Reese's Peanut Butter Cups: Does size really matter?

i have to say that i think that the larger sized cups, which come most often in packages of two, are far superior to those tiny bite sized ones. the smaller ones have an altered chocolate to peanut butter ratio. too much chocolate, not enough pb.

Northern Lights

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

the new inside out peanut butter cups make me excited.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, they give me indigestion, the new ones.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

actually your right, they kind of hurt going down.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Anything that involves melding peanut butter and chocolate is intrinsically foul.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, would don't you just call yourself Christopenis Bonerecto?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU ARE CRAZY!

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I like that one donut.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I take hershey bars and dip 'em straight-up in the peanut butter jar, I have total command of my chocolate-to-peanut-butter ratio.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

crunchy-style pb cups: c/d?

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Anything that involves melding peanut butter and chocolate is intrinsically foul.

Nick, you obviously have been huffing silly string.
My favorite two new Reeces products:
* White chocolate peanut butter cups
* Peanut butter cups with small dark chocolate cookie bits inside

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm white chocolate peanut butter cups????

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Just like the normal ones, but white chocolate outside. They had them at the work vending machine here for ONE FUCKING DAY! and now they are GONE GONE GONE FOR FUCKING EVER!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

the inside out ones are nasty! they contain a substance inside that just doesn't taste like chocolate. it has no taste! it is the antichocolate!!!!!!!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

thats because its bird poop.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

This is yet another thread where I am moved to violent stomach-sickness by Americans discussing 'sweets' and 'chocolate'.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I had no idea there was white chocolate ones or inside out ones -- clearly, I have been living a sheltered life.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

(x post) Oh, go suck on some soggy hairy pork skins, then.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"soggy hairy pork skins" ew, oh they're covered in chocolate huh? MMMMM

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

As long as they're salty, donut.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Your blood will be able to conduct electricity the rate you consume sodium, my dear Nick. I fear...

*go gets children's electricity science kit excitedly*

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*bzzz*

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmm, I like the inside out ones for I like the peanut butter more than the chocolate (although my coworkers have brought up the legitimate issue that you lose the crumbly texture of the Reese's compound when it's on the outside).

I like the mini peanut butter cups for the same reason, it seems like there's more peanut butter.

I can't eat the Reese's Pieces anymore, they just taste like wax.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick probably doesn't like chocolate covered pretzels either!

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I love the idea of what's basically a ready salted crisp sheathed in bad chocolate.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

reese's pieces are better when microwaved for a few seconds. it rids them of that waxiness.

oh, and peanut butter m&ms are fantastic that way too.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It doesn't have to be bad chocolate!

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You are all discussing and must have stomach ulcers.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick- this will really make you sick. my little brother likes to dip doritos into a bowl of melted semisweet chocolate chips. cheesy chocolatey corn chips-yum!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you all scrape the taste-buds off your newborn's tongues?!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, then we batter 'em, deep fry 'em, and feed 'em to YOU.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The deep-frying thing is Scottish, Nickalicious. Down here we eat pasties and cream teas.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The white chocolate ones were so nasty, ick.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

after the deep frying, we like to cover them in chocolate and caramel. then add a layer of sea salt. mmmmmmmmmmmm, tastebuds.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Pasties = best thing about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

that, and the Mystery Spot.

Ludwig Van Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

There's one of those in Oregon, too.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

santa cruz. http://www.mysteryspot.com/

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

reese's pieces singly are terrible, but putting a whole handful in your mouth at once makes them delicious.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

small reese's cups right out of the refrigerator are THA BEST!

question: are they named for Della Reese or for Reese Witherspoon?

Skottie, Thursday, 6 November 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking about this three hours ago. CRAZY.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 6 November 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I love reece's pieces, I brought back three packets last week, and it wasn't nearly enough. I also brought peanut butter twixs, but they are minging, totally wrong peanut butter/chocolate ratio, and the texture in your mouth is so unpleasant, bleuch.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I like 'em.

chris (chris), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

::drools::

Oh my god, I miss mini Peanut Butter Cups. I find them far more satisfying than the bigger ones because of higher chocolate content.

I've told you all the story already, haven't I, of how my (at the time) boyfriend and I once sat up all night drinking coffee and eating peanut butter cups and made this idol out of the wrappers and called it MOCHA JAVA and when his annoying housemate woke up, we were dancing around the kitching venerating Mocha Java. "You got peanut butter in my lithium! You got lithium in my peanut butter!"

