STRETCHING mmm classic or mm classic

OR: why is it so fabulously onomatopoeia-worthy? MmmrmrrmmmMMmmmmmm!
Obviously it merits discussion as to what the best stretch-positions are, and when is the best time to stretch, blabla. However..

What makes it so good?! I just did it and o.h. m.y.! I want scientific facts! Anyone?

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't know, but I just had a particularly satisfying stretch. mmmmmmmmm

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr > mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm classic.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Is stretching a more common feel-good activity in cats and people who like cats? Cats always seem to have the best stretches because they are so flexible. I'm jealous.

(THough I wish I were a dog cause a good shake looks like a lot of fun.)

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I was about to add, in fact.. stretching must be good cause my cat does it ALL THE TIME and oh he's a fussy rascal

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I like stretching in the same way I like a really good yawn or a really good sneeze. Which means quite a lot.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really like yawning. I mean, I always try to stiffle them because I'm afraid of my boredom showing on the surface. Also, if you're yawning a lot, it means that you're not getting enough air!

Then I had this singing teacher when I was a teenager, who told me how bad it was for your voice to stiffle yawns, and that you should feel free to yawn away and open up your breathing passages (and cover your mouth or even your nose if you fear it looks stupid).

But I still don't like doing it.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

stretching = better than yawning x 1000000000000000000000

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

But a yawn is just like a stretch! Of the mouth!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

no no no!
WHOLE BODY needed
do you say "mmm" while you yawn? I THINK NOT!
stretching can be sort of sexy hoh yeah.
yawning just creates ugly wrinkly faces, hrgh

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Nobody needs to watch me yawn, so I don't worry about what I look like. When I have a really good stretch I go EEEEYYYYYAAAAAWWWWW and then I feel awake and springy (face included). Sneezing is not attractive either, but it feels goooood.

OK, maybe I am a freak.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I love yawning & sneezing! I guess i just enjoy my body! oo-er!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

butbut! Nobody knows all the science shenanigans?
Also why is it mainly girls on this thread? Do boys not stretch? Do they have some bizarre, pleasurable way of twisting their spine that they're not letting us know about?
bouh.

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I stretch like hell, I often forget I'm not at home and kind of growl if it's a particularly necessary stretch, and then people are scared.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

a growl!! you had to make it manly eh?

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I guess so, maybe a groan would suit also.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

boys are always stretching! they think it makes them sexier, they use it to show off their pecs or lats or whatever. i have a friend who is annoyed by this, but i don't mind.

minna (minna), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

b..BUT IT IS sort of sexy.
i can't help it.
i am woman, hear me rrrowwwrr

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

*ducks*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm, stretching women are luuuuuvly.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The problem is, that HSA stretching usually means that it's about 30 seconds away from him complaining about his long-term back pain, and a request that I give him a massage.

(You know, I don't mind giving him an occasional massage as a sexy treat, but he really should go to the doctor over this.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

haha yeah right show off my pecs

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

cor

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

That jaw-lock effect you get when you yawn sometimes- dud. Especially when it happens in Boots, and you have to walk around like you've been shocked to some great extent for three minutes.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, my stupid jaw gets locked up too. Hate it.

I think I'll stand up now and do some stretches at my desk...awwww yes, lots of back cracking and mmm...

When I yawn, I like to try to say things or sing something because it always sounds really funny.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ew! Ew! Cracking joints! Ugh! HSA does this all the time and it bugs me! In fact, he often makes me pull his fingers (and sometimes his toes) in order to get them to crack more.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

B-but Kate, you should try it! It feels good! Everyone's doing it!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

If everyone jumped off the Empire State Building, I would not do it!

My bones just don't crack. I think I'd prefer to keep it that way, as it's addictive.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

WHERE IS MY SCIENCE?!?!

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

dang!

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, if you're yawning a lot, it means that you're not getting enough air!

FALSE.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 6 November 2003 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

s..sc..?!

penelope (penelope), Thursday, 6 November 2003 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing beats a good bit of pandiculation.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 7 November 2003 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

the most classic thing in the whole wide world is to have a big glass of wine and a big spleef and then stretch and dance and stretch while blasting the essential pet shop boys in the living room.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 7 November 2003 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)
