Breathtaking! Makes me a tad NYC-sick, as well....

my office is on the top floor of the building on the left facing the same direction as this photo does.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I can see my street from Tracer's POV!

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer, were you Blofeld?

adaml (adaml), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i know! jesus!! One of the amazing things was that we could see the weather way before anybody else. Unless we were enveloped in a fucking cloud! One time we had this bizarre bug attack, 1000s of scaly flappy bugs just hurled themselves at the windows, it was Biblical. people were curious and freaked - i mean it was LOUD, and then somebody decided it was "disgusting" and everybody closed their blinds and carried on working. it stopped eventually, i guess. i forgot about it, too. Norman was our "information architect." He wore an old style of well-tailored office clothes and a slightly waxed moustache. The whole impression was that he looked as if he'd jumped straight out of 1927 into the present. He loved to watch the progress of the boats down the East River, and he knew a lot about them. this is not the observation deck, people!! This was my OFFICE! (I shared it with Norman, my boss, an enormous man, Tad, easily more than 300 pounds, and a tiny smart-dressed Canadian girl with freckles and red hair.) From the offices on the southern side you could see the harbor, the Statue of Liberty, whole shamoodle. West is where the world trade center was. I wasn't working down there then.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "east side highway"

no, brooklyn

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

waaay in the distance, just to the left of the big black building in the foreground, the shape that sticks more up into the horizon than anything else is the "Williamsburgh Bank Building" (which misses Williamsburg by a few miles, it's at the corner of Flatbush and 4th Ave, my subway stop)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

it's still mine, dammit!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i know that stop well!

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

dude are you ready for the Brooklyn Nets??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

am i!?

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(not really)

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

just imagine how fucked that intersection will be if they build a stadium on top of the LIRR!! (i think the Nets have only talked to Marty Markowitz about such things so's to get more leverage in their negotiations for stadium improvements in wherever the hell it is they play in Jersey)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 October 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

these views are GORGE, mine here sucks

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

why do British people always close their shades? :( :( :(

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 October 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

We've all seen Rear Window and don't want Grace Kelly sneaking round our apartment.

Actually, I might open my blind NOW.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 October 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

This is roughly mine:

Yawn.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 31 October 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Who the hell cares? You are boring sods, the lot of you.

Jenny K Ellis, Monday, 3 November 2003 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

You are boring sods, the lot of you.

Archel's sod isn't boring. It's quite green actually.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 3 November 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

No window in my office so I can't see a thing, but from the roof you can see distant blimp hangars.

http://www.quartzcity.net/~chris/images/tustin_hangars.jpg

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 3 November 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

cor, i've never seen a blimp actually taking off or landing

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 November 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Archel isn't Sussex uni pretty? it feels quite American too (architecture and scenery wise, but there are also quite a few Americans around too. i was and am quite jealous)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 November 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

tracer, the red brick building.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 3 November 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah it does feel quite the modern American campus. Not that I'd know.

Basil Spence designed the library (pictured) to look like an open book, kinda. And apparently the steps everywhere are made deliberately too deep or weirdly spaced, to make you stop and go into a scholarly trance or something as you walk around...

Archel (Archel), Monday, 3 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

cor, i've never seen a blimp actually taking off or landing

It was great to see (I had that view from my old apartment at UCI), but the air base is shut down now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 3 November 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 November 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That's one big ass ring.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 3 November 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a cock ring, not an ass ring.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 3 November 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

And OOOF does it chafe!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 November 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i am aghast at the industrial redevelopment of the protected Shires land

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 November 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

bombadillo!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 3 November 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the shop across the road from my work. I wish I worked in New York instead.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 3 November 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

However, there used to be a TV studio on the roof of the building over the other way and the view out of my office was once Victoria Beckham tottering across a windy rooftop.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 3 November 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's the view outside my window at work right now:

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 3 November 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I look at two buildings and a sliver of sky. In a little over a year, though, I will (assuming I'm still in my job) have a view very similar to Tracer's old one.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
If I'd still been here at 6.30 yesterday evening, this is what I'd have seen from my office window. I'll try to remember my camera tomorrow so you can see the extent of the devastation. It's not the view I'd have liked, but it'll make a good picture.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah! Fire = go home at 11.10am!

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"At least 22 fire appliances attended the scene" well there's the problem. They should have used water.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed. Makes Dawlish seem even smaller.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I live across the street from giant (four or five story tall) Skyy Vodka ads. Horrible.

lucky. how do you get any work done?

Super Cub, Monday, 26 January 2009 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 26 January 2009 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

last location was alright too, but that was after 13 years of 1-3 floor suburban office parks, so karma finally paid off.

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 26 January 2009 17:36 (seventeen years ago)
