged, so the water came down onto my apt.
I do not have apt insurance, but since the handy man made the error can I bill my landlord for any dmage?
I have left her a message, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
(also, the handyman really should of not flushed the toilet as it was visibly clogged when I went upstairs to try and use it last month when I had the pleasure of having bees in my bathroom.)
help!
I dried off what I could and tested some of the gear before I left the house, so far so good, gotta love Boss pedals, but with the alesis I am not sure. AHHHHHHHHHH

Egads! :-( My best for getting that resolved.

Check your lease.

Dry EVERYTHING out very slowly and carefully; in most cases just leaving stuff in a cool, dry room with a breeze of some kind if you can (get a fan and a plastic sheet to lay over the stuff and make a wind-tunnel). If the water is clean a lot of electrical equipment ought to be alright once it's been thoroughly left to dry.

But yeah, check your lease, and if there's such a thing as a Citizen's Advice Bureau where you are, go there and ask.

I thought maybe you had a bunch of newlyweds in Am-Pør-n action

You probably can't sue, but fortunately, I'm happy to report that even though I've had many coffee and alcohol related spills over my 4-track, that if you dry promptly and thoroughly, usually they turn out OK.

I've even had a cat vomit on my 4-track! Track 2's slider is still sticks a little bit, but otherwise it's OK.

(This is one thing that tape-based recording devices will ALWAYS have over digital. They don't short out and destroy your music if you have little accidents.)

i am fairly sure the lease says the landlord is not resp. for water or fire damage. but this wasn't an act of god~it was their handymans' mistake.
i jsut hope some of the loops ive been working on for weeks, months, years are not lost.

xpost: its my alesis synth that worries me the most. thanks guys

it was the last few keys that took the direct hit(the leak was one stream-as if a sink was turned on)
i turned the alesis qs 7.1 (digital) over and let the water out.

my synth sitting in the morning light, being baptized.

it was not fun tyring to and decide what to save first. tapes of finished stuff, the loop station. f*cking h3ll

this is my greatest nightmare. i've got gear coming out the wazoo and live in house that was built in 1919 so I bit the bullet and got some renters insurance. Covers up to 10K (more than enough) and costs about 150 bucks a year,

I'm not too familiar with that alesis synth, but can you possibly open up the body and let all the circuitry air out? I did this after spilling approx. 1/2 gallon H2O in my Crumar synth and it worked just fine (well, as fine as it did before the spill).

thanks-i was hoping you would chime in. i have no idea how to open it but i think its not that hard. i am lucky that the keys are sort of seperate from the unit...hard to explain. the alesis is sort of old school design.
