Heinz Toast Toppers - why?

While thinking around the subjects mentioned on Publog about brands of food that exist for a long time but nobody seems to enjoy, or like, or even buy... I located a tin of Heinz Toast Toppers in my cupboard last night and decided to use it. I'm not sure if these are a peculiarly British thing, or if they're available abroad, but they are tiny little tins of 'foodstuff' (for want of a better word) that can be spread onto toast and then toasted for a further two or so minutes, making what the tin calls "A tasty snack". Three varieties of flavour - mushroom and bacon, cheese and ham and chicken and mushroom. Yesterday's was mushroom and bacon and was actually not too bad.

So, the questions.

1. Does anyone actually like these things?
2. Why do they still make them? They've been around for over 20 years utterly unchanged. Is there really a demand for this product?
3. Why do they look so much like baby food?

Does anyone else have a sneaking liking for these, or am I just completely mad?

Blimey, I didn't even know those things were still made! I used to eat the pizza one when I was 10 (which is now 20 years ago!). I seem to remember it being a sort of orangey mildly-spiced-y tomato-y substance that was, yes, not unlike baby food.

Looking back on them, I know my 10-year old self was mad keen, but I don't think even nostalgia would make me try it again.
