Oh fuck, this is depressing me

It's as hard as a rock right up until it's time to put the condom on... then limpsville big time. My girlfriend doesn't really want to go on the pill. We've tried everything, me putting it on, her putting on... depression and humiliation. Anyone else suffer from this or am I all alone with this one?

Anonymous regular poster, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

is she putting it on with her mouth?

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The mouth thing can work, but less so now I've got this psychological block about the whole damn business.

Anonymous regular poster, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Strap-on.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Casuistry, but it's not a joke thread. Unfortunately.

Anonymous regular poster, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Viagra, my friend takes it.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

is the condom the right size? sometimes that can cause...issues.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is the idea of wearing a strap-on a joke?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Put the condom on, put the strap-on on, start banging away, get excited by it, remove strap-on.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Eventually associate condoms with excitment and get over your mental block.

I dunno, seems logical (and fun) to me.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

my friend once bought a penis splint at an NYC pharmacy.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe masturbate with a condom on

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Or, more to the point: It sounds like a psychological block, not a physical block. So find ways to have fun that don't stress you out like the condom seems to. I mean, yes, there's Viagra, but... I dunno, maybe it's just me, but a pill isn't how I would approach this sort of thing. YMMV.

(xpost) Blount also OTM.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

switch to spermicide or the sponge?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

just don't wear a condom, birth control is the woman's responsibility anyways

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't have sex for a week.
Start up again with only manual and oral stimulation.
Focus on her.
Shit, I dunno.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

(I don't actually believe that, I am trying to draw heat away from the jr. high ilx drama)

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

think about how many people only wish they had a problem like this

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

then picture them in their underwear

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

cinnablount, off to the Radical Menstruation thread with you!

First of all, anonymous poster, I thank you for starting a thread that has nothing to do with those (cough cough) other threads.

Your gf should be on the pill regardless, but it's not foolproof, so you really should still use a second method of birth control regardless. Have you had this problem with past gfs?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

kingfish = OTM. upsize, if it's too tight it could be restricting blood flow.

McCluskly is not OTM, the pill has many undesirable side effects.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey gygax, way to go telling a woman who's on the pill that she doesn't know about the pill.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Like what, gygax!?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he's referring to women's lib.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah, I have had this problem with other gfs, but not to this extent. It's totally a psychological block thing, but it's got to the point where I can almost never unblock it, it's fucking up all sorts of things and messing with my life. My gf doesn't want to take the pill for various health reasons. To people who've posted with suggestions, my thanks, you've given me food for thought. Got to go, I'll be checking the thread in the morning.

Anonymous regular poster, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I don't have any better advice than was already mentioned. Best of luck with it.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

from the planned parenthood site (sorry NA, think Macro here):

SOME RISKS

As with all drugs, there may be some undesirable side effects for some women taking the Pill. However, the Pill is much safer than pregnancy and childbirth for healthy women– except among smokers age 35 and older.

Some side effects that usually clear up after two or three months of use include

bleeding between periods
weight gain or loss
breast tenderness
nausea — rarely, vomiting
changes in mood
Nausea and vomiting often can be reduced or eliminated by taking the Pill with the evening meal or at bedtime. (Do not stop taking the Pill if you feel sick to your stomach.) Irregular spotting and bleeding happen more frequently with progestin-only pills than with combination pills.

Other possible side effects include

headache
change in sexual desire
depression
Serious problems do not occur very often. Pill users have a slightly greater chance of certain major disorders than nonusers. The most serious is the possibility of blood clots in the legs, lungs, heart, or brain. Women on the Pill who undergo major surgery seem to have a greater chance of having blood clots. Blood clots in the legs occur with increased frequency for women and men who
have one or both legs immobilized
are confined to their beds
It is important to stop taking the Pill about four weeks before a scheduled major operation. Do not start again while recuperating or while a leg or arm is in a cast.

Rarely, women who take the Pill develop high blood pressure. Very rarely, liver tumors, gallstones, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) occur in women who take the Pill. More detailed information about the use and risks of the Pill is provided in an insert included with each pill pack.

THE PILL AND BREAST CANCER

Most experts agree that taking the Pill does not increase the overall risk of developing breast cancer– no matter how long a woman takes the Pill or even if she has a close relative with breast cancer.

You should not take the Pill if you

smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day and are 35 or older (Trussel, p.421)
have high blood pressure
have a history of blood clots or vein inflammation
have unexplained bleeding in your vagina
have had an abnormal growth or cancer of the breast or uterus
have very high cholesterol levels
have a severe liver disease or have had growths of the liver
have certain conditions associated with diabetes mellitus
think you might be pregnant

Some women can take the Pill under close medical supervision if they are very overweight or have

a high risk for heart disease
slightly high cholesterol or slightly increased blood pressure migraine headaches
a seizure disorder that requires taking anticonvulsant medication
had diabetes including diabetes associated with pregnancy
had gallbladder disease(CT, p.421)
a skin cancer called malignant melanoma
a certain cancer of the nervous system called meningioma
For most women with these conditions, the risks of pregnancy are more dangerous than those of the Pill.

Women with a history of depression may not be able to continue to take the Pill if it worsens the problem.

EARLY WARNING SIGNS

Serious problems usually have warning signs. Watch for them. If one occurs, report it to your clinician as soon as possible. These warning signs include

sudden or constant pain or redness and swelling in the leg
pain in the abdomen, chest, or arm
a seizure disorder that requires taking anticonvulsant medication
sudden shortness of breath or spitting up blood
eye problems such as blurred or double vision
worsening depression
yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

All pills have some sort of possible side-effect, but I get your point.

Personally, I'd rather risk all that than get preggo.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

god - 'upsize' is the best advice: "it's not that you're impotent, your cocks just too big!"

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Your gf should be on the pill regardless, but it's not foolproof, so you really should still use a second method of birth control regardless.

I can certainly (sadly) second this piece of advice, even though I've stupidly not really taken it myself.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

replacing "has undesirable side effects" with "can have undesirable side effects", gygax OTM. I have many dear friends who have been on the pill who have been miserable while on it. (Of course their boyfriends refused to use a condom, and that's a whole other messy issue that's worth it's own thread)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, blount OTM re: multiple penises.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Careful with spermicide - check if you can that you're not allergic to it before you use it. Me and my girlfriend used it one time and we were both sore for days and days afterwards.

Condoms fuckin suck tho.

Another regular, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day

heh. why do i get the feeling that this puts some ILXors in the "probably shouldn't use it, then" category?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

you think some ILXors smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to suffer from this same thing, only relatively mildly I guess. I haven't any advice, sadly, apart from try and relax more. My thoughts are with you (in a non-perv way); this kind of thing can be really fucking soul-destroying.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

that is an incredible amount of cigarettes a day.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

By Incredible, you mean good, right?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not ashamed to admit i have that same problem with condoms.
usually i try (when i use them) to:
1. get it on real fast (the condom, assface) and insert in warm, moist place asap*
2. use the thinnest (= most expensive) condoms*
3. use larger condoms = less constricting*

i wish i knew why it happens.
*these are only limpness reduction methods, not a guaranteed solution

and at least you seem to have an understanding gf - i had 1 girl that was a complete bitch about it.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I have cut down a lot.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

once again, i must thank the lady Ilxors for vindicating me.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

not validating, though.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I also take birth control pills. I will probably die when I am 30.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)
