Are there no short legged men left?

I have just been on an extremely aggravating shopping trip. Despite trailing around half of the west end this morning I completely failed to find a decent pair of jeans or cords that fit me. No problem in the waist department (34") but NOWHERE had anything wearable in less than a 32" inside leg. My usual saviour, Gap, had an none too great selection in plain bootcut or straight legged, and the low waisted bootcut just doesn't cope with my arse. I swear this never used to be a problem. Admittedly I am a bit bigger round the middle than I used to be, but there didn't seem to be any 32" waist 30" leg pairs about either. What the hell is going on? Has there been some secret cull of the short legged that I somehow managed to escape?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Gee, Ricky, you have the opposite problem to me! Every time I find trousers I like, they never have them in a 32" leg, they only ever have 30", and those flap around my ankles something stupid.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't you just buy the long 'uns and get your mum to take them up for you?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ricky wear a mu-mu instead

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Eyeball Kicks OTM

No jokes about short "third leg"s here. no siree bob.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you thought about a skirt?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

If you can stand to, try M&S.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

EK, It's been a long time since my Mum would do that for me.

I know not what a mu-mu is, but its name strikes fear into my heart.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

If that doesn't work, try S&M.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone please post a picture from the Simpsons episode where Homer starts wearing a mu-mu.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have the same problem, Ricardo, made worse by the fact that my waist is bigger than yours. I hate shopping for pants. Hate it hate it. I have two pairs of work pants that I bought two years ago because I never want to go shopping for more.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you know that in the world of trouser makers the fatter you get the longer your legs get? Apparently trouser makers never put on weight....

Ah, now I remember that episode.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

serves you right for not eating your wheaties!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think the hat is compulsory.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

come to america. everytime i go shopping there are plenty of 36" and 38" waists, but only 30 and 32" lengths. (i need a 36" length.) we are in an epidemic of fat midgets in this country apparently.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to search high and low for 34"-34" jeans. 36-34, check, 34-32 check, no 34-34.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

or Ricky could just be like SK8-DUDE and wear those baggy pants that stop at the lower shin

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Or Capri pants, to highlight his calfs.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah finding jeans with equal length and waist is the eternal goal

haha this might actually be a problem if i can ever get back down to a 36 :-(

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I once had a fight with someone over whether the fifth word in the thread title was pronounced leg-ed or legd.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

legd, obv

smee (smee), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Marna can do the taking up and shortening thing although I am not sure how well that will work with bootcut man-pants. I never knew it was so difficult for meng - although finding lady trousers is half the reason why I wear skirts all the time with the noble exception of house trousers. There must be a SOLUTION!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

legd, obv

Are you trying to start something?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Aye.

smee (smee), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I have same problem -- which just leads to horribly disfigured seams at the bottom of my trousers, etc. This is the bane of my existence.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I have SHORT LEGS! I'm not afraid to say it.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Finding jeans is so hard these days. Everything is boot cut, which is like awful coz of my stick legs.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Y'see, I like bootcut, cos it balances out the gut whilst not being baggy all the way down and making my legs look even shorter than they are.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't believe in hemming jeans. Just take a good pair of scissors and cut off the excess. It's not like you're wearing them to funerals or weddings.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 31 October 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm 34 in the waist (I can still squeeze into an old 32" waist pair, but it's uncomfortable), and my legs are shorter than yours, Rick - 27"! Obviously there has never been any point searching for jeans that don't need adjusting. It costs me a couple of quid to get them adjusted - dry cleaners will do it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 31 October 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

we are in an epidemic of fat midgets in this country apparently.

For realz yo, as evidenced by the bottomcuffs of my pants legs' proximity to the top regions of my calves.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 31 October 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, Ricardo, the lack of 30" inseam trousers suggests that there are a LOT of short-legged men who are buying it all up before you can.

Mandee (Jerrynipper), Friday, 31 October 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Bootcut have absolute jean strangehold in this country now, why is this? A respectable straight-leg 34"-36" is unachieveable unless you go to Levi and they don't do long-long-leg in any of the NICE blues; also this obviously involves remortgaging soul to purchase and the outlet Levi store doesn't recognise anything longer than a 34".

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 31 October 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
exactly 32" waist 30" leg - I'm here and I'm real!

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

eat your wheaties!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

dont want no short short man

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

Alex OTM with Levis. 36" legs are not that rare, chumpers! (Nor is a 36" waist at Christmas time. Grr!)

stet (stet), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

and where the fuck are these mystery 36-inchers? EH??

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

I was looking for jeans last night and I couldn't find any 36/30s. Well, I did find one pair, but couldn't hang with the bleaching/fading that looked like a full circle of white lines radiating from my crotch.

It's almost like you think there's no scroll option.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

When I'm out jeans shopping, all I see are 30Ls. 36/34 are almost impossible to find.