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

reece's pieces are minging because they contain no chocolate, peanut butter m&ms on the other hand are food of the gods.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

::drools::

I do actually love Reeses Pieces, but they're not exactly chocolate. More like just these weird... things. Peanut Butter M&Ms... ::drools::

It's weird, I don't crave peanut butter that much any more. I ate it all the time, in any form, when I was on lithium. I think it was really good for the mealy-mouth syndrome or something.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Reese anything... even the sticks. I was doubtful, so I always passed - but then the bf brought some home for me and I had to admit they were really good. Kind of like Coffee Crisp with peanut butter. Mmm. I love Coffee Crisp, wish I could get it here.

Reese stuff is one of the few back-home goodies that are easy to find in the UK, for which I am very thankful.

I found some Toffifee in a vending machine in Zurich airport last weekend during a stopover. I used to eat them all the time back in T.O., but I've never seen them in the UK, so I was pretty excited. They were good, but not as good as I remembered... wonder if they've changed the recipe?

elisabeth k, Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"* White chocolate peanut butter cups"

the white chocolate Kit Kats that came out at the same time were a thousand times more amazing. i wish i'd bought them in bulk so's i could be getting obese on em right now ))):

Adrian (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Toffifee used to be available here, they probably still are in skanky corner shops. Marks' used to do their own version too.

chris (chris), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I am being sick.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

As far as I can tell, crunchy PB cups are unavailable in this country.

antexit (antexit), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps you prefer Pickled Meats, Nick S?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Dipped in peanut butter?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am NEVER clicking that link, Sarah.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, just thought it might go along with your (sick) fish obsession.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

what's basically a ready salted crisp

Pretzels are nothing like this!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Reese's cups size matter: if they're too small, then that pig out feeling I get when I stuff them in my mouth is lost. And I feel empty.

Miggie (Miggie), Thursday, 6 November 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the new inside out peanut butter cups make me excited.

They are off the hook. Anything that skews the chocolate/PB ratio in PB's favor is ok with me. That Reese's bizzaro approximation of peanut butter is a beautiful thing.

adam (adam), Thursday, 6 November 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER CUPS.

candid gamera (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

i made sure my son grabbed those on halloween. "GET SOME FOR DADDY!"

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

I actually rearranged the trick or treat bowl so these were mostly on the bottom so there was a better chance of more of them left over at the end if the night.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

i wish i had done that :(

candid gamera (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

It takes a special sort of hatred for the happiness of children I guess.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

Yay me!

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

haha, i did the same thing! and i promptly shut off the light above my door at 7! besides the fact that my town has rules for halloween, only allowed to trick or treat from 5-7. I never heard of such a thing when i was growing up. I like it though.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

haha i had some obviously-teenagers come by at like 9:30 and ask "Y'A PLUS DES BONBONS?" when i said ya they were like "YES!!" and highfived each other

candid gamera (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

the late comers to my house get Whoppers.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

do you drive them over to burger king or just buy a bunch in advance?

candid gamera (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

my son got a pencil from someone in my neighborhood. WTF is that shit.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

HAHA.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

i mean who likes malted milk balls besides your grandfather?

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

The big rich house with the nice view was handing out ICY CANS OF COCA-COLA, no shit.

http://tinyurl.com/koalalalala (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:16 (fifteen years ago)

just cracking them open and pouring them into the kids' bags

candid gamera (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

i spent all that day making a bolognese sauce and i thought it would be funny to just ladle a scoop out instead of giving out candy

candid gamera (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

I actually rearranged the trick or treat bowl so these were mostly on the bottom so there was a better chance of more of them left over at the end if the night.
yeah that is a good idea. the only stuff we had left at the end of the night was three musketeers. the most boring of all candy bars imo.

One guy was giving out "spooky" erasers. <<-dngi

17th Century Catholic Spain (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

i remember the rich big house when i was growing up, they always gave out full size candy bars.

one year someone also gave out plastic baggies with 5 cents it them. all pennies.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

No trick or treaters came to my door this year :(

One thing for sure, peanut butter m&m's are indeed food of the gods...there's a bizarre inside joke between me & my best friend involving this cute girl who waited tables at the truck stop I used to work at, and my attempt to woo her with a big bag of them.

only! assholes! write on doors! (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:30 (fifteen years ago)

last year we ran out of candy and i was handing out 100 calorie snack packs.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:30 (fifteen years ago)

I like malted milk balls. Not as much as Reese's, but I do like them.

But I am an old man. Practically a grandfather.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

As a kid, we had a guy come to the door with a bag of pretzels.
