1. Has anyone seen the movie?
2. Is it any good?
3. How much of Luke Haines' music is used?
4. Have there been any screenings in the US?

no to all, but at least yr in the new answers.

Geoff, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't seen the film but the soundtrack is, on the whole, GRATE.

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Much agreed, Robin; I hope other directors enlist his services.

I'd like to blow up the inner sleeve photo of Luke at the typewriter and have him leer at me from the wall. The man is a constant source of inspiration.

Be glad, Andy, that I never asked to review the Auteurs or anything Luke Haines did for the AMG. ;-) "This overrated nonentity's extremely self-righteous vision of the universe has now splayed itself out over too many albums..."

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely you're not confusing Luke with Billy Corgan.

Andy, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am voice of reason here and I can exclusivelt reveal that Haines and Corgan are both shit.

Nick, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I vote for Nick's assessment. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I ate Nick's assesmnent

special guest stars mark bronson, Thursday, 29 January 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

uhhh and it ends with him blowing up a london bus with some really bad graphics.

i can't remember what happened in the book but it was better than the film.

special guest stars mark bronson, Thursday, 29 January 2009 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

I thought it was fun escapism.

Hoes Cartwright (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

samuel beckett liked the book so who cares what i think.

jed_, Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

I think I finished the book quicker than the film. Liked the book, film seemed a bit pointless.

chord simple (j.o.n.a), Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

Adored the book (but then I'm a Johnson apologist); loathed the film. Dreadful wasted opportunity. The soundtrack was good, though, wasn't it?

Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

according to jonathan coe's excellent johnson biog, beckett was a bit pissed off that johnson used his private words of encouragement for general publicity purposes - grumpy old sam

don't think it's johnson's best bk - that wld be the unfortunates, obv - but the film is indeed a terrible travesty and failure
