my choices:

3. Houston Astros early 70s orange
2. San Diego Padres early 80s McDonalds employee brown
1. new Dallas Maverick road uniforms--shimmering oily bronze, with blue trim--kind of a cocktail waitress/hefty bag look.

dan (dan), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

70s or 80s Chisox -- WITH THE SHORTS.
80s Nuggets -- see Astros
orig. Carolina Panthers

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

those new rockets unis look nice!

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

anyhow, all time champ: old skool tb bucs with the gay pirate

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

dbacks and current broncos and titans unis

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

broncos solid blue with the orange slash - extremely ugly (I've come around to the rest of their rollerball looks)

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

about half of the current nfl unis could be on this thread

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Except of course for the Vikings! They rule.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Grant Hill-era Detroit Pistons snorting equine teal nightmare

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

the newish NFL unis are all horrible. The Jets have the best looking ones. The old Charger uniforms were the best in the history of sport.

TEAL and SEA FOAM GREEN should be banned.

The old bucs uniform is light years better than the new one.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

the new ucla nuggets unis are nice also

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the new ones! Silver 'n red, ARRRRR!

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

>>3. Houston Astros early 70s orange
2. San Diego Padres early 80s McDonalds employee brown<<

Hey, I LIKED those old Astros Fruit Stripe gum ones! (Though they were even cooler when their hats still said ".45s" on them.)

And I forget -- in the early '80s, did the Padres still look like a mustard jar? Because it was very cool when they did, I always thought.

chuck, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

giants uni with old-skool ny on the helmet looks k-k-k klassik

this whole oblique stripey thing has to end (even the classic laker unis have been tarnished!)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

those Titan uniforms look about ten sizes too small

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not really silver though - they always look dirty, even if they ain't. still, MUCH better than the old gay pirate.

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Giants going back to the NY logo was a banner day, the gray pants look sharp as well.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

MUCH better than the old gay pirate.

never

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

the astros pop sickle unis were incredibly classic - they should switch back (the phillies should switch back to their 80s style also). I kinda like the braves with the lower case 'a' and the cornstalks on the sleeves. I hated their 80s blue on blue unis (80s baseball unis bad overall generally with a few exceptions). I wish the orioles would bring back the wisenheimer cartoon oriole.

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The Browns own this thread.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of cartoons the Indians should get rid of Chief Wahoo already and go back to their old name, the Spiders!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Browns lose points for color scheme but own the NFL by not having a logo.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Steelers win by having logo on only one side.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Cleveland Spiders should have Todd Macfarlane designed logos!

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

leee otm re: steelers logo

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

1977 Trailblazers NBA Champs unis with lowercase name and up-and-down logo instead of the 45-degree bullshit they've been sporting for the last decade. So cool Run wore their jacket in the "Christmas in Hollis" video.

same era, Golden State jerseys. Rick Barry on the Topps card: white-guy pimpin' with the underhanded freethrows.

same era, Marquette hoops with the number on top and the school name on the bottom of the jersey. all time classic of classics, no competition, good night nurse.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry those were the GOOD ones

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't the Chisox unis I mentioned also have collared shirts???

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

aka THANK YOU BILL VEECK

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

bad: 1990s bucks when they couldn't decide what their colors were.
astros in their william-carlos-williams-fire-truck-poem-red. shite.
when the sf giants copied the pirates flat-hat look. poor biting.

back to good: any jersey where the town name is too long to fit so they abbreviate in a cool way: "phila" (76ers) "mpls" (lakers), new "phx" (suns, dominant orange, v.convenient that they play in Home Depot-named arena)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

How bout the 70s/80s Pittsburgh Pirates pillbox caps?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm not suggesting they were ugly, just ... how 'bout em???)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm generally in favor of the brightly colored uniforms of the 1970s and 1980s -- I object far less to colors like teal (were the Charlotte Hornets the first team to use teal, like 1988?) than to the gradual dulling toward navy and tasteful gold on, e.g., current Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers uniforms.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

gold = bronze

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

The early '70s A's uniforms were pimp as fuck (esp. when worn by REGGIE~):

On the other hand (and let us breach the hockey subject):

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 30 October 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The Padres have never had a good uniform. I always liked the Astros 70s uniforms, the colors are a bit out of hand, but it worked with the Astrodome.

The Phillies have always had ugly gear, especially those maroon pinstripe jobs they wore in the Rose/Schmidt era.

The current Oregon Ducks football uniforms are shag nasty looking and are like some Nike upgrade from the old ugly ND uniforms from the Dan Devine era.

earlnash, Thursday, 30 October 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

OH GOD The Wild jersey! URgh.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

for baseball, this is a great reference:

my personal favorites:

my personal favorites:

1977 pittsburgh pirates
1975 houston astros
1978 san diego padres

2 of which dan called the ugliest ever in USA sports history so ef him!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 30 October 2003 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Those new Suns unis are hype, "PHX" is amazing. Can't go wrong with bright orange.

New Maverics road uniforms are trash city. I want to pop Dirk in the microwave for two minutes and have him for a snack- he'll stay nice and crispy in his aluminum foil wrapper!

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 30 October 2003 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought I had seen the new Rockets logo somewhere before:

COOPERALLS!

ModJ (ModJ), Thursday, 30 October 2003 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ANY NUMBER OF OLD SKOOL VANCOUVER CANUCKS UNIS

The old LA Kings sweaters were also kind of ugly, yet classic

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 30 October 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul Lukas to thread!!

Those new Mavs road unis -- ouch. I kept trying to adjust the contrast on the TV but they were still shiny.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Thursday, 30 October 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But this is still the worst jersey in the NHL:

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Thursday, 30 October 2003 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

the phillies should switch back to their 80s style also

as usual, cinniblount is right ... earlnash, hush yo' mouth! nothing was more pimp than bake mcbride in an old school phillies uniform (well, maybe reggie in a seventies A's uniform ... )

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 30 October 2003 06:11 (twenty-two years ago)

n.b.: a 12-year old Eisbär cried like a baby when, coming home to NJ from vacation in Vermont, he realized that he left his old-school Phillies cap up there (which he'd gotten at a cap-day promo at the Vet in 1979) ... and was never able to find it again!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 30 October 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

World Series winner Florida Marlins also wins the title as worst dressed. I want to know who started the dark jersey, white pants look.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 30 October 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Bruins third jersey is so not intimidating.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 30 October 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Why no mention of those gawd awful purple and yellow LA Kings uniforms?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 30 October 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Coyotes' jersey truly is a feat of pure ugliness. It's offensive to look at.

Allyzay, Thursday, 30 October 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(xpost) but they matched the Lakers!

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Good call! The old skool Vancouver Canucks - hands down!

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 31 October 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The Mavs were wearing a more standard-looking (read: non-metallic) road uni last night, so it looks like the 'third uniform' craze has struck the NBA.

Didn't Phoenix ditch the geometric-coyote design this year? I always kinda liked it, actually. The other NHL way-too-many-colors-running-around-but-the-logo-saves-it uni is Florida.

Jeff Wright, Friday, 31 October 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

triple crown line mofoz.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 31 October 2003 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
