Are you part of the media elite?

Last night on C4 news, maverick right-wing newspaper man, noted quite accurately that there was a real inequality of access to information in the UK: ppl like him and Jon Snow knew who was 'at the centre of palace revelations' etc but most ppl don't.

Now many ppl on ILX seem to have at least some contact with print media -- more than yr average newspaper reader -- and probably in general know things like the identity of John Leslie or Michael Fawcett etc before most people.

But do you feel a part of some special elite?

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i realized the other day that i'm approx. three steps away from a VH1 talking head and that number is about to close ranks soon. it made me sad.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not even part of the ilx elite, let alone the media elite. I am forever out of the loop.

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually just finished taping my appearance as a talking head on a VH1 special about Strongo Hulkington!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I am undisputed master in a club of one. (Include other people and it becomes a problem.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Thing is, generally, I don't actually *care* about these sorts of things. I suppose I usually know who to ask who could find out, should I want to. But I don't think that makes me part of any kind of elite. I just know a lot of meedja whores, that's all.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I am part of the media elite, and we all know that Prince Phi11ip buggered a stable boy. In fact, it's all we talk about in the 'green room'.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe it "went down" in the "green room"

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course as soon as we're out in front of the cameras 'Queen Mum's the word'.

So I'll thank you to keep this under your hat.

Stella Rimmington is planning a 'car accident' and irreversible brain damage for me, must rush.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i got paid to write a coupla reviews for AMG. does that count?

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

no.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I know that *rldn* Bl**m is gay and shagging a German, do I get any points for that?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Anybody can read the Popbitch message board innit

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

is "write a coupla reviews for AMG" media elite shorthand for cover up the fact that the moon-landing was a hoax, Ronald Reagan is actually still president (and dyes his hair), and the internet was invented by the Keebler elves?
cuz then it does count.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

j0e OTM, actually. (THough really, I'd rather not.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

This is probably how it works: Kate 'just happens to kno' a few meeja whores -- it doesn't feel very elitey. But.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

jess, for what it's worth, i wouldn't put you on tv...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

nor would i do it again

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

it's awful and i wouldn't wish that on anyone

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, i wouldn't do it!! it was just one of those "question the worth of what you're doing with your life" moments.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

strongo hulkington: too hot for tv

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it made me think when i was waiting to go on on a cable show over here to discuss filesharing (which i don't even really do as i have a dial-up connection). one of the presenters was only really there for one reason: she had the most unfeasible breasts i have ever seen. this was kinda helping me not get too depressed until i heard the floor manager giving the the instruction: "great clevage on camera three, don't move, hold that shot." i nearly cried.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Stories of a grown man crying at boobies are always the best.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haha! fuck you, and your unfeasible breasts!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to be on TV all the time, under my real name...Rick Rockwell!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

BUT IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT!!!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

unfeasible breasts
please explain

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

they were massive and i would bet my last pound on the fact that they were not entirely natural either

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

but the whole episode made me realise that my opinions counted for nothing and they only wanted me for my body. therefore don't do it, jess

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope Teeny meant to make an Ani DiFranco joke there, otherwise I'm laughing for no reason. Other than the whole "unfeasible breasteses" fiasco.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

they would only want me for my hypnotic, tony robbins-esque teeth anyway

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the "media"?

39 Steps + 40 Winks (39 Steps + 40 Winks), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

It's this thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that was an ani joke, although I'm a bit ashamed that I know Ani lyrics. I only did it for the nookie.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh! Must we!

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not a part of the media elite.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the word "part" implies there are others in the know besides myself: there are not

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

My agent works at the Guardian, does that make me part of the media elite?

Jonathan Z., Thursday, 6 November 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I know people who aren't far from this terrain, but they never tell me anything.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on the types of questions that you ask, Skidders.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

For the second time today:

Chuck Tatum to thread!

He gets all the gossip. From pretty reliable sources.
