I had my bike stolen (the lock was cut) on my 18th birthday. :(

We left our bikes, my brother and I, out on the front porch to dry off from the mud one day. We came in and took our boots off. When we were done, the bikes were gone. They were our big present that year, at a time when my parents were poor, and we'd had them only a few weeks. Bleh.

One christmas, my parents got me a bike. My first mountain bike. I rode it around my 'hood, down into the park, came back, dropped it in the yard, ran inside to eat s'um, came back out not 30 minutes later...it was gone.

So yeah, what the fuck with people stealing little kids' bikes out of their yard with lightning quickness and ninja stealth?

I've had countless bikes stolen. Once when I was quite young it got stolen from the school bike sheds (I'd been in too much of a rush to get to class to lock it).
Another time I left it outside a friend's house for five minutes when I came out it was gone only to reappear in the school bikesheds. It seems that a kid from our school had nabbed it and sold it to a first year. I got it back.
Another time it was stolen from Hitchin town centre on a Saturday afternoon. The lock was broken when I found it.

eleven months pass...
SOME FUCKING MOTHERFUCKER SUBHUMAN FUCKING TWAT CRETIN HAS STOLEN MY NEW BIKE! :-( I found the lock broken and bikeless in Letchworth town centre just now! This is so fucking wack!

You weren't meant to be cycling to the FAP were you? That sucks.

dog latin, does Letchworth have CCTV in the town centre? the police could have images of the thieving git on camera.

I'll find out tomorrow - the copshop's closed today. It's annoying as I start a new job tomorrow and I've got no bike to get there. Grrr!

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 3 October 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, that really sucks! Hope they nail the bastard - having bikes nicked really is the suck. What's new job?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 3 October 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

corporate whore. Oh now my Dad's telling me it's MY fault it got nicked. Nice one.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 3 October 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Never had a bike nicked but I always use about three locks whenever I leave one anywhere. But comiserations Dog Latin, it would break my brittle little heart if someone did ever pinch mine.

BTW heads up to anyone with a lock that takes a cylindrical key. Kryptonite have just realised that these 'ultra-secure' locks can be undone just using the end of a Bic ballpoint pen in the chamber and have thus launched a massive product recall.
