Wiretap, radio rips, etc.

Hi. I use Wiretap on OSX for ripping radio progs, etc, but all of my rips are encoded as whopping aiff files, which means that I have to be a bit careful not to leave it running for too long. My questions are these:

1. Can I adjust the preferences of Wiretap to reduce the filesize of my recordings?

OR

2. Are there any applications that so this better?

I think it's a neat little app, all told-up there with Stickies!!!

I used a demo version of Audio Hijack once, and was not particularlyimpressed. Supposedly their pro version ($30) does exactly what you need, recording directly to some compressed format like MP3.

Wiretap is the best app out there for this, but once you've finished recording why not convert them to mp3 or aac with iTunes?
