Halloween Costumes?

Are you going to wear one, if so what are you going to wear? Do you hate it?

Me, I'm going as the Mad Doctor or maybe Gummo(jogging shorts, flip flops and bunny ears) but I haven't decided yet.

Hank, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I must veto the Gummo. jogging shorts + flip flops = too many people mistaking you for white trash. which of course = people mistaking me for going out with white trash.

Samantha, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gonna dress up as Billy Corgan.

jel, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel, don't you have a mess of curly hair? Another problem. . . people will just think you're Uncle Fester.

Samantha, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll have to get myself a swimming cap! :)

Plus I will a wear a Zero t-shirt.

jel, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Spacewhore. Made up of various dress code violating garments I have not worn to school.

Maria, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At first I thought maria said "spicewhore" to which I was going to say that was everyone's favourite *last* year's costume, but alas...

Kim, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I can make my own cenobite costume, I'll wear it on Halloween and then probably never take it off. Because it'll be sewn into my skin.

DG, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Posh.

dinosaur, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my God! It's nearly halloween and I haven't made any plans. there's only one solution - my vampire-hunting reverend costume, made out of a tatty bit of white cardboard, a shirt, as much garlic as I can buy for £1.43 and two bits of wood from the skip in the road. And string.

It's so realistic!

Al, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was going to go as the cover to darkthrone's transilvanian hunger album; but then i realized i didn't have a candelabra or a way to project the title in old english across my torso. so i'm just going to wear the black and white makeup, buy a $2 kid's cape and look as goofy as possible.

your null fame, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I may go as Wolverine from the X-Men, just to please everyone who says I look like a skinny version of him (sigh). Though my boss just said I look like Edward Scissorhands. Great.

Paul Strange, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Frida Kahlo.

Thread mutation: what have you gone as in years past?

I stopped trick or treat when I was 12. Up until then, I was: a little witch for 3 years, Nellie Oleson from Little House, Lawrence of Arabia, Nadia Comaneci (easy: pigtail, leotard, tracksuit bottoms, no tits), a hooker, Wonder Woman, and Elvira the ghost from Blithe Spirit.

suzy, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Typically poor planning. I reckon I've got ten days before Halloween parties are held. Is it possible to go as Virgil Hilts (McQueen) from The Great Escape if I don't even faintly resemble Steve McQueen(not short and scrawny, have dark brown hair and not sandy blond and green eyes not blue, own a minivan and not a motorcycle, and have a crap east coast accent instead of a smooth California one?)-- would it suffice just to have a BASEBALL? What are the essential marks of Hilts/McQueen? Besides being dead I guess.

McQ, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to go as a Groke.

Tom, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Plague doctor for me.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going as Salvador Dali.

james, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Past costumes: superman, spiderman, pirate, cowboy, Hobocop (by far the worst costume of all-time in history). This year's costume: vampire (keep your brother away from me, Tom) or Justin Timberlake. Or I might go as a Rycckuu, but these days that's how I dress most of the time anyway so I'm not sure what's the point.

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i am going as jackson pollock , we are having a theme party, dress as art/artist . david is going as andy

anthony, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony, will you be drunk and bald with bits of paint splattered all over you?

Sam-at-home, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know what to go as! I want to look as whore-ish as possible.

Ally, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going as Bjerk. I'm taking an angel costume and then cutting up a swan beanie baby. I'm feeling guilty about the beanie baby though, so I don't know if I'll go through with it. I have no good ideas this year.

Nicole, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Ally, why don't you go as Christina Aguilera? Lots of whorishness possibilities there.

RickyT, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The makeup expenses would be astronomical though!

Nicole, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Al's costume sounds best. I think it's the STRING that makes it. More string. I might go as a MUMMY but really I want a big pointy wizards hat.

NB - it's possible I may attempt to cast SPELLS this halloween... yeahyeahyeahcoolyeahhurhurect.

Sarah, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My head isn't big enough to be Christina Aguilera :(

Ally, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I gots a Halloween party tonight, and I need an extremely cheap costume (preferably one that can be constructed using home-found materials) on the double! Help ILE!

