MY BIG BOX OF SPIVEY GOODNESSS!!!

::bounces excitedly::

Supposedly, it went out this morning, and I shall have it within 3 to 5 days. (HAH!) Hopefully, HSA will be at home to collect it (if they manage not to lose it) - although I hope he doesn't figure out what it is, or he'll probably BURN it.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I was waiting for a delivery the other day. A penguin radio that you can listen to in the shower. (sssh it's a little pressie for james - he wanted one!) It came at 7.30 in the morning when I was in the shower, james had to get out of bed to get it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Tee hee, is that good or bad, when you buy a present for someone, and they end up going to the door and getting it, does that ruin the surprise or just make it more mysterious?

Shall we have a Spivey Watching Party when it finally arrives, Catty? It's Kings and Queens, so you don't have to worry about WWII overkill. (Even though you may have to fight off the Richard III anti-defamation league)

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

lots of ceedees

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, at least we don't live in Swiss Cottage any more, so we don't have to go to Cricklewood to get parcels!

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Waaah! i won't get my Nightmares on wax album now until the postal strike is over.

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

A book for VP

I used to go to Cricklewood for my parcels when I was iN willesden, that place was a hole.

chris (chris), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i sent a package to kate yesterday.
i am waiting one from the minor thirds

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

a few CD-Rs from people via Nate's CD-R thread - and i still have to send mine out of course

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

A gigantic pile of CVs after placing an ad for an assistant in the Grauniad on Monday, only to see the post go tits-up and leave me stuck with a massive workload :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray for the Royal Mail adding "when will it arrive" excitement to our day!!!!

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not even talking about stuff I'm expecing from the Royal Mail, like, oh, say, my bloody TIMESHEET for a start...

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! Spiveyparty! Spiveyparty!
I am so pissed about this strike. This comes after those fuckwits sent a package I ordered back to Americaer after four weeks of calling and tracking and harassment because even though it got all the way to London Central, they couldn't schlep the fucker across town to Whitechapel. Whitechapel, for fuck's sake!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Spiveyparty!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so pissed about this strike.

Yes, I'm annoyed to, but that wouldn't start me drinking at this time of the morning!

Spiveyparty, hooray! (Though are we going to have to kick the boys into the backroom like we used to have to do when Fame Academy was on?)

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

We'll send the boys out for pizza. Don't they want to watch Kings and Queens? Or will they spend the whole time sniping about how inaccurate the Horny Historian is?

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, for a start HSA is starting to be a bit jealous of "Sexyboy" as he calls him. (Only because I ignore him for the half hour that the programme is on, as opposed to all the rest of the time that I give him my complete, undivided attention.) For a second, well, it's about kings and queens, and HSA being, you know, Liberal with a capital L and all, is AGAINST THE MONARCHY and thinks that if you're a Monarchist (as I am) you might as well be a Tory. Sigh.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

3 CDs from Amazon ordered on Wednesday night (doh!) Apparently they haven't yet been dispatched.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Sexxxxyyyyyy booooyyyyyy.....

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

give me my Basement Jaxx and Broadcast tickets already you fuXors

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop it! That video has monkeys in it and you know how HSA feels about monkeys!

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Save us Sexy Boy!

I know how he feels about monkeys... The Boy has similar feelings about monkeys. And also finds the monarchy funny so perhaps HSA won't be so upset since you're the only monarchist in the room. The Boy is anti-monarchy and I'm American so I don't give a fuck about anything except guns, oil, and SUVs. Apparently. Canyonaro - hyah!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, yeah, I'm also waiting for contracts so I can buy my goddamn flat. But that's not as important as Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

'Parcelforce'! That sounds futuristic!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It sounds incompetent!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Feel the ParcelForce, Geeta!

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember when post arrived... before the dark times. Before the Empire.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

/pedant mode

Parcelforce aren't actually affected by the strike, they're still turning up for work.

I'm going to creep back into my hole now.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Some people conception of who does what in the mail though needs to be cleared up. F'Rinstance Amazong don't usually send stuff Parcleforce - it is a considerable jump in cost. E-bayers who send stuff PF, unless its very big and very expensive, are mugs.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

/me reminds Vicky she owes him an email

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i order my DVDs from this company based in the bloody Channel Islands! but it's still bizarre how they offer free delivery and seem to use this as an excuse for the way each of the 12 DVDs i bought has been sent individually and trickled thru over a period of 4 weeks now.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazong
Ruthless tribe dwelling on remote planet Zong, leader is probly covered in gold paint.

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, ParcelForce aren't part of the Royal Mail, and they may not be affected by the strike (god, it is so hard not to type Strokes) but that doesn't excuse them for BEING SO BLOODY SHITE AT DELIVERING THINGS ALL THE TIME!!!

