Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

the snowball fight looks mildly amusing

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

haters of the ferrell fun!

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

This movie, by all rights, should be terrible. But the preview made me laugh like a maniac. I will probably go see it.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I am oddly looking forawrd to it.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this the Chevvy Chase we always wanted?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"Looks like a Christmas tree, doesn't it??"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"It gets crazy on the road, and awful lonely. That's why I love pornography. This next song is all about my love of hardcore, barely legal pornography. Gary knows what I'm talking about. Well, my bizarre, insatiable, and downright dangerous sexual habits led me to write this song. [intro to "Cracklin' Rosie"] Oh, Cracklin' Rose, get on board. We're gonna ride 'til there ain't no more to go. We're takin' it slow. Let's all do the best we can. And I can turn invincible if I really try-y hard!"

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Shut up, Nick. You know you're crazy excited to see it and see it we will!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry, I was just trying to please Ronan.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i like christmas movies.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. They're happy.

Did you ever see that Adam Sandler cartoon movie - 8 crazy nights or something?? I never did. Thought it looked horrible.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i have it in my queue on Netflix, just curious to see it. But there is a "long wait" for it. Figures.

The best Christmas movie(s):
Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Story
Scrooged

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope those are in order. Christmas Vacation is the best movie EVER.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Some review of Elf that I read -- I think in Slate -- said that the movie was oddly good-natured and sweet, which was refreshing except that Ferrell never really breaks out and goes crazy.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

B.o.b. N.e.w.h.a.r.t. is in this! (it's a proverbial good thing)

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 7 November 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Fatty Favreau directed it too. I like him.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

You're Unbelievable!

no wait, ELF

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 7 November 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Its actually gotten decent reviews from what I've read today. Good.

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going for the shot of him sitting in a tiny elf-sized school desk in a classroom where he towers over the other tiny elves, anything else is a bonus

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 7 November 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Christmas Vacation is the best movie EVER.

I CHALLENGE. In fact I think I will start a separate thread.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 November 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

do it

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Done.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 November 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I never really got into christmas movies, then again, I never really got into christmas

TOMBOT, Friday, 7 November 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Grinchbot

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Friday, 7 November 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw this movie last week. it's really really funny. a comic tour-de-force almost from will ferrell.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

you've got to be fucking kidding me.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 7 November 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

no

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

just the commercials for this movie give me the heebie-jeebies.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I repeat: "Looks like a Christmas tree, doesn't it?"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

why? (xp)

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

it just looks completely cringe-worthy horrid. Granted all holiday films look this way to me. And anything starring Will Farrell.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

well if you don't like will ferrell I don't think I'll be able to convince you, sadly!

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it looks better from across the ocean, "those silly Americans"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 8 November 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't wait to see this film!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 8 November 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Zooey was sweet.

S. Mikkleson, Sunday, 9 November 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
BEST.FILM.EVER

Seriously!

Man! I have to go and see it again.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Really rather good.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 November 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i am so psyched for this film. the trailer has me anticipating like there's no tomorrow. being a provincial i have to wait for friday, so my 'ten best' for '03 is still wide open.

enrique (Enrique), Monday, 24 November 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Absolute lack of cynicism married with humour which has quite a dark and sly side makes for winning Christmas sensation. The Narwhale!

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 November 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope theaters will play this on the same bill as "bad santa."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 24 November 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i liked it a lot.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Monday, 24 November 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
I finally saw this. It was funny. Zooey Deschanel is a beautiful, fascinating woman.

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 26 November 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i kinda almost met her

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 November 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw it last night, it wasnt very funny.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Friday, 26 November 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I disagree.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 27 November 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
It wasn't very funny -- I think I find self-importance (cf. Ferrell in Anchorman) funnier than doltishness (cf. lots of Adam Sandler, Ralph Wiggum, even Steve Carell in Anchorman sometimes) but I still liked it. Of course, Zooey was in it, so that's sort of a given.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 06:00 (twenty-one years ago)

oh come on!

I like whispering too!

Miles Finch, Monday, 31 January 2005 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, and now I know where you got your ILX handle, dude!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

And actually, I don't know: maybe watching movies by myself on a tiny computer screen makes me a terrible judge as to whether things are funny or not. It was a very sweet, amusing film. Did I laugh? Maybe once.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

that's probably not the best setup for hilarity!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I know :(

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Did I pause the screen during close-ups of Zooey Deschanel? Yes, I did.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I found Elf to be incredibly hilarious, but then again, I was very stoned when I saw it.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that would help. :)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you search for an mp3 of her singing "Baby it's Cold Outside?" too?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I already downloaded that from Fluxblog like a year ago!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

When the DVD goes down to £5.99, I'll buy it.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 31 January 2005 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

How long was Zooey Daschenel going to go on being in movies without letting us hear her fucking singing voice? I mean, um, WOW.

Come on, this movie was SO FUCKING FUNNY. I LIKE SMILING, IT'S THE BEST!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 31 January 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"If you're really Santa, what song did I sing to you on your birthday?"

"Um, 'Happy Birthday'?"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 31 January 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You stink. You smell like beef and cheese! You don't smell like Santa!

luna's home sick, Monday, 31 January 2005 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You sit on a throne of lies!

Miles Finch, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 December 2008 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

when he dives over james caan's desk and answers the phone all "buddy the elf, what's your favorite color?" it's like five minutes straight of laughter, every time.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 1 December 2008 03:02 (seventeen years ago)

yeah this movie is one of my favorites, and this is coming from someone who couldn't even sit through anchorman.

miss precious perfect (musically), Monday, 1 December 2008 03:13 (seventeen years ago)
