The arrogance of saying "This is the thread where WE"

I enjoy looking at this site and seeing what people have to say and, on occasion, I even post a few of my own thoughts. However, threads that start "this is the thread where we...." are really starting to get on my tits. it just seems so arrogant to presume that everyone will want to get down to discussing the semi-amusing thought that has been mulling around in the poster's head all day. I imagine him (And it's usually a man) leaning back in his chair with a shit eating Tom Cruise grin and thinking how clever he is, and how everyone will want to talk about his post and his clever thoughts. This is the thread where we..... like we are obliged to contribute or something. Why not try saying somthing like "What do you think? or what are your ideas on this?

Well, you will notice on the Dr. NJS thread, I DIDN'T put "this is the thread where we" - I put "This is the thread where KATE" or some such thing cause I knew no one else would be interested in discussing him.

Upper New York State. BWAH HAH HAH HAH!

with a shit eating Tom Cruise grin

I'm always guilty of this (although not of creating threads with "WE"). I'll post something that is the cleverest thing that's every been said, (or at least posted, since I don't move my lips when I type), and get the Tom Cruise grin, and then look in horror as no one responds to what I (alone, apparently) felt was a truly bon, bon mot. The thread sinks lower and lower on the list and finally drops off. I guess people just don't love Sonny & Cher as much as I do.

So, don't worry too much about the smug Tom Cruise smiles. They quickly turn into Poltergeist-like wax animatronic heads melting in streaming goo until there's just a grinning skull of disappointment left.

And another thing. Your comment becomes irrelevant when one of the offending threads gets 300 hits in two hours. Vox populi.

There are certain threads that specific ilxors contribute to all of the time, so it is not always intentional arrogance.

Jenny, I think the important semantic difference between what you read and what is intended is that the "we" refers, albeit pre-emptively, to the ILX subgroup that *chooses* to post on the thread. Certainly that seems a very reasonable reading to me, and I'd rather take it like that than the way you see it. There's enough negativity floating about these boards already :)