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last year I just didnt shave for a few days and wore my suede coat and some flares going to parties as a hippy.

It was so handy.

This year I am more well groomed and stylish. Not too much more, admittedly.

Ronan, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mitch...go as a robot dinosaur...you need tin foil, and some cardboard painted green.

james, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Otis is lying, he's going as my coworker, Dean. I'm going as a schoolgirl and Ramon is going as a fop.

Ally, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I will go as yellow fever, or as the bogey monster. If I can be bothered leavng ILE for long enough

Menelaus Darcy, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I still don't understand your costume ideas, Ally. Dressing as Dean = ridiculously irrelevant (alt. version, Matt Dillon in Something About Mary = initially appealing, but way too stupid upon further reflection). Ramon going as a fop = non-costume - Ramon is a fop.

Otis Wheeler, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The world's brokest fop. Anyhow, can you just trust me on this costume? It'll be fantastic, and it's so much better than the whole Ricky Martin / Justin Timberlake thing you had originally talked about. I mean, you dressed up as Ricky Martin = just a dude in shiny pants, cos you don't look anything like Ricky Martin, so everyone will be going to you all night, "Are you dressed up?" and we don't want that. You dressed up as a Dean-dude, on the other hand, will clearly be a costume, and possibly the best costume of all time, besides my slutty schoolgirl costume that will overpower all. Maybe that guy who smelled me at the last Hampshire party will be there, I think he'll like it. What is wrong with these people, smelling strangers and telling you to dress like Ricky Martin and people going as you for Halloween?

Ally, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My mom wanted us to all dress as one of the following, btw:

1. Cowboys

2. Scottish people (me = Madonna, I didn't like this at all)

3. Batman, Robin and Catwoman (couldn't find a Robin costume at Ricky's, I'm sure Otis is very disappointed)

4. Each other, which didn't make any sense, which one of you boys was going to go as me?

5. Josie and the Pussycats (I liked this best but figured you two wouldn't want to)

Ally, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Vampire or Witch? Vampire good because of fake blood. Witch good because of spell casting ability. (nb. buy new spell book. one without 'cat blessings') Vampire bad because of fang trouble. They can chafe. Witch bad because broomsticks give you piles.

alix, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(What I really wanna know is how Tom's gonna manage to freeze solid each patch of ground he walks over)

Kim, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i only dress up for hoelloween.

ethan, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks, Ludacris.

Ally, Tuesday, 23 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet your costume will inspire some whore-or, turning tricks for treats down in Ho-boken where the ho's are soft spoken -- they be like candy? I want meat. Whore-mel! Where's the beef?

Sterling Clover, Tuesday, 23 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Now that the board is back up, I would just like to call attention to how brilliant my previous post was.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 25 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You're a genius.

Ally, Thursday, 25 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or a hoe-ly fool?

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 25 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I meant fool I would've said fool.

I am going as a schoolgirl doesn't anyone have anything to say about this? Maybe I should go as Ludacris instead, then people would pay attention to me.

PAY ATTENTION TO ME. NOW.

Okay, I'm having a really bad day, this is pathetic.

Ally, Thursday, 25 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no it isnt ally , talking the day off for no dicsernable reason is pathetic

anthony, Thursday, 25 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Alien Chicken Supreme.... as usual.

Brian MacDonald, Thursday, 25 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Any couples ideas? The lady and I were aiming for John and Kate about 6 months ago but that shit will be overblown this year. I'm just aiming for funny, generally, which is the reason I'm posting here.

My friend John once went as that dude from that one Scorpions album cover:

Cute, VP! Tera, what a pity all your good beatnik supplies are so far! I think it will turn out well anyway.

