strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

http://geocities.com/catwank/hello.jpg

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, do the images have to be gifs? is that my problem? (besides being an idiot, of course.)

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

just type "i" then paste the http://whatever.picture.jpg with no space between the "i" and the "http" thing

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it just doesn't work from Geocities. (If it's your site, change the extension to .txt and it will somehow magically work.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

CAT!!! WOULD YOU FREAKING LISTEN TO ME FOR A MOMENT?!?!?

Did I not explain about this in email and on the other thread? The problem is not with ILX, but with Geocities and Yahoo and Tripod and other free servers having mechanisms in place to block bandwidth leaking. OK?

kate (kate), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

they need to be .gifs or .jpegs. just put an i in front of the URL. no space, nada.

yeah what strongo said.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah and what kate said too.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Except with less shouting, probably. ;-)

kate (kate), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

dude. i took my idiocy away from the other thread to practice. I missed the part about Geocities. goddammmit.

Mentos, Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

is that george costanza?

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going home now. Good luck with getting bastard Geocities to work...

kate (kate), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i've given up.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

*kills self*

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

wtf, is that really jess?

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

well, jess?

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, didn't you read the Spencer Chow FAP thread? For shame and fuck!

Allyzay, Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

no, it's obviously george costanza!

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Hrm. Well, maybe it doesn't work anymore, but if you change "hello.jpg"'s name to "hello.txt", well, it used to work.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

here's how it works:

( img src="imgage here.jpg" width=200 )

only change the ( ) to < >, and size it to your taste. I try to keep most of my images under 200 wide.

like this:

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

augh

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ick. that resizing looks shitty.

maybe 50% would work:

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/spencerchow/jess.jpg

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, much better.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

no it's not!!

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Kingfish, that still is just as big a download.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, that's all well and fucking good but A) most of us know how to resize B) it doesn't change the actual download size of the photo since the byte size is the same regardless so why shrink the glory of jess? Dumbass!

Allyzay, Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, "dumbass" is unnecessary.

Allyzay, Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, didn't you read the Spencer Chow FAP thread? For shame and fuck!

Yesterday's papers, yadda yadda yadda...

;)

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

who can turn the world on with his smile?

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(hey jess, at least you don't have mad crazy huge plaque/calcium deposits on yr teeth, ruining a perfeckly good j0hn D. photo op)

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

my faith in jess is now restored.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

WORLDS ARE COLLIDING!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

jess is great.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, that's all well and fucking good but A) most of us know how to resize B) it doesn't change the actual download size of the photo since the byte size is the same regardless so why shrink the glory of jess?

you're right. why resize anything?

http://www.osric.com/~jeremy/drunk/jeremy.fuckoff.jpg

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Why resize it indeed? So, Kingfish, why precisely DID you resize a small image to massive size, to stretch it? The point is that images that are LEGITIMATELY that size would have a huge filesize, which doesn't change no matter how you tweak the width or height settings in HTML, and we'd probably change it to a link instead.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i just mean it for easier viewing, when one is scrolling down...

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 30 October 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Catwank, one can copy the path to the address line and view it that way -- i.e. tell people to copy "http://www.geocities.com/catwank/01370002.gif" to their browser and hit enter. Who's the guitarist?

nickn (nickn), Thursday, 30 October 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy from Duran Duran at the Forum. I was trying to post a picture of Winona and Sadie kissing to the Spookalogical thread. argh.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

you can post images on geocities if you call them something .txt and link them as such. Geocities thinks they are text files and serves them, the browser will read them as images because it is not so dumb.

Ed (dali), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

tried that, it didn't work. argh, argh.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I just openend a village pages account for free. You can store pix there and post them easily as seen on the what do you look like thread.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

they must have closed the loophole
