Good Comic Strips?

Are there any free online comic strips remotely as funny as
Calvin & Hobbes or The Far Side, my two favorite defunct
comics?

Tony Millionare's tale of a filthy pair of drunkards in monkey and crow form who cause demented havoc. Sometimes gets surprisingly poetic. Also a proper newspaper strip in alternative weeklies. (At this very moment there seems to be a rather poor "guest strip" drawn by someone else. Check the archive for full yuks.)

A sort of rough, punk composite of early newspaper strips such as Popeye and the like, given a more modern spin. Drawn by one of the guys who contributed to "Raw" back in the early eighties. As with Maakies, this is also a weekly newspaper strip.

Funny yet melancholy at times. Probably the best web based comic strip out there.

Site of Norwegian cartoonist, Jason. Front page features a weekly strip, with almost complete archive. Gently funny in a very offbeat way. Darth Vader and a zombie in a suit are regular characters.

Just because it's a single guy with a cat and a dog doesn't mean it's "just like Garfield," as a lot of people like to say. The cat is evil, the dog is slow, and the guy can't get a break. It's really quite entertaining if you're looking for a humorous comic strip.

So, has anyone discovered any great new comics they'd like to
share?

Get Fuzzy is pretty funny.

Boondocks is still funny on occasion.

Doonesbury is just a lost cause.

I love Get Fuzzy. It's my new favorite comic strip.

I also love Pickles, Grand Avenue, For Better or For Worse... um, a great many other comic strips. But I'm addicted to Get Fuzzy. I even got me a Get Fuzzy book, which was admittedly acquired because it was a good buy, but even if it were much cheaper but a comic strip I didn't care for, I wouldn't have gotten it.

Satchel isn't slow all the time. Sometimes he can be rather perceptive about things. Bucky is evil, but amusingly so. And Rob... well, he really can't catch a break, can he? (Though much of the time it's due to something Bucky did, obv.)

Can I get more recommendations along the rude, mean-spirited
and surreal lines of Redmeat?

And what happened to comic strips that are funny in every panel,
not just the last?

I've recently discovered Redmeat - it rules! Not least because it gives you the opportunity to write your own strip and win a prize!

I think Milkman Dan is my favourite character.

As for strips that are funny in every pane - did that ever happen, seriously?

I keep forgetting about and then rediscovering Scary Go Round. It's great, although sometimes the individual strips don't make much sense out of context.

I *heart* Get Fuzzy. I'm so glad it's gotten lots of love on this thread. Bucky Katt rocks.

Ever since my local newspaper's started running it, I've gotten a huge kick out of Bizarro. I think I've gotten off For Better or for Worse, because the Pattersons seem like an all-too-perfect family, like none of them have any character flaws or anything (and the biggest struggle any of them have had to deal with is Michael's relationship with his mother-in-law, which Deanna [yay!] also deals with). Pickles and Grand Avenue still amuse me, though I do sometimes wish Grand Avenue didn't rely so much on puns based on an overawareness of pop culture. I still *heart* Get Fuzzy too. I don't think I could ever get off Broom Hilda -- that's been one of my favorites since I was a wee little girl. Same with Sally Forth, though that may be a bit too "mainstream"-y for the ILX massive.

I still hate hate hate hate hate with every fiber of my being the comic strips Cathy and Marmaduke. Hate hate hate hate hate hate hate. Hate.

Sycophantic New Romantic (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 24 October 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, from what i've seen of Cathy it is, in stark contrast to its ilx namesake, the uncoolest thing EVAH. Not only badly drawn, but unfunny as well!
