Ya been warned, Tudors... I'm not going down with this ship cos it ain't sinking. Taste my pain, sailor-boyz!

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

What? Where's Johnny Depp?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Featuring Herman Menderchuk?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha-ha! Hspanish fools! We've got a navy of Privateers and ENGLISH WEATHER and you think that you can invade us? If the storms and the rocks and the Scottish coast don't get yer Popish arses, then the pirates will! Mwah hah hah hah!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's up for a game of bowls?

Francis Drake (robster), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Drake, my god, man! Are you on fire?!?!? Quick!!! ::rapidly throws a bucket of water::

Oh wait, sorry, you're just at that Demon Weed again.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

(There can never be enough history threads for me, really...)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! I will stop at nothing! I will install my troops in cupboards in the great houses of the land! I will have your big gay king come over to us by means of a mata-hari style courtier!

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

(Pssst, Enrique, Armada took place during the reign of Elizabeth I, not James I, the "Big Gay King". I'm pretty sure that James I was a Catholic anyway, thus eliminating the need for an Armada to pound us out of our rogue protestant state.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Do one! I'm on a Niall Freguson counter-history trip. Nayway, that was only 30 years later and I said "I will have your big gay king" -- ie future tense (or whatver -- perfect?) anyway so nerrrrrr.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrrrr, arrrrr, arrrrrrr, me laddie.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, what was the name of that ocean archeology programme? It was like Time Team but with boats and stuff... damn, I have forgotten its name.

Anyway! They went to some busy harbour (Funnily enough, I can't remember where, either - curse you alcamohol!) where ancient wreckages of Armada boats were being churned up by ferries' wake! They were really over-ambitious, bringing along their fancy china and everything, so sure they were that they were going to succeed.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Tide Team

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

No... WRECK DETECTIVES!!! That was what it was. That they clearly ripped off the Dirt Detective. Whatever happened to the Dirt Detective, anyway? He was mega-rowr.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

What about 'speed archaeology' ala Eddie Izzard?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Wot, like Rolf Harris guesting on Time Team?

::whizzes away at half uncovered artefact::

"Can you tell what it is yet?"

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone seen it? It was when he took over channel 4 for an evening. he basically dug the ground with a bulldozer rather than a little fork. Maybe you had to see it for it to be funny. *sigh*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I missed it! But I must admit that it sounds funny. That's the sort of thing that would make HSA's mum's hair stand on end! I mean, they dig at a single site for months on end!

She thinks it's cheating when Time Team get a backhoe in to take the grass off the top!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, it was funny, i taped it & i've got in on video if you wanna see it sometime?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent, I would, actually!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, then send us your address & if I can find it (i'll look over the w/e) i'll send it to ya!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers!

Is yer hotmail account active? Well, I suppose I'll find out and see if it is returned to me!

(Though I suppose you could bring it down with you if you come to the Girly FAP.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's active so mail away.

i really can't see me coming purely because of money (or lack thereof) at the moment, but i should know nearer the time.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

:-(

OK, I've emailed. Like I said, no biggie if you can't find it, but I am curious to see it!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I've emailed back so I'll definitely check for ya.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You gotta come down to Cambridge to check out your prof sometime then we can go acocktaildrinkin!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hrmmm. I would actually like to go to Cambridge again - so long as we can go to the excellent vegetarian cafe!!! (Cocktail drinkin' is always an incentive, though.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I am a veggie, so I see no probs in going there! You are talking about the Rainbow Cafe aren't you?
http://www.rainbowcafe.co.uk/
We can get their food delivered!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

That is indeed the place!

::salivates::

(One thing about touring is, you start to know every vegetarian cafe in every town! Now I have to figure out a reason to go to Norwich to go to The Treehouse.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh i've never been there, must make a trip soon!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Their milkshakes are incredible! Even the vegan milkshakes are astonishingly good! We actually drove to Norwich on a tour day off just to have dinner there! (OK, it was also cause our friends were playing there the same day, but still.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Norwich is just a short train journey from Cambridge. We could do our tour of veggie places to eat & say that we are food critics.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What an excellent idea! (HSA's aunt has actually worked as a Proper food critic, I should ask her for some tricks of the trade to make it seem believable.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool, I have checked out the most recent menu at the rainbow cafe & I've already made my choice! num num!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

mmm...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Omigod, I can't even begin to decide! I never have this problem. In most restaurants, it's "well, I guess I'm having the only vegetarian option on the menu".

