HELP

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(I also don't have a hair dryer, if anybody's wondering)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm contemplating some very dangerous moves with a gas stove here

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

heater?

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

none of my heaters are on or really can be turned on now! HELP!!! I'm going to try the stove!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

iron the fuck out of it.

jed (jed_e_3), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

microwave. j/k.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, that was the stupidest idea I've ever had

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

people: do not ever attempt to dry a shirt with a gas stove

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd microwave it but it has metal buttons

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

cut them off.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

don't microwave wet clothes, btw.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

run around outside, carrying it as you would a battle flag.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

turn up the heater
with the shirt hung over a
convenient vent

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I would but I'm not allowed to turn on the heater. It's a big gas monstrosity from the '30s or something and we're not allowed to turn it on for another month.

(self-imposed housemate rule I cannot flout!)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm afraid the answer's going to have to be, "Let it air-dry overnight, out in the open," sweet pea. You really should get a hair dryer, btw, for these sorts of moments.

Or maybe you could have a ceiling fan running as fast as it can run and hold up the shirt as close to the fan as possible, facing possible arm cramps and neck stiffness. Unless you don't have ceiling fans either... ?

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Iron the least exposed parts (underarms etc; you might need a lot of ironing if you're wearing something on top), then put it on. Your body will dry the rest quicker than anything.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have an iron!

I realize there is no real answer to my question.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

and I cry

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh just put it on you big girl's blouse. Bit of damp never hurt anybody (actually it did ok sorry thnx).

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

my big girl's blouse? what?

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

go to a laundromat with some coinage?

kephm, Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I found a weird old blue shirt I'm gonna wear instead. thank you everyone!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

shirtless is the new black.
put it on a hanger in your car and crank the heater to 11?

kephm, Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

*snort*

"you big girl's blouse" = "you supremely huge weenie" in Britspeak.

Poor Mark. Aw. You can't go to a laundromat, then?

Edit: Ok, glad you got your clothing issues settled then. Still, though, make sure to get a hair dryer. If you can't get to a laundromat, that is.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i like how this thread has a narrative from beginning to end.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 25 October 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

goodnight

jed (jed_e_3), Saturday, 25 October 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

goodnight!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 25 October 2003 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

By the time you wake up, it will be dry!

Seriously, if your house has a small closet where the water heater goes (probably american houses only, europeans often have eco-friendly heat-as-you-go hot water heaters, or of course, in England, none at all), hang it next to the hot water heater. The room is usually very dry and warm. Shirts dry fast. Unless they're made from some kind of 1/4 inch water-hording, spongelike neoprene material. In which case, well, never mind.

Skottie, Saturday, 25 October 2003 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Put it on and have a fat man sit on you for a while.

Mail it to yourself economy rate. 4-6weeks should do it.

Wad it up and stuff it in your car exhaust and go for a ride in the country.

Just put it on and hose yourself down, then you won't notice the wet.

Tape it down on a busy highway.

Drape it over a pile of uranium rods.

Ask Custos to suck it dry for you.

sucka (sucka), Saturday, 25 October 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick S., that was the most perverted chat-up line I've ever heard in my entire life.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 25 October 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Excuse me, I'm drunk and my shirt is wet.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 26 October 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, that's what they all say.

s1utsky (slutsky), Sunday, 26 October 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

GERMANS ARE DANCING IN MY LIVING ROOM!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 26 October 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

eight years pass...

I like hanging clothes out to dry, they smell fresh, it is environmental and reminds me of my mother. However, I live in an upwardly mobile neighborhood and don't want to advertise my country roots.

I've taken to discreetly hanging jeans and t-shirts on the patio. Summer sun dries them lickety split.

Shirts...they look like crap if you wash them in the machine and then hang them out in the sun. So you have to wash them in Woolite.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Monday, 21 May 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

you have one, and it is called ilx

mh, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

*eyes open like in the last shot of avatar*

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Monday, 21 May 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

A housemate once tried to dry socks in the oven and then fell asleep on the couch. When we came in there was a strange, toasty smell. The socks didn't catch fire or anything but they kind of crumbled.

this guy's a gangsta? his real name's mittens. (Hurting 2), Monday, 21 May 2012 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

you should have crumbled them over a nice salad with some chèvre

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Monday, 21 May 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

In my immediate post-college days, I tried socks in a toaster oven. Just to see what would happen.

Shirts on a radiator is, of course, a bad idea. They get too wrinkled and might burn. Things you learn your first year away from home.

In winter I guess you could put a space heater under an indoor clothesline.

That hair dryer thing doesn't work for me! I hang stuff out to dry until winter temps set in.
