No one believes me that these existed, but they did. I got mine in a free offer from Look In - you sent off the tokens specifying which set you'd prefer and then they sent you back a note saying "Sorry - we're out of the space craft ones but here's nuclear weapons instead". I only remember Trident (the big daddy), Polaris and some weird shoulder-mounted bazooka thing from the Soviet Union (yes, I know)

I've looked on ebay to no avail. Does anyone else remember them? Will someone please back me up on this?

yes Nick, I had the very same set, iirc there were several large self propelled guns and a few icbms, the Trident was indeed the best though. My favourite sets were the two horror ones where you could combine them to create a huge set.

I had around 15 sets at my grandparents, the first time I came back from college for Christmas I went round to get them, only to hear "oh, I didn't think you'd want those silly things any more!"

The new top trump boxes are rubbish too, although I do have the simpsons set. and I've still got a set of British strikers (football, not trade unionists - though that would be fun, Scargill would be the daddy) from around 1987.

Top trumps are a british thing?

Coolest trading cards I've ever seen: the "history of the soviet union" set. Cards like The 5 Year Plans, Forced Collectivisation, Marx, Lenin, October 17, etc. Wonderful painterly illustrations on them too.

I cracked the reason I could never find these on eBay – they were not actually called Nuclear Weapons Top Trumps. They were called Missiles & Rockets, it's just that many of those featured were known for carrying nuclear warheads.

Their logic is that it serves to remind people about the bombs. The forums have a bit of discussion on www.brumm.it. If the proceeds were to an anti-nuclear charity or similar I would consider buying them. They look quite alright as well which is so bad to admit!

Trayce, yes they were for playing with. it's a v simple game though, you pick one of the categories eg range, then the person with the best score adds the others cards to the bottom of their pile, turns the next one over and it starts again.
