Is anyone else just weary of this ? I know it will never go away but at times I think we have no one but ourselves to blame for making [colloquial] English such an ineloquent, crappy language!! It's almost as if we're purposely trying to make every single word sound more coarse and vulgar than it needs to...STOP

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a pretty lamenose bit of slang.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

stop-ass now-ass!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

c/ass/nutz

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

stop suffixating me with your ass

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

It's almost as if we're purposely trying to make every single word sound more coarse and vulgar
than it needs to

ALMOST?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ass

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that was an odd-nutz thing to say.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

From now on, instead of calling something "feisty" or "spunky," I'm going with "snutzy."

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

well, I'm off to eat a big-nutz sandwich on my short-nutz lunch break

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm trying to come up with a proper usage of the phrases "nutz-ass" and "ass-nutz".

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

meh does no one else agree with my antiquated notion of desiring to preserve...."class" (oh no that word ended in ass!) ??

nuts does sound better

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Since when has colloquial English had anything to do with clnutz?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ass" is far more powerful as a prefix anyway.

Cases in point:

asshole
asshat
asscrack
ass-backwards
ass-end (of the deal, of the stick, etc.)
ass pony
ass-a-9
ass wednesday
assing your hello

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

dan: since this thread!

maybe i'm just weird but half the time I ever hear the ...haha a-word i actually picture one. maybe i haven't cognitively dissociated myself from the literal meaning as much as everyone else since my family at home never spoke ANY colloquial english...any linguistic majors in here ?

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

My favorite Bible story is the one where Jesus rides into Jerusalem on his nutz.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

nutzhole
nutzhat
nutzcrack
nutz-backwards
nutz-end (of the deal, of the stick, etc.)
nutz pony
nutz-a-9
nutz wednesday
nutzing your hello

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"nutz-end of the stick" is now a staple of my argot, BTW.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

nutzing your hello is what i want to do to all these strangers i find attractive

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ass if!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, the point about not using colloquial English as your default language is an interesting one. I can definitely see the argument that the more removed you are from a language, the more "formal" it seems (largely because any academic teaching of a language will focus on the formal form).

Then again, I might be talking out of my nutz.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm, I almost wrote "fancy-ass" on an ILM thread this morning, but then changed it to "fancy" at the last minute, thank God!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah..so you see my problem when i hear things like "big- ass sandwich" etc ...THERE IS NO ESCAPE

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa there Vic, your views on analingus are YOUR BUSINESS

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor Vic, always getting the nutz-end of the stick.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm...this is quite a dilemma(ss).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan...you do remember what "stick" was a euphemism for in the man-purse thread, right?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

DUDE!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

(I just realized that a thread where everyone can only post the word 'dude' could quite possibly be the most annoying thing ever.)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude...!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If you build the thread, they will come, nickalicious. I mean, DUDE.

My boss says PANSY-ASS all the time.
For example:
"That stupid shitbag is a PANSY-ASS."

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Tell him you're going to hit him with a sexual harrassment lawsuit.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

tell him you're going to hit him in the NADS with a sexual harrassment lawsuit!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

How does he capitalize his speech like that?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, but it's annoying, isn't it?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

*thinking: "there's got to be some way to bring this thread & the He1n1 thread together..."*

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread = an embarrassment of amassed assness

(btw, cockhat rox u r all nutz)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

'Member that Sublime song where he sings something about a Punk-ass? And then that guy died? Yeah...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Reminds me, my old roommate's favorite adjective: butt-ass.
As in, "It is butt-ass cold in here!"

daria g (daria g), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

But do you see how much better it becomes if you say butt-nutz?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I just felt 10 deg. warmer by purring it through my teeth.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, please continue using "ass" as a prefix. don't be asshataz. (assgroomers work is never done).

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it to be a rather charming custom.

Punk-ass trippin but it's all right
homey's scored a key, he's gonna fly, punk-ass fly

Skottie, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop using ass as a weapon.

Pat Benatar, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Pat Benatar in unable to tell ass from weapon shokah!

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Please stop using Pat Benatar's ass as a suffix.

Skottie, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It took a while but now it's back
Back from the lab- it's in my hat
So you better run home
Get on the motherfucking phone
It's time to rock against ass, so
Pick up the motherfucking stone
Well I'm not in a hurry, no I ain't in a rush
That rock is such a gift so make it last
No I'm not in a hurry
but that ride is such a blast
I said Lord take me downtown
'cause it's a rock against ass
so you better think fast
So you better get back
I had no choice - I cut the leash
You can't control that rocky beast
So you better run home
Get on the motherfucking phone
It's time to rock against ass, so
Pick up the motherfucking stone
