Even with Joe Millionaire sputtering, I'm hotly excited for Average Joe tonight. Even though the promos make out the contestants to be complete rejects, the show seems promising. And the main chick's expression when she finds out what they look like = classick.

let me know when Joe goes from Average to Viewtiful.

I'll be over here napping.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

think they would do an "average jane"?

s1utsky (slutsky), Monday, 3 November 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't even think the average joes looked that bad, is everybody supposed to look like a supermodel now?

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 3 November 2003 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i just watched this show. guilty pleasure. the roomates and i are now hooked. i am rooting for marc or brad. this malana chick is a complete idiot, it is going to be a riot!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i loved this show, classy.
i kinda liked that indian guy, but was he being intentionally quirky?

So, did anyone watch the finale last night????

Can we just talk about the travesty of justice that was last night's finale? Melana chooses pretty boy waiter lives-with-his-mom guy *OVER* self-made man day-trader, schlubby "Average Joe" everyman???

WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT? WHAT SORT'VE MESSAGE DOES THAT SEND? Wasn't the point of the show to demonstrate that normal, NON-pretty boys had a shot too?

I found it sickening and utterly disheartening and it made me want to end all human life on this planet.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex watched it heh heh.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

That guy's eyes were too close together.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, what were you doing watching this to begin with? It doesn't seem very Killing Joke, if you know what I mean...

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, fuck Average Jose, who watched Fear Factor last night? Oh my God teh WORM SAUSAGE!!!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"What? Puck's been kicked out of the house? BUNIM/MURRAY PRODUCTIONS, FROM THE HEART OF HELL I STAB AT THEE!"

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't seem very Killing Joke, if you know what I mean...

Even I succumb to the siren-like appeal of pop cultural pabulum every now and again.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The pretty boy seemed vapid. The average Joe wasn't that bad looking, aside from the HUGE TEETH. He seemed like a good guy, though he was trying too hard.

I'd only seen this a couple of times before the finale, but it seems really stupid that she picked the pretty boy.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

It just seemed like such a soul-defeating, cruel climax, as the final episode definitely seemed initially stacked in schlubby big toothy day trader guy's favour. I realize these stupid shows are just shallow excercises in artifice and manipulation, but I was really dispirited by the ending. It was just a big, middle-fingery confirmation that beautiful people get all the breaks and guys with big teeth get the shaft.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy shit! TV in not-happy-ending SHOCKAH! That's actually kind of beautiful in a twisted way.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but doesn't it seem rather nasty? Fuck you, frog, you don't get to become a prince after all. Now back to the swamp with you, but not before we show your genetic lottery-winner rival take off with your would-be princess.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You'd think the whole "oh, by the way, I'm a millionaire" thing would have gotten toothy-guy some points. Though the poem he wrote to her--sweet sentiment and all but, dude, that sucked.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I didn't think the guy in question was necessarily any great catch (yeah, the poem was a bad idea), but shouldn't she have picked one of the guys from the "average joe" (read: dorky) pool as opposed to the pick of the litter from the "pretty boy" pool?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

People are shallow shockah!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the flaw in the show is that the "average joe's" all had uniformally AWFUL personalities. I couldn't stand to hang around any of those guy for even a second.

if they really tried to get guys who were decent, normal people it would have been interesting. they got assholes and dorks tho.

ryan (ryan), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

That guy's eyes were too close together.

ha that was my only observation for few minutes I watched it as well.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

the average joe finalist was a total mushmouth. maybe if he had grasped the concept of actually pronouncing words instead of garbling them all together he would have won.

"jason storm" was an idiot however.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

eight months pass...
I liked this programme, but I found it hard to hear what they were saying with all the loud music.

I liked that she chose the vapid pretty boy. It was funny.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It has been the best thing on TV the past few week.
Poor Adam - as was mentioned upthread, the poem was a mistake, but he was definitely the right choice. You should be ashamed for laughing at Adam's misery (not really) - he took it so nicely too.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it was sweet.

I find it hard to think of Malena as a real person.

Thinking about it, the whole show was in fact predicated on the notion that looks are all important, in that it was assumed they would all want to go out with her.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The best bit of the whole show though, was her facial expressions in the first episode, from the moment the gorgeous bloke appeared, and told her her wasn't participating, through to meeting each one, and then going into the quiet room by herself.
