Nice.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

The one of the children statues is positively disturbing; that one is my favorite.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, very!
I especially like the photo of the deer lawn ornaments.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Lovely done, JBR. The "2 Greek Heroes" sign is my fave. Now I can bypass Vegas, as I've just had the cybertour.

What did you like best about the place, JB? Oddly enough, never really thought about seeing Vegas at all...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth has a rival!

So who's Roy anyway?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe you just asked that question, Ned. Somewhere Sigfried is crying his eyes out.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh right. For some reason I was thinking Roy Rogers and I was going, "But he's been dead for years!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Those were great.

The childrens statue was my favorite, but I also liked the Tommy Lift.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that doorway-to-ruins one is rather subtle and haunting. I love the last few on-the-road ones, while peeping those for some reason Grateful Dead's "Eyes of the World" popped into my head.

And for the alien who needs to cruise:

UFO Drivers License

Like the name implies, UFO driver licenses (illegal outside of planet Earth).

That explains all those insane Cali and Florida drivers, then.

I know there's an obscene amount of food on this thread (and much of it is diet-unfriendly) (and oh god, you didn't even SEE the Weasel!) but keep in mind -- this was over the course of a week, and neither of us normally eats like that.

two years pass...
what is Henderson, NV like? a cursory search of the boards reveal it to be suburban and perhaps even staid

but, ...is it really?

-- (688), Monday, 31 July 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

Known today for its master-planned residential areas, progressive business development, new roads and transportation projects, and outstanding recreation amenities, the City of Henderson has become one of the nation’s most dynamic communities and in 2006 was named one of the top 20 cities in America by MONEY Magazine’s annual “America’s Best Places to Live”.

Translation: gated communities, big box retail, chain restaurants and a few parks for the soccer moms and dads.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

what is Henderson, NV like? a cursory search of the boards reveal it to be suburban and perhaps even staid

The first thing I think of is the rocket fuel plant that exploded there in 1988 - a HUGE explosion roughly equivalent to a 1KT airburst.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the King Of Cars show takes place there.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

My sister lives there. There are housing developments all around the Timet/Kerr-McGee factory complex. It is incredibly, mind-numbingly suburban. But, the Simpson's house is also there. Also, an Ethel M chocolate factory that gives tours with free samples. If you're into the casino thing, there are several old-school Station casinos out that way, as well as Green Valley Ranch which is a new, upscale casino/mall experience.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

I will be there this weekend.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

My uncle and aunt live there. They're not into the summers, but like it otherwise. It's essentially Las Vegas without having to deal with Vegas every second of the day (and cheaper than California, which was the key deal, since they moved from their appreciated house in Oxnard, CA, and are both about to retire anyway.)

dottie nuttie dach nach dtnt hhhhhhhh (donut), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

That's the exact situation that my parents are in, including moving from tha nard.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

Henderson is not too far from the best Thai restaurant in the US.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 31 July 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

Henderson is like any other giant sprawling suburb in the western US, except it has casino/hotels.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 07:06 (nineteen years ago)
