It was more fun back when I was gettin' it for free. Every morning!

one month passes...
Here's a story about the book, and also a recent interview with Larson. Looks like it will be pricey (actually around 100 pounds as it turns out.. $125US, though apparently under $100US via Amazon), but man what a gift.

he did that new yorker cover recently - has he done other things for them?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 28 November 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Gahhh! what a garish cover.

I don't think I'll bother. Larson is very hit and miss and this is, like all complete works, for the real fan. A lot of his humour I don't get. That said, a lot I appreciate from a biologist's perspective. I think the fact that he is a cartoonist with a science background (and there can't be too many of those) means he uses subjects that other cartoonists won't (and indeed in some cases can't) explore. What was that book about the worms he wrote? A full colour book with a story to it - I can't remember tht title but it was very funny and clever. My ex had a copy. The book had a serious side to it in that it played with human squeamishness and explored the double standards which we so often apply to the natural world.

as a general rule tho, I prefer condensed Larson - I always appreciate a Larson greetings card or calendar, where the man's work is filtered down to a kind of "greatest hits" I suppose. And my favourite of all (and I suspect a lot of people's)

"CAR!"

Hard to tell what the plans are - Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are effective 13 September 2019, maybe there's something to learn there (lots of text though)

When I worked in biochemistry labs in the early 90s, it seemed like 1 to 3 Far Side cartoons were an obligatory complement to the refrigerator or lab doors. I wonder if this is still true.
