It used to be Backhouse, my great-grandfather changed it when he moved from the UK to the US. I have no idea why.

My stepfamily's name, but we don't know what the original is. And the family are supposed to be the only ones with the name, and yet, thanks to the internet, we have come across people witht he same name who aren't family.

My great-grandmother was a Hallock, and there have been Hallocks on Long Island forever, but we can't find any in England. We think it was maybe Holyoke? We also have no proof of the existance of our original ancestor.

Yes. I am of the German Schroeder heritage. Don't know, I could possibly link up w/ the chancellor somewhere down the line. My family was never big on geneology. My surname is spelled Schrader. Coincidentally, I have a good friend (unrelated) whose last name is even more anglicized : Shrader.