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but your stuff probably isn't going parcelforce (most PF stuff has guaranteed delivery dates, maximum I think inland is 48 hours).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The Amazon "your stuff was shipped today" note that I got this morning definitely specified that it was going Parcelforce.

And all the problems that Catty is describing are definitely Parcelforce as well. I know of what I speak!

(I may eat my words early next week, but we shall see. I have the advantage of having someone at my house all the time to collect deliveries, and I'm talking about the doorman as well as HSA.)

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Parcelfarce are utter, utter, utter shite. They lose packages, they damage packages, you can't schedule a delivery, they don't deliver on Saturdays. They are fucking useless. Where is the rationale behind paying for a delivery and then trekking out to Camden or Cricklewood or Butt Hole Road to get the package because they couldn't be bothered to attempt delivery, or if they did, don't leave a card; and charging you for re-delivery to a local post office or additional address? They suck big hairy moose cock.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought this thread was about any general delivery we were waiting for, using Parcelforce as just an example in the title.

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, both. I think Catty wanted to bitch about Parcelforce, and I just wanted to goon about my big box of Spivey Goodness.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

My CDs are def not coming Parcelforce because I went for the £25+ free delivery option.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I went for the £25+ free option, and it said very specifically in the email that they *are* shipping them by ParcelForce.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Please feel free to include all incoming deliveries. Except, you know, furniture from IKEA.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Parcelfarce is also a monopoly, you know. They have contracts with postal services in other countries so unless you pay out the nose to have something shipped via UPS or FedEx you're stuck with them and their incompetent boobery.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

We had notice of a pending delivery yesterday. Unfortunately it was at the address of our new house & was 2 sofas!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Parcelforce is part of Royal Mail, just a brand, as is Royal Mail (the actual distribution part of the service, minus huge parcels) and Post Office Counters.

You only need to use parcelforce for a certain size of parcel:

'Parcels of up to 30Kg in weight may be sent using Royal Mail. The maximum allowed length is 1.5 metres and the length and girth of the parcel combined must not exceed 3 metres.'

http://www.royalmail.com/portal/default/all/home?paf_dm=full&paf_gear_id=100002&paf_gear_state=con_content&xmlPath=/docContent/xml/01__Mail/045__Standard_parcels/01__Information.xml

I'm not trying to defend, just trying to be helpful.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 31 October 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, according to Royal Mail's customer service department, Parcelfarce is NOT a part of Royal Mail.
Or at least they won't take responsibility for their fuckups.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

They're a seperate brand, a seperate company, just owned by the same holding company.

It's confusing, cos the holding company is called Royal Mail Group plc, but one of the brands is Royal Mail. Obviously it was a whole lot easier when the holding company had a completely different name, i.e. Consignia, but the Press couldn't get it into their skulls that it was only the holding company that was called Consignia and the three brand companies, i.e. Royal Mail, Post Office, and Parcelforce, remained unchanged.... ;0)

I should have found that hole, and crawled into it with a damp flannel.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 31 October 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to send out lots and lots of Parcleforce parcel, and found they were actually really rather good (sending out exam papers). Considering the confidential nature of the contents and the massive contract they had with us this might not be surprising, but remember half the battle when sending a parcel is to pack it correctly. Teh number of half arsed, badly packed parcels I;ve seen (even from Amazon) shocks me.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

royal mail have some tapes that luka's sent me. god knows when they're going to get to me, though.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this a sureptitious thread about the unofficial mail strike in London, or something else?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It is Catty giving me an excuse to use the phrase BIG PACKAGE OF SPIVEY GOODNESS at every occasion possible.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i am unreconstructed and therefore like strikes: it reminds me of sausages toasted on an open fire* and eaten by candlelight during the three-day week

(*actually we had a coke-fired aga)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohmygod you're so old!

smee (smee), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

the s stands for methuSelah, didn't you know?

chris (chris), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't, thanx ;0)
I think I was like concieved during the above mentioned strikes....you know, they had nothing else to do, it was dark etc etc

smee (smee), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i remember the good old days, before the moon got all dirty

mark s (mark s), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

*shudders*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Spivey Goodness. A big package of Spivey Goodness.

Sorry, my brain appears to be stuck again!

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually "What are we waiting for from Parcelforce?" sounds a lot like an Onion Stat Shot.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.theonion.com/3941/image_article1684_250x211.jpg

Catty (Catty), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, I like it, it makes me feel like we're all part of some big, spooky Cargo Cult type thing.

Waiting for Spivey Goodness to fall from the sky.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The Spivery goodness you're waiting for falls from somewhere else.
yoink!