I'm really torn between this:

BOBOTIE
Adapted from a traditional South African recipe with QUORN in a stimulating sweet/spicy sauce, with sultanas and topped with cheese, oven baked and served with rice.

and this:

CHAMPIGNON EN CRÔUTE
French pastry twist stuffed with wild mushrooms, cream, brandy and herbs, sprinkled with wild sesame seeds. Served with wild rice melange, tuscan sauce and salad.

Wild mushrooms drive me WILD!!! but wow, I haven't had proper South African food in soooo long and it looks sooo good!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate so otm, I always have to go for the veggie option, how great is it having the whole menu to choose from?!! Sarah, you've gotta come over & join us!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

We loved going there on tour because me, the bassist, the bassist's husband, and our tour manager were all vegetarian. Poor lone meat-eating drummer who had to sweat over the menu for a change!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

*sniggers* good job aswell, I am sooo going there soon.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we get back on track here? I'm a gonna invade and convert yas all, well not actually, most ppl are already catholic, it's just the orrible bourgies who've fallen for these German/Swiss killjoys.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless you come bearing vegetarian treats, we're having none of this Armada nonsense. Onto the Scottish rocks with you!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(After all that wholesome organic vegetarian food, we should just aim our arses at your fleet, and our wind power will blow them off course!)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i bring chorizo and rioja

avast ye!

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

rioja we'll take but chorizo?!! Off with his head!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Bring some of those nice Spanish Olives and we might think about it.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll just be happy with the wine, you can eat all of the olives!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Well WEIRDLY I AM in Cambridge on Saturday cos it's my dad's birthday; however, it's a flying visit. I might make Fopp/Galloway & Porter, but otherwise it's all go pour moi --

But -- you'll love this -- some of the earliset fans of Luther circa 1515 gathered in a pub REALLY VERY NEAR your Hippie Cafe, dunno the name but the church by the arts theatre is also a V early Prot church.

I'm coming from Oxford where we BURN your lot.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

*gasps*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm - chorizo. Sorry, er... ready the ships! Prepare to repel the Spanish menace from our shores! Christ I need a fag...

Sir Francis Drake (robster), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

You keep your hands off the cabin boy, there, Francis!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed, I cycled over where we burned Cranmer just this lunch hour. On my way to buy 'mondo' hoover bags.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Now back to the yummy food!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ROQUEFORT PLAIT
Light and delicious flaky pastry encasing roguefort cheese, asparagus and a creamy fresh parsley sauce made with rich goats milk Served with wild rice melange, tuscan sauce garnish and salad

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that looked amazing. I'm really into Roquefort. But I'm kind of not sold on the idea of asparagas. Although I have had it recently and I actually did quite like it, in general I'm not a fan.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait to visit you guys some day and go out to eat.

I think being a vegetarian has screwed up my ability to make decisions. There's always only one or two things I can order from any given restaurant. So, when I go to veggie buffets I get all confused and my head explodes.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

ewwww, then they're not veggie buffets anymore!

"EXCUSE me, waiter, but there are chunks of skull in the lentil beans."

"....that's not skull. that's...extra-hard soy cakes. yeah."

"oh! my mistake, then! i should try some!"

"yes, they go well with the tartar. Enjoy"

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I so agree with you Sarah, it's like give me an option of 2 veggie dishes & I can never decide. A whole menu...*head explodes*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

With all these exploding heads, it's gonna be a walkover for the Spanish!

When there's more than one option, I usually resort to eenie-meeny-miney-moe games. Either that or pick whatever has the most mushrooms. Mmmmmmushrooms.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the most mushrooms or cheese!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got an idea... how about stuffed mushrooms? Mushrooms stuffed with CHEEEEEESE!!!

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yet just as the mighty armada were about to cement their triumph over their virtuous adversaries, they were abruptly and brutally attacked by CANIBLES, who proceeded to consume their remains for a timely banquet.

From the virgin waves emerged the proud head of...a swimming rat. "Heard ya missed me, well I'm back," he quipped.

Tony Seed, Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh yeah, sounds good kate! right give us everthing you've got that contains mushrooms & cheese!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)