I took all my hair out of curlers and woah, orange poodle fro! Next year we may need to be Annie & Daddy Warbucks.. http://instagr.am/p/RTd1wNjbDb/

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 28 October 2012 00:22 (twelve years ago)

u could always just straighten the top layer and smooth it over the 'fro for an everyday look, lol

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 28 October 2012 00:28 (twelve years ago)

Went as Gangnam Psy last weekend. Black straight collar shirt with an old tux and an untied white bow tie safety pinned to the inside back collar. The sunglasses (Target had a close match for $12) were the only expense. Had the instrumental version playing from a tiny speaker for a while.

i was 3/4ths of the way through shaving my beard to be fdr (cigarette holder + glasses + crutches cuz goodwill's wheelchairs were too expensive + upturned grin) but i stopped at trotsky for fun and i couldn't let go of it so that's what i'm being tonight. i have a paperback of the communist manifesto in my breast pocket for recognition emergencies. plus i don't have to worry about how i should have gotten a haircut.

finefinemusic you have transcended the real.

VP: Love Kitchen Princess, must post pic!
finefinemusic, I LOVE it! Great hair!!!!!!!!!
FDR stopping at Trotsky-<3 excellent likeness!

So we did a test run on our family costume...first of all we noticed that we weren't really in costume. Except for August, who totally was. My hair was in costume but otherwise I was wearing an actual outfit as was J. He was dressed like he does on weekend in the fall/winter. I know what not to do {loose the belt}.

When we arrived at the function, they were finishing up the costume contest, UGHHHHHHH! They had a couples category. UGHHHHHHHHH. The prizes were TROPHIES and candy!!!!! I was so jealous, but I did win a cake at the cake walk, YESSSSSS!!!!!!! I always win at cake walk!

All and all I know what to do now for the big day. Test runs are good.

I wonder why, sir. Oh I do.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 October 2012 04:49 (twelve years ago)

Broke and lazy, so I decided to go as the scariest thing I can think of. Printed out a bunch of forms, pinned them onto my school shirt and went as my STUDENT LOANS.

Theodora Celery, Sunday, 28 October 2012 05:06 (twelve years ago)

Ideally, if I had enough time and a trumpet, I would have wanted to be Gelsomina from La Strada.

Theodora Celery, Sunday, 28 October 2012 05:09 (twelve years ago)

I loved your costume and your costume idea!

*tera, Sunday, 28 October 2012 05:18 (twelve years ago)

omg my housemate did that exact thing! it is indeed the scariest thing. i was helping tape them on him and i started laughing at how huge they were. mine too of course.

difficult listening hour, Sunday, 28 October 2012 07:06 (twelve years ago)

I've come bearing a hangover (too much alcohol in Vitameatavegamin) and some pictures! I went to a party hosted by a John & Yoko, saw Bill & Ted, Marilyn Manson, and a few others. DLH, bravo to your costume, love that! Did you ever see the movie with Jay Baruchel?

I was both amazed and depressed by the Lichtenstein girls (there were two) because I tried that last year but the makeup was too frustrating. They got it done professionally with airbrush makeup. I met this girl at the Halloween party last year for the first time - she was dressed as the milk carton from Blur's Coffee & TV video.

*tera, Sunday, 28 October 2012 17:32 (twelve years ago)

Thanks, dudes! I'm happy I didn't have to spend much. Purchased curlers & napkins (for the lapels - stuck it on with fabric tape). I love Halloween parties!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 28 October 2012 19:31 (twelve years ago)

yeah ffm that is some transformation shit. good job.

i haven't seen that movie but i wanted to both for the obvious reason (trotsky) and because it looked genuinely weird. anyway i fell asleep cuddling rosie the riveter. sort of wish there were a picture of that just for history's sake.

two years pass...

it's halloween time again
i was wondering if it is mildly or severely offensive to dress up as a sacred eternal flame for halloween. there has been no school halloween dance party that rivaled that one btw, it was the most out there i have ever seen the security guard.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 15:13 (nine years ago)

Only if you use real fire.

pplains, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 16:06 (nine years ago)

the fire is made of sequins
i just don't want to err on the side of sexy Pol Pot

La Lechera, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 16:08 (nine years ago)

Sexy eternal flame?

pplains, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 16:09 (nine years ago)

Maybe if instead of sequins, you used bangles.

pplains, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 16:09 (nine years ago)

the top is from the thrift and it's way too big, not sexy at all but very shiny/sequined
it's what i've got for now til someone convinces me that it's totally offensive

La Lechera, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 16:15 (nine years ago)
