Strokes pull record.

New York City buzz band the Strokes' eagerly anticipated debut album, Is This It, has been pushed back from September 25th to October 9th, after the band decided to remove the song "New York City Cops" in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks in New York City. The band recorded a new track, "When It Started," last weekend to replace "New York City Cops," which contains the third-person, tongue-in-cheek lyric "New York City Cops, they ain't too smart." "The band stands by the song 'New York City Cops,' but feels after witnessing the valiant response of the New York City Police Department during last week's tragedy, that the timing was wrong to release it during these highly sensitive times," said a Strokes spokesperson. The song appears on U.K. pressings of the album.

I was actually wondering when they'd get around to this. . .

Sorry -- this thread should be titled "Strokes postpone record," I guess.

I thought it was about pulling using the Strokeses record.

This is old news surely - they announced this very soon after the 11th. I want to hear the new track though.

They just added the track back in after the lead singer got a speeding ticket!

Welp, I already got it. I heard the story, though, when I asked the guy at Sounds for it, but when I got to Kim's they had about 8 copies left. I like them okay. They are fun. Censoring yourself is kind of silly, but I can understand not wanting to dredge up the sort of controversy that Sinutab O'Connor did when she ripped up the pope. The Strokes are just starting, right? They don't need that shit.

Yeah, I assume it was an immediate and obvious decision, but I hadn't seen anything about it, and was sort of waiting ... but it sounds like I just missed that news, eh?

I'm *gasp* going to see them tomorrow night and was/am sort of curious as to whether they'll play "NYC Cops" or what they'll say about it, if anything. Can't imagine the new song that will be included on the U.S. record could be worse than that, though. IMHO, it's the weakest thing I've heard by them.

Ironically, label mates and opening band the Moldy Peaches aren't scrambling to replace "NYC's Like a Graveyard" on their record as much fewer people care about them anyway.

Kate does and she's mad as hell!

I want to see them too; I missed them a couple months ago when they played the tiny Bottom of the Hill, I'm seeing Bjork the following night, but I guess there's no reason I can't see two shows in a row... New York City Cops was one of the UK singles, no?

This shoulda been about a Strokes' gangbang video.

Oh come now, Hale y ... I think you're like the little boy who throws things at the girl he likes. Or me, cause I still do that sometimes.

Seriously, though, maybe we should place some sort of moratorium on Strokes-abuse in threads that aren't necessarily about whether the Strokes are good or bad, but just about other issues related to the Strokes.

Actually, nevermind -- this was a bum thread to begin with. Sounds like everyone else already heard this.

Nitsuh, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ummm ... Hanle y. Not Hale y.
