Define "sussed"...

I'm trying to remember exactly what the word "sussed" means (and therefore decipher the meaning of "Club Sussed"). This is bothering me because at one time I did know the meaning. If no one can enlighten me, I will be forced to conclude that it means "huge tits".

sussed = you have done some sussing = you have searched something out.

ie. "i sussed that you were the one who killed dirk in the library with the revolver, madame douchefarben."

although it prolly has some queer-arse brit-speak meaning i'm not aware of too. ;)

Sussed sorta equals sorted, doesn't it? Dan's answer merely reflects his insane vision of the universe, in which he playfully boasts about the benefits of his married life. The bastard.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See, I thought it meant something like that but decided that was too boring. Why can't life be more like my dreams?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought "sussed" = "drunk." I'm so outta it re Brit slang.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"sussed" = having successfully lanced a cyst

dinosaur, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sussed = to have had a good sussing

Found 1 entry for sussed.

suss (shttp://cache.dictionary.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/ubreve.g ifs)
tr.v. Slang sussed, suss·ing, suss·es
  1. To infer or discover; figure out: “I think I'm good at sussing out what's going on” (Ry Cooder).
  2. To size up; study: “Suss out the designers in whom you are interested” (Lucia van der Post).

[Probably short for suspect.]

Suss of course bought into major disrepute in the UK with the Suss Laws of the seventies which allowed the police to stop and search anyone they suspected of being suspicious. In the hardwired brain of the British beat bobby of the seventies this equalled "arrest any black person". Leading to Brixton riots in early eighties.

TRAINFROWN!!!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok, so I get "sussed", but surely "sorted" doesn't mean the same thing! From context clues, I think sorted means all set, like "I'm sorted for CDs for the next month", am I right?

What's this Carsmile business? There's a T Rex song called "Carsmile Smith and the Old Ones"...

A-ha, is there now?

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, "sorted" means "set" from what I can figure out.

I take it from Tom's reaction to my interpretation of the name that "Club Sussed" was Carsmile's idea, ha ha.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanted to call it Grope Suit. I may well have been wrong, but gloriously so.

Tom, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've always thought 'sussed' to be a dead twatty word. like one i wouldn't choose to use and one that's possibly been made up. i do not know what i mean by this. however, club sussed is marvellous, the most fun i've had in oxford. lots of cheap tequila and the spaz dance.

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

do i hear someone hollerin'? So, origins of Club Sussed, well this might help. Although basically we nicked it from a nite we used to go to in cheltenham several years ago after several hours fruitless brainstorming (in the pub). to be honest i haven't really thought a lot about it, it just has a nice sound. we did toy with "don't panic" for a while, the student nite we were replacing being called "panic", however douglas adams had just died at the time, so it didn't seem appropriate. And, yes, the carsmile in carsmilesteve comes from the t-rex song.

carsmilesteve, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i thought by the early 90's "sorted" had come to mean "i am taking ectasy". ach, my friends...
