so as many of you know, i am uh currently between homes. the obvious choice seems to be nyc next, again, and never ever leave. but something about the obvious choice pains me. so i am entertaining other options. please make your case for alternates...here.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

whoever puts the best case forth means i move there, presumably.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Putney.

Mark C (Matt DC), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

come to sydney jess.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

christ almighty.

Charles Norwood (woody), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

baghdad

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The lovely market town of Oundle.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

where are you now?

katharine (katharine), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i fear perhaps i am not being taken seriously

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The biggest shop in Oundle is an antique rug store.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

stay there, jess.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I understand the feeling, but I fully support going to NYC. Failing that, CHICAGO BABY!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot think of
a place Jess would hate more than
Chicago, IL

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i do not like the cold. but i hate the hot more.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you have a good time in NYC last weekend? If so, NYC. Fuck the obviousness of it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Which would be worse: Chicago, IL or GARY, IN?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

what is wrong with the obvious choice though? if you think it will be best, as i do, then it shouldnt matter. i think nyc is by far the best option for you, and its only downside is financial. dont reject the obvious merely for its obviousness, sometimes the obvious is best?

other possibles: dc, austin, toronto. but these will be harder to get established in than nyc, although they will presumably be cheaper. what about jersey city, or somewhere suitable in jersey that is near nyc

longer shots, that might work out, i dont know in what way you would do these, but might be worth investigating: london, manchester, dublin, melbourne

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

dublin has chief o brien

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i may well be wrong, but i suspect at the moment you are caught between desire to throw caution to wind and say fuck it, and desire for security and normality.

other, even longer shot: leeds

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

dublin has ronan!

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah I know nothing about US cities. I'd certainly recommend a holiday to London before you make any rash choices though. And then move anywhere in the US starting up the first American Sam Smiths boozer.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

and there is zero shame in using ilx to gain foothold in new place. this is resource not available to most people when starting somewhere new

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, come to dublin, I want to mother you and save your blackened soul.

dubhlinn, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

camden. a crackhouse is yer future.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes BUT when ILX is something that is causing as much angst as it is bunny-rabbit filled joy of what I-farcially-deem-life ect, do you want to move somewhere where your life would be even MORE focused on something you don't feel so hot about?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no case for Chicago other than I love love LOVE that city.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, dan, i never knew. that's cool.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah has a point, but equally it's only a foothold and not an entire focal point, unless you want it to be.

Also, hanging with some Ilx0rs in person =! ILX.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I realise all this but ... oh what the hell I'm not going to speak for someone I don't know.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

haha oh trust me i wouldnt be moving to nyc because of ilx!!!

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i didnt mean to suggest you would! i meant that wherever you choose to move to, particularly if it is somewhere completely new where you dont know anyone (or many people), the fact that there might be someone from ilx there is surely a positive? it is certainly something that i would/will attempt to utilize anyway...

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

despite its proximity to whence you ran from, i'm obviously going to say seattle because i want to hang out with jess and need a partner in crime.. or at least mild panic on the streets. never really gets too hot, and there's, uh, much more to do than in that other place you were last, and it's not, like, as expensive as the obvious choise.. like far less expensive.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i think this thread should be some sort of serial tv series.

"Who Wants To Woo Jess To Your City?"

competitions, eating large maggots, drinking one's urine, dysfunctional and contrived social relationships, and all the stuff voyeur tv show addicts can't get enough of.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

jess you can come and sleep on my couch while i tell you of Heroin members' weddings in Sacramento, followed by dramatic readings of indie lyrics.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Petaluma?

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Weaverville.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, are you suggesting that Jess's next move should be on Laura Innes?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

go canadian. montreal. not expensive. not too hot. (gets really cold though). things to do. (there's this minor customs issue and all that stuff)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i recommend staying with gygax!. if you're lucky, he might even take you to a baseball game.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

what donut bitch said! come move to montreal!

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I think jess would like Chicago better than New York. also charltonlido is on the money.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont think jess would like that dc that much. i am asusming he wants tomove somewhere ideal, and i am assuming that part of that ideal might include shops where techno records could be bought. dc no longer has any techno shops. the one microhouse/elecro night here involves 20 people sitting around drinking beer on a sunday, everyone stayingwithin cliques. on the other hand, indie is well represented, for better and worse, and our museums are mostly free!!!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Chicago too, but I appear to be the only person I know who does.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

jess, you should read "Chicago, City on the Make" and then "Times Square Red/Times Square Blue" and then make up your mind.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess plz come to Melbourne! White people can move to Australia quite easily!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess in Melbourne would be an awesome sight.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i suggest my ass.

past that i say TX b/c that's what I'm expected to say and honestly what else would you want me to say? living in TX would promise you plenty of heat (you said you love this right?) free beer and views of my breasts. What more could a young man want? (don't answer that.)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

come to LA

we're on fire!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(crowd hisses)

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

are you back in philly, jess? if this were 2 months ago, i woulda offered you a swap ... circumstances pending, i still may at some future point.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 07:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"...not Louisiana, Paris France, New York, or Rome!!"

No arguments here!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

as always folks, i am mostly looking for a good city to crawl into a bottle and die in.

also: good pizza.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Chicago for pizza. Also popular with pizza fans is New Haven but I've never had it and the movie about their pizza had Lili Taylor *and* Julia Roberts in it so I'd say that's a negative.

Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

as always folks, i am mostly looking for a good city to crawl into a bottle and die in.

also: good pizza.

Well worcester it is then Jess.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

OH MY GOD stay away from New Haven unless you're going to Yale! Seriously, does anything unrelated to the university happen in that city?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

New Haven is the worst place in the world.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i think 'torre's nostrils, ny' might have something to say about that

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Though I could think of worse, New Haven is pretty dire.

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The engine of the Cleveland machine is fueled by cheap booze and delicious pizza pies.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

ts: new haven vs. new hope vs. new brunswick vs. neo tokyo

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyday I wonder why more people don't just pick up and move to Montreal. Buck 65 apparently just did...

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

(christ i originally read that as 'buck 65 just died')

cybele i've thought of it tons of times but my poorish french is a major stumbling block

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, i speak poorish french...

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like to live in montreal too

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

cybele is it cheaper than toronto?!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

way cheaper! everybody move here RIGHT NOW!

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The ilx commune is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

it's also lots more fun

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

slutsky, if i wasn't totally paranoid about not having french, i'd do it in a heartbeat

supposed to go back to toronto this week and i secretly couldn't be less enthused

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

s1utsky, what's Montreal coffee like?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

sierra leone

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

you can get by here on NO french if you need to

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

A commune in Montreal = bad visions of Godspeed you Black Emperor = NO NO NO < / RYL >

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I also speak terrible Franglais.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, you secretly love it. You would read from the almanac and force your followers to shave off their sideburns.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"get by" sounds pretty bottom of the barrel

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't be ridiculous. I would frogmarch the Constellation collective to the St. Lawrence and make them drown themselves.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

the coffee here is amazing! great italian and french cafés everywhere

also ned don't be mean!

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

anglo jobs?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

$5 each down at the old port

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

but no kissing

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

also ned don't be mean!

"Don't be upset. It was a MERCY killing."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

seriously though I think most people have a totally skewed view of the cst people, many (most) of whom are lovely loveable individuals

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got this bunker in southern maine. walking distance to a private beach. chop down a few trees for me for free rent.

kephm, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Convert to the cult of S1utsky,and he won't have to kill you.

Jess, you COULD move to Bali; I hear the rent is still very cheap. That, or Switzerland.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't HAVE to kill anyone

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

But you COULD.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, New Orleans. You get to hear the brass bands play, fantastic food, and booze outdoors. And stifling heat, to melt the goth kid's makeup.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Chicago for pizza. Also popular with pizza fans is New Haven

Chicago even has a "New Haven-style" pizzeria (it's very good!). So Chicago!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The Moon! Go to the Moon, Jess! I mean it's gotta be cool on the Moon! You could stand on a crater and pretend you are holding the world in your hand, and sing that song "he's got the whole world in his arms". Well, that's what I'd do.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ignignot: Some would say that the Earth is *our* moon.
Ur: *We're* the Moon!
Ignignot: But that would belittle the name of our Moon, which is the Moon.
Ur: Point is, we're at the center, not you!
Carl: No, the real point is I don't give a damn. (slams door)
Ignignot: Is your ego satisfied?
Ur: Damn no!

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

you are one crazy cracker, jel.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

im not surprised DC made the money magazine list as there are a million places here to order overpriced steaks and martinis and play power broker.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, SLC baby, party TIIIIIIIIIME.

if you want to check out the wonders of DC & Balto I'd be glad to show you why you're better off where you are, jess.

one year passes...
ironic.

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

Dj'ng is my life. I love to scratch & session with other Turntablist /scratch dj's. I'm obsessed with using the turntable as instrument.. Its my passion & my love. I love to travel & learn new cuts or shall i say bite new cuts.. hehehehe... I enjoy dancing of all sorts, whether its booty dancing to hip hop , poppin' , or rocking the footwork, i'm always down to shake & skool ya'll on the dance floor.. When not dj'ng or dancing i can usually be found at the gym.. I teach cardio kickboxing & love to work out.. Eventually someday i'll be personal training again... i'm often called wild cause i drink alot of alcohol. esp grey goose, my fav!! Im usually a good time , a bit boy crazy & unfortunately intimidating towards others.. I totally hate ignorant rednecks that give me dirty looks when i walk down the street or go get coffee with my black friends.. and I especially hate the lil fuckers on the airplane that kick the back of my chair .. and i especially hate the retarded ass people in the airport that can't work a fucken kiosk. im usually pretty nice, but if u try to argue with me the annatude comes out & ill try to stab you.. im definitely an honest Bitch... Ill tell you exactly how i feel & if I think you are dumb.. I enjoying swearing alot in public places & using lots of slang in my vocab. Im usually in a good mood & always down to have a good time, but i can get irritated easily.. i really love to walk on the beach & I love sunsets. I totally dig deep convo's & gettin on the real level.. i think thats about it.

Who I'd like to meet:

Turntablist, DJ's, Music Producers, Dancers, Positive People & HOT SOUTHERN BOYS (preferably with the hat cocked to the side & the chin strap facial hair) Please No Haters, if you have nothin nice to say then go fuck yourself.. keep your asshole comments between you & your homies.. i dont want to hear your criticism nor do i care what negative shit you have to say about me or my friends :) Im not on myspace to find the love of my life, so save your cheddar ball lines for the half naked dumb ho's... and if you dont like Hip Hop we already have nothin' in common , so dont dont waste MY time.
