Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 8 November 2003 07:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight for the first time I made a baked ziti. Grilled chicken, garlic, shallots, onions, flat leaf parsley, chopped tomatos, etc. - all layered with fresh mozz. and fresh basil leaves.

Out of the oven:

And onto the plate:

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 8 November 2003 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ridiculously delicious looking, that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 November 2003 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i made my own baked ziti last night (aww, how FUCKING TWEE), but i don't have a picture of it and i've already eaten like a third of it (mmmmm). chris' looks great; next time i'm going to need to investigate this shallots madness.

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 8 November 2003 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck the ziti; what kind of wine is it?!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 8 November 2003 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

pasta guide

I love the translations of the pasta types! Sadly I cannot find cyrillic alphabet soup anywhere.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 8 November 2003 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That does look like the greatest fucking meal ever.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 8 November 2003 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Baking ziti makes you twee? This has all gone too far.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 9 November 2003 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

that i sone dirty stove. lick it

Mike Hanle y (mike), Sunday, 9 November 2003 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck the ziti; what kind of wine is it?!

Rosemount's cabernet. Only $4.99 at Trader Joes and a pretty good deal at that price. I used some of the wine in the ziti sauce.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 9 November 2003 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's a slice of the Elsässer Flammkuchen (Alsatian tart) I cooked tonight :

http://www.geocities.com/wintermute_v031/flammkuchen.txt

^... onions, bacon, nutmeg, sour cream, curd cheese, pizza dough.

(coming soon : "fucking yr scanner up by putting food on top - C/D")

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yummmmmm

(answer to q: classic, of course!)

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

You put that slice right on the scanner? Classic!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 November 2003 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

That looks fabulous! (and classic of course to scanning food)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm cooking linguine!

Vic (Vic), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I made this chocolate nut torte. It was tasty but very sweet. I will make it again sometime.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It's soup day at Casa Drone, and I've been craving pumpkin soup something fierce. So here it is...

http://www.quartzcity.net/~chris/blogpicts/pumpkinsoup1.jpg

Leeks, parsnips, and apples went into it along with the pumpkin. Topped off with thin slices of leeks and pears.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris, the next LA FAP should be a dinner party at your place!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha... there's no room! Maybe three people can fit but that's about it.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

that's assuming that one person is on the balcony.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ok then, bring your crock pots and spatulas to mine!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i made pumpkin soup as well -- i added squash, pineapple, pears, ginger, and a little curry. no pictures, but clearly ckb is the master of the food-porn game. i defer.

atomic horseradish (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha... there's no room! Maybe three people can fit but that's about it.

Elvis T. speaks truth. It's a perfectly cozy place but ain't no way a party can happen there!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, you and I need to just bust in one day and say "make us ziti... NOW"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This is not a bad idea.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

is that an office of homeland security mug?

gorgeous soup by the way

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a CIA mug isn't it? No wait, NSA...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a NSA mug. Direct from their gift shop I might add

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm currently eating extra sharp cheese on top of whole wheat crackers. The recipe?

1: Cut the cheese.
2: Fan away the fumes, then slice off a few chunks of cheese.
3: Put chunks of cheese on top of crackers.
4: Enjoy.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I had some of that earlier (gouda and water crackers, plus wine and apples, num).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

progress report on the jbr pumpkin soup leftover situation:

i turned it into a cream soup. and added more curry. and topped it off with slices of mcintosh apple.

i'm very very happy.

smuggo gloatington (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 November 2003 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Tonight's cross-country team up cooking was onion soup. My gruyere was a little on the oily side, but the end product was some serious weapons-grade onion soup. Not too complex but what tastes are there give my tastebuds a good pummeling.

http://www.quartzcity.net/~chris/blogpicts/onion_soup.jpg

This soup is the thick-necked Russian mobster of onion soup.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 11 January 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine (picture TK) was the swarthy Spanish male prostitute of onion soup.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 11 January 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's make lots of money.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 January 2004 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I made a whole fucking chicken this week -- perfect on the first try. I then turned the scraps into stock like a good boy, and the stock then into chicken 'n' dumplings.

Bring it.

ModJ (ModJ), Sunday, 11 January 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight I cooked lamb & artichoke stew for my family & friends. I served with with rosemary/garlic roasted potatoes. I also made quesadillas for the veggie lovers.

Ian Johnson (orion), Sunday, 11 January 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

goddamn this is a sexy thread.

i had instant noodles tonight. i'm not proud, but anything longer than two minutes in the kitchen in this heat and i woulda melted like so much delicous, nutritious gruyere...

petra jane (petra jane), Sunday, 11 January 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i have roasted a chicken tonite, w/ shallots, garlic, new potatoes, parsnips, and haricots; fresh sage, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, olive oil. very simple. smells good. tortures passerby.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 11 January 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Pictures please!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 11 January 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

cannot take picturezzz when food has been eaten!!!

i'll take a picture of tonight's dinner. though it will probably not be very sexxxy.

Ian Johnson (orion), Sunday, 11 January 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

These aren't very good pictures, but that's what you get when you shoot low-light photos with a shitty disposable camera:

america's first municipal lunatic asylum (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry, but none of the food in these pictures looks the slightest bit appetizing except for that pumpkin soup which looked like a winner, until I read what was in it.

may pang (maypang), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Today is scratch macaroni and cheese day in the Casa Drone kitchen. I'm quite happy with the results:

http://www.quartzcity.net/~chris/blogpicts/mac-cheese1.jpg
http://www.quartzcity.net/~chris/blogpicts/mac-cheese2.jpg

I can't wait to see Jody's results

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 19 January 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Jody, that turkey looks fucking incredible.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks!

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
Here's a picture of the stuff I coked for the kids' supper this evening : pan-fried tuna steak, with stir-fried noodles and sesame seeds served with a mango and sweetcorn salsa with lime juice and chopped coriander :

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/Paronomasiac/b2445070.jpg

And since it's Pancake Day, they insisted I made some pancakes for pudding - served with sliced strawberries, chocolate sauce, and a scoop of home-made vanilla ice-cream.

(yes, it does look a bit of a dog's dinner, doesn't it?!)

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

JTS (JTS), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

We made shrimp po' boys after getting back from New Orleans the other night. I was pretty pleased.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you, I need that food please.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

This sounds silly, but part of the enjoyment I get from this thread is looking at people's plates. Not the food, the actual plate.

I'm a dork.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

oh, that looks so great, jordan! i hope this thread sticks around for awhile.

ai lien (kold_krush), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

DON'T LOOK AT OUR PLATES LUNA.

Well, I don't mind them actually, but I think those are the ones my fiancee thinks are ugly.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder if there will be another season of hells kitchen

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

I bought my parents some plates with that design, Jordan :(

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

luna I'm doing the same thing. I love Chris's little pot/plate way upthread with the baked ziti.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)
