do you think it might be construed as poor manners to sit at your desk with the paper open to the want ads making big red circles...esp. if you work at the paper?

No, but don't do it via the web since monster and workopulis and such are often flagged.

what about being called in for your semi-annual performance review, and saying you'll have to reschedule because you have "a job interv...er dentist's appointment" that day?

I sat at my desk reading the job ads a couple of weeks ago and my employer promptly extended my contract until January. If they need a great big hint, they need a great big hint.

good to hear, that's the point I'm trying to make (though if I find a better job, so much the better)

Whilst we're here - has anyone had experience with pre-employement questionnaires? I've been asked to fill one in allowing them to obtain a doctors report on me - I really don't want to do this. They only check it if you're offered the post, but still.

i was just asked to repeat a task I have already done for no other reason than the fact that the top boss wants it done and done TODAY (I did it yesterday!) and I've just been asked to help pack boxes of pins for a cross promotion with Macdonalds on Friday afternoon (which is when I'm supposed to be off early, but never am because...well, because I waste so much damn time here).
I am so done. I have no desire to stay in my job at all. For a few moments this morning I was like, y'know, if they just showed a little more respect...and then I realized that I FUCKING HATE IT HERE.

I applied for a job this morning from my desk at work, but my current work knows that I'm leaving and I still tried to maintain some facade of subtlety about it.
